- Announcement for Weekly Streams - 14 February 2021
Good {daytime} to you fellow reader! After the initial positive feedback and a lot more improvements on Graphite since the first presentation of it in our recent video, we've reached a point where Graphite has become usable! Incredible I know, what an achievement :P That being said, to showcase our progress in something that non-programmers can appreciate a little more we will be streaming the development of small games on Twitch once a week on Sunday 4PM GMT. With "small games" we mean stuff like Flappy Bird, 2048, Tetris, Minesweeper, Chess, etc. If that sounds interesting to you, or you just want to drop by and chat with the devs a little, feel free to join us on Twitch! Folling - Dev and Community Manager
- Graphite Announmcent + 2 Year Anniversary - 20 January 2021
Hello everyone! Merry Happy New Easter to you all! Let's hope this year doesn't suck as much as the last one did, aye? Ikarus is becoming two years old today. Exactly 24 months ago, on the 19th of January 2019, we started development on the first version of Ikarus. To celebrate that we've created a video that showcases the history of Ikarus, as well as our general intentions with it. More importantly and interesting to most of you however, we also showcase what we've worked on these past few months, and why progress had stagnated so much. I won't give away what it is here - go and watch the video! If you don't care about all the personal details around, you can simply skip to it using the timestamps in the description. It's the first time we ever edited a video, and we kind of miscalculated just how much time it would take, so only about 50% of the video are properly edited, but it's st…
- Streaming Releases of v2.2 previews - 24 August 2020
Hey all - bet you forgot we existed! But would you believe it, we actually still work on this. In fact we've worked so hard on this that we've gone full circle and have now managed to get Ikarus to a new stage, that is the same stage as before, just with new things. Lovely! However, we need your help, for we are not ready yet to release the new version to the public. There's still a lot missing. We've rewritten large parts of the codebase. And when I mean large I mean all of it. Did I mention that we're very time efficient? Given that everything is so new it has to be handled with care and needs to be thoroughly tested. Here's where you come into play. For the next few weeks we'll be releasing very regular updates on the preview branch on Steam. You can use that version and then give us feedback on it, report bugs, give us insights, etc. And then there'll be the final 2.2 release, for a…
- Public Trello Board Announcement - 1 April 2020
Hello fellow quarantees! I feel like we haven't been transparent enough with our development process - until now we only really posted regularly in the Discord server to showcase our progress. However, not everyone uses Discord and that's fine! In addition to that we only really ever spoke about the current situation, never about what is planned apart from that one shoddy roadmap I had created a while back. To battle these issues, we have created a public Trello board. If you're unfamiliar with Trello - it's a platform where you can publicly host a kind of 2-dimensional TODO list. I've added any planned and considered feature I could think and given all of them descriptions. There's still quite a bit of polishing I could do, but this should already be a huge step up! Take Care, and stay tuned for the next update! Folling - Dev and Community Manager
- Semi-Regular Stream Announcement - 29 March 2020
Hey everyone! I hope you're all holding up well during these dire teams. Keep safe, stay home, and wash your hands - you know the drill! Not much has changed for us, we still sit at home and code 6 hours a day - however, now you can accompany us during coding on Twitch! It's a pretty loose schedule for now, and I only announce it on our Discord in a special channel. Feel free to join me with some chill music on our channel. Folling - Dev and Community Manager
- Hotfix 2.1.3 - 18 February 2020
Hey there! This is a small patch which fixes the rather unintuitive reordering of attributes. Everything should be back to normal now! :) Stay tuned, FADED
- Hotfix 2.1.2 - 18 February 2020
Hey there! We've fixed a small issue that caused Ikarus to crash when deleting attribute folders. See you soon! Folling - Dev And Community Manager
- Crucial Hotfix for grevious error - 13 February 2020
I've made one typo in the current release, literally just one word misspelled, and it could permanently damage your project if you start it. Please restart Steam, before launching it the next time. If you have been affected by this issue, which you will know because your project will have 1. crashed 2. failed to start Message me personally on Discord (Folling#9999) or send me an email ([email protected]) and I will fix the project up for you - however, some of the data will be unrecoverable. I made a joke about this happening a few minutes before this issues was reported, I should stop jinxing it. Terribly sorry for the inconvenience, and I pray that no one has lost any significant amount of progress. This also includes a fix, where text from the information tab entered in the previous version wouldn't be rendered in the new one. This is however fully recoverable for any project, in ca…
