- Devblog #13 - Hiring Workers - 3 October 2023
Ahoy Shipwrights! While your crew is rising in numbers, it’s time for us to give you an update regarding the time-saving system we’ve been working on lately. With your friends on board in co-op mode, all the hard work gets easier and things are done faster. That must mean that playing solo is no way to go… right? Arghhhh, ain’t no way! We’re not leaving no one! So, without further ado, welcome to the hiring system. Workers Cabins Next to your docks, you will find a few abandoned and ruined wooden houses. They are there for a reason, not just for mere disfigurement of the landscape. Your repair skills will come in handy as those houses can be renovated. Obviously, this will require not only your hard work but also some materials. Once you repair the cabin, a new feature will unlock. Hiring Workers Once you interact with a renovated cabin, you will be able to hire assistants to help you o…

Helping local business owners and other people will raise your reputation and help you find clients of grand status more easily. A friendly relationship with everyone in the Town will influence the pr…
- Devblog #11 - Expanding the fleet! - 20 January 2023
Ahoy Shipwrights! We have been tinkering away at many aspects of the game, changing and framing them in a larger context. This planning spree has led to expanding the scope of the game and its features. With this expansion comes an additional list of potential ships you will be able to construct in your ever-growing shipyard. Rafts Before you even think about assembling large ships in your shipyard, smaller vessels should be the centre of your attention. They will be key to the beginnings of your adventures. Rafts are small and easy to manoeuvre in shallow and narrow bodies of water. Rafts will be useful in resource gathering and moving around before you build larger and more spacious boats and ships. Moving around swamps and rivers or the island will be much easier when you can hop onto this small vessel and paddle your way to resources. Junks Captains from all over the world will orde…
- Devblog #10 - Your Shipyard’s Economy - 29 July 2022
Ahoy Shipwrights! As serious businessmen, you have to keep in mind your relationship with the local economy. While you will be able to find and gather a huge chunk of the necessary materials, there will be plenty of resources to buy and sell in the nearby town. Your surplus of materials will bring joy to the townsfolk. This relationship of mutual help will speed up your resource gathering and material production. Casting your own iron or processing wood will not be a problem, but there are elements that you can potentially buy from other skilled artisans. While you are a jack of all trades, there are many different fields that townsfolk may be better skilled in. Fabrics and expensive details may be available to purchase in the town. This is also where you can find people selling food and ingredients to prepare meals necessary for your survival. Gathering foods in the wild may not be eno…
- Devblog #9 - Where to explore? - 25 April 2022
Ahoy Shipwrights! We’ve said before that exploration is a huge aspect of the game, as you can find new recipes and materials as you traverse the map. The island is divided into multiple biomes and locations, with different types of foliage, weather, NPCs to talk to or shops to buy materials at. There also are many items, treasures and mysteries all over the place. The island The map itself is 3 kilometres long and 3 kilometres wide with varied elevations, from sea level to tall mountains, with canyons, tunnels, and hills in between. The island is split into two by a river that meanders and creates a large waterfall, which may or may not hide some secrets. The river also creates a canyon There are multiple biomes, which cover vast parts of the island, tall mountains with barely any trees descend down and turn into lush forests and wetlands full of wines moss. Some areas are more mysterio…