- Version 2.1 beta release - 13 February 2020
greetings.jpg Here we go again, this time with a release that drastically improves the text-editor functionality, and the overall look by Ikarus by providing icons! Important Note We had a bug in the previous release, where colours would be duplicated with each new launch. This has been fixed, but in the process, all colour-values (just colour ones, everything else is intact) have been reset. I apologise for the inconvenience. For anyone who didn't like the text-based tutorial, we now have a short video (8m56s) version, which you can check out here! The full patch-notes for this release can be found here. A big thanks as always to our patrons who make sure that we can continue working on Ikarus! The next release will be quite technical in nature, and might take some time to be stable, but stay tuned, especially if you're a developer yourself. Join our Discord for more frequent updates,…
- Linux Hotfix - 4 February 2020
We noticed that some people were having issues running Ikarus on Linux. After some investigation we found a small but non-trivial issue that we overlooked in our initial release, which has since been fixed. We've tested Ikarus on various distributions, and it seems to be running better than ever. However: If you still experience any issues on Linux, please let us know in this thread, or ping us on Discord. More content updates are coming within the next few days, so stay tuned! See you around, FADED - DevOps
- Ikarus v2.0 beta (previously 1.5) now live! - 3 February 2020
Bonavis everyone! After the help of our community, and many more hours of testing and refining, the new Ikarus version is finally here! If you were wondering why we jumped from version 1.5 to 2.0: With hindsight we considered the release major enought o warrant incrementing the first number - how exciting! Please make sure to read the notice and take a look at the helpful resources when you first open the app, unless you want to figure things out by yourself or are an experienced user. You can find the full patchnotes for this release here. As with everything else, this release was supported and enabled by our generous patreons, enabling us to continue working on this project. We have a lot of goodies planned for the near future, so stay tuned. Folling - Dev and Community Manager
- Preview branch now live - 23 January 2020
> Hello World! As announced some while back, we're now hosting a preview branch! If you'd like to help us more directly with new releases, be sure to check them out - note though, that this stage of the progress isn't necessarily usable. In fact, for now the preview branch cannot be used for your old data, and is unable to save data as well, it really only exists for us to get some assistance from the community with Quality Assurance! To use this, you need to opt in for the preview branch: right click ikarus in steam -> properties -> betas -> select beta -> preview - Since this is before the full release, some features aren't implemented yet: Fully usable 1. Blueprints 2. Instances 3. Attributes 4. Instance values 5. Folder system 6. Reordering 7. Shortcuts Not implemented 1. Projects and save/load 2. Associative Values for attributes 3. Settings Though it should be noted that this will…
- Version 1.5 beta preview and plans for 2020 - 16 January 2020
Hello everyone, pardon the long wait! We have been quite busy getting things up to speed and improving Ikarus using the feedback we've gotten from you. The next version is not quite done yet, however it's close enough for us to give a showcase of what it will be like. Check the video out here The video is exceptionally long, and you don't have to watch it all, there are timesteps in the description, so you can freely jump to the parts that interesting you. The actual preview is around 16 minutes long. With that being said, it covers the new features for v1.5-beta, previews what we have gotten so far, and goes into some depth on what we have planned for 2020, or rather what the next steps are. Hope you had a great start into 2020, Folling - Dev And Community Manager
- Ikarus v1.4-beta is live now - 22 October 2019
Hello Worldbuilders, Gamemasters, Roleplayers, and Writers, It has been a long time since the last release - but we're finally here. After months of working on Ikarus, we're finally ready to present v1.4 beta to you! There are a lot of changes, but I'll group them together. Let me start out however that most changes aren't new features. In fact there's only three new features really - and some other features aren't implemented yet. This release was a mix of a UI-rewrite and a lot of preparation and conceptual conceiving to prepare us for the next few stages. We're still in early access - please keep that in mind! Patch Notes New Features Any attribute can be a list now Folder system was implemented - and the reordering adjusted Performance improvements all around the board Add descriptions to Blueprints/Attributes/Instances Compatibility with older systems was improved - we now use OGL2…
- Chat with the devs/Q&A going live in a minute - 13 October 2019
We'll be having a stream on twitch, starting in a minute - if you have any questions, or just want to have a chat with other Ikarus users or the developers, feel free to join: https://www.twitch.tv/classicfolling!