- Devblog #8 - Shipwrights Assemble - 18 March 2022
Ahoy Shipwrights! It takes a team of highly skilled workers to build a ship from scratch. Between collecting resources, processing them, and actually putting the planks together, one shipwright may spend more time on one project. To help the more impatient players, we decided to introduce the co-op mode into the game. It will be completely voluntary, so shipwrights who feel strong and independent enough to work on their own can decide to do so. If a shipwright does not want to spend time alone working on a massive project, they can rely on help from friends and strangers alike! Players will be able to join private or public rooms to help each other in every step of the construction process. We want to create a system where people can join and leave during sessions, without fear of the room suddenly closing. Every room will have a capacity of up to 4 players and they all will have access…
- Devblog #7 - What Lies Beneath the Island - 14 January 2022
Ahoy Shipwrights! Sometimes building ships can become a routine. It means that it's time to explore the vast forests of the island. Trees and shrubs hide many secrets, including mysterious caves full of treasures. We started working on a vast system of caves and caverns. Wild and difficult to traverse, they will try to protect secrets hidden within. Exploring them will be yet another source of new crafting recipes and decorative items. You will be able to find lost ships stuck in caves for years, holding secrets to new and more profitable boat parts. Forgotten pirate treasures will be hidden in nooks and crannies of caverns. Protected by the remains of the crew, they wait to be discovered. On the technical side of things, the devs are already looking at systems that will allow us to create vast tunnels without destroying people’s GPUs and CPUs. Strategies similar to the ones used to ren…
- Devblog #6 - Updates & Upgrades - 14 December 2021
Ahoy Shipwrights! The sea is a moody lover, and change could come at any moment. Remember to stay alert at all times or your shipyard may get swept from the face of the earth. Luckily, the changes we bring to you today are much more exciting! Look out for them on the game's Steam Page! New Name As the development progresses, we've noticed that the game is more than a simulator. We want the game's title to better reflect that. This also brings a completely new and more detailed logo, which is more suitable for the adventurous nature of Ship Builder. New Trailer Today we released a new trailer for the game. You will be able to feel the sweat and tears necessary to all aspects of a ship. This trailer will also give you a better idea of how minigames will work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kcBcfJRnf8 New Steam Page Our steam page changes too! - Devblog #5 - The Unsung Heroes of Your CPUs - 17 November 2021
Ahoy Shipwrights! Not all news can be a showcase of pretty landscapes and new tools you can use. The invisible part of the process is equally important. The playability of the game highly depends on its performance after all. We decided to share the steps we take to make sure that our open-world map runs smoothly and the game looks as beautiful as possible without melting the players' computers. The main goals of the project: open world, a huge number of objects the players can interact with and the best possible graphics were the base for the creation of all necessary tools explained below. This was a tricky task but after some thinking, the best solution seemed to be a mixture of simple and more complex systems. A separate test map was created to see how the engine will handle all the assets and textures. We filled it to the brims with buildings, trees, and most importantly huge amoun…
- Devblog #4 - UI & Tool Accessibility - 14 October 2021
Ahoy Shipwrights! Accessing the most important elements of your job requires a properly designed UI. In this devblog, we will show off the design and elements of the screens you will be seeing quite often. Your Inventory. The limited amount of items you can carry on you. The additional slots will open as you progress through the game. You can buy more space with all the cash this player clearly does not have. You can sort through items by categories or just drop them randomly for that extra bit of chaos. Tool Wheel. The quickest way to access your tools. You decide which items to take with you on that specific occasion. This way, in the heat of the moment, when you see the perfect tree, you don’t have to look for a saw in the depths of your inventory. Additional information will help you with using your tools. The Stockroom. All your tools and materials will be stored in the stockroom.…
- Devblog #3 Shipwright's Skills - 13 September 2021
Ahoy adventurers! The sea is waiting for you, but before you can start sailing and trading, there is a lot of work to do on land. Building your fleet and creating a trading empire literally from the ground up will require you to master many unique skills. The developers have been working hard on new features, which will help you immerse yourself in the hardships of a shipwright. Various tasks will be performed in form of mini-games, which will ensure that even the most mundane jobs become fun challenges. One of the most important aspects of surviving and constructing a fleet is fire. You will be able to experience that chase of a spark in a mini-game. Keeping the elusive arrow in one place will be a key to starting a kindle strong enough to feed a fire capable of not only cooking meals but also melting ores. Raw materials you collect need to be processed and shaped into nails, bolts, an…

- Devblog #2 “The Galleon” - 7 July 2020
Hello there! Our 3d artists are currently creating one of the galleons. It is an immense project with a lot of details, so takes a lot of time. Simultaneously, our programmers are working on the process of casting cannons. We are not slowing down! Above you can see the galleon in its full glory. This is an advanced model - unique and historically accurate. It is based upon an actual ship from 1684 and consists of… 1,000 pieces! So, if you’ve been wondering what was taking us so long, now you have the answer – we were creating a realistic, enormous ship (we’re not kidding, it’s 40 meters long!). The galleon before your eyes is a draft version displayed in a wireframe mode. It is being modelled in a next-gen utility software by our 3d artists. As soon as it’s finished, we will provide you with more graphics and information. In the meantime you can visit our Discord server and become a shi…
- Devblog #1 "Alpha Build 7" - 19 December 2019
Hello there! Welcome to the first devblog of SBS. Below you will find a recording from the SBS alpha. WARNING: What you will see is not a full and ready game. Most of the current models and animations are just placeholders which will be replaced or improved in the later stages of the game's development. It's an alpha, so many things will be changed in the future. For those who prefer to read - under the YouTube video is the same only that written and with pictures. INTRODUCTION Ship Builder Simulator is a game about… boat building! You guessed right. You'll start with almost nothing. Thrown by the storm on the beach, after your last sail was destroyed by it. You will have to work your way out by becoming the boat builder. Current state of the game is early alpha where we experiment with various gamplay possbilities and implementing those ideas we found the best. Bugfixing and optimisati…
- About material gathering - 14 October 2019
Hey everyone;) You probably wonder what gameplay will look like ... or not? Regardless, I would like to introduce you to one of the gameplay features. I would also like to hear your feedback on this. Let's get to the point! In our game, we want the shipbuilding and development of your shipyard to start from scratch. Maybe not entirely from scratch but at the beginning you will only have a few basic tools such as a hammer or an axe. These tools will allow you to obtain further raw materials such as wood and many others. How to get wood? You probably guessed that you have to cut down a tree;). We promise to do it in the most pleasant way possible. As the game progresses, you'll get better tools that will speed up the material gathering. For these needs, we create an environment in which you will find everything you need. The available area will not be the biggest open world you have encou…
- New development information :). - 8 August 2019
Hello everybody! We haven't communicated for a long time, but we're working hard on the game. We just finished alpha version of Ship Builder Simulator and basic gameplay parts are ready. Here are some of the changes we've made. We can cut down the trees and then they fall! Incredible. Believe me, it's quite satisfying. First ship is ready to be built from scratch. Many resources added such as raw iron, iron bars, nails, beams, wooden planks, linen etc. Usage of different tools is now complete. Axe, Saw, Hammer and so on. Blacksmithing and woodworking workplaces are done and functional. Right now it's quite a mess because we allowed to move workbanches and place them almost everywhere (look at the picture below). We wanted to give player possibility to customize shipyard but we're not sure about that solution. What do you think? Produce things from raw materials by using workplaces and a…