- Ikarus Q&A/Chat with the devs scheduled for this Sunday 8PM CEST (GMT+2) - 11 October 2019
Hello everyone! A few of you've participated in our Q&A strawpoll and we've decided to schedule a twitch stream for this sunday! I'll be playing some games on twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/classicfolling (please ignore the very outdated descriptions) while answering any appropriate questions you might have. This is also supposed to be a "chat with the devs" stream, since I'd really like to get to you know you - the users, and get an idea for why you're with us and what you want out of ikarus! Hope to see you there o/ Folling - Dev and Community Manager
- Ikarus Update Preview for version 1.4 Beta - 8 September 2019
Hey everyone! It's been some time since we last informed you about the changes we've made to Ikarus, as well as since the last update. I've already alluded to the fact that we have a huge amount of changes in the works, and we thought it'd be nice to give you an overview of that. For that reason I have recorded a preview of the changes of Ikarus where I rumble about what we currently have, what's still to do, and what is planned for the future, which can be seen on Youtube(16m14s). In addition to that, we have a small straw-poll open, that we would hugely appreciate for you to participate in: https://www.strawpoll.me/18609654 Thank you all for your patience, and I hope you have a fantastic Sunday! Folling - Dev and Community Manager
- Important update for the next version - 25 August 2019
Heya all, a bit of a downer for this one: As we announced last time, Ikarus is going through some huge changes right now, this means that a lot of the things in the code-base will be fundamentally different. We have thusly decided that the next release - whenever it will go live - will be a breaking one. Breaking here means that previous projects won't be supported in the newer version anymore. This was decided through a mix of analysing our playtime statistics, and talking through it for some time. We're very sorry if any of you have some progress that would be worth saving, though we do urge you to get in touch with us, and we will look for a solution on a user-to-user basis. Contact: - Discord (Folling#9999) - E-mail ([email protected]) This will not happen frequently. We have a system in place that allows us to adapt the save files to newer versions though this version has so many f…
- A short update on the development process - 16 August 2019
Hey all! We usually only talk about these things on our Discord, so for those of you which aren't on there, it might seem as if we're being very dead, which is neither the case, nor do we want to leave the impression that that's the case! I have a long post regarding the details on our server, though here's a rundown of why updates have become less frequent: We're currently trying to prepare a lot for the future, this includes, but isn't limited to: Figuring out how to properly store Ikarus' data, both in an efficient/performant and accessible way Setting up for HiDPI, including a better Font Setting up some more OS specific tasks, such as actually displaying our icon Switching our rendering backend to older versions of DirectX/OpenGL to support older computers Implementing Mac support None of these features warrant a release on their own in our opinion, so we will group them all togeth…
- Ikarus v1.3b is released! - 1 August 2019
Welcome to the next release! This is a relatively small release, though it covers some important aspects, and fixes some fairly crucial bugs. Let's go over the list of features/fixes really quick: Patch Notes New Features Ikarus now saves which windows were last open, however they don't store the layout, so if you redragged/resized the windows, they will not stay in those positions Ikarus now features a fully fledged undo/redo system. You can undo any change you've done since you last started the app. Redoing works similar to how it would in applications like photoshop, where you can only redo changes you last undid until you make a manual change. There are some known issues with this, which I'll talk about at the end We've added a read-only table view for instances. This is currently just experimental and we'd appreciate some feedback on it. You can't drag instances off it, or change v…
