- Update 0.10.0 released! - 10 August 2026
Finally the next content update has arrived! After months of development and weeks of intense beta-testing and fine tuning, update 0.10.0 is available for download. The most relevant additions are a new outdoor area with several dungeons, increased level cap (7), and the introduction of advanced careers. This is a huge milestone for the game; until now, your characters have wandered the Marches as labourers, apprentices or squires... it is time to assume more heroic roles as knights, arcanists or veterans! You can pick from 15 advanced careers (if you meet the requirements). Many need to be unlocked through trainers, or specific quests.Content-wise, this is also a major update, in fact the one adding (by far) more quests, characters and lore. The number of completable quests in the game raises from 46 to 64, and the estimated completion time of the game sits around 80 hours. At this rat…
- Update 0.10 available to Beta Testers - 20 July 2026
It has been several months of intense work, but this very important update is ready for beta-testers! I am extremely happy to be able to share it after such a long time of designing, creating, writing and adjusting. Thanks for your patience and your enthusiasm; I know this sounds cliché, but you being there is what makes this game possible. Knowing there's so many people eager to play is what keeps me going. How to get the Beta: right-click on the game name on your Library, then open the "Game Versions & Betas" section. At the bottom, enter the code: ankalagon9999 and "Check Code". That will allow you to select the Beta version. There's a new thread for reporting issues, the old one was getting too big. But don't worry, I've noted down everything you reported there.A few things of note: for diverse reasons, a few portraits (three) and a couple new music tracks were not ready to be includ…
- Beta 0.10 is in internal testing - 12 July 2026
As you might already know from the forums, I delayed this release several months to add extra content that I felt was important. Thanks for your patience! I'm now doing internal testing and finishing the last touches during the week, before releasing it to Beta-testers. I hope the Beta is ready by Sunday 19th, if all goes well. EDIT: very likely Monday 20th.Rather than saying more about the update, I'll just share the changelog. It is subject to change, as a few talents, spells or careers may be temporarily left out if issues are detected. New Content & Character AdvancementAdded a new outdoor region to the north of Urendale, with a new town and several dungeons to explore. Added 16 new quests, and completed two existing ones, raising the total of completable quests from 46 to 64. New chapter added to the Main Quest. Level cap raised to 7! The new XP cap is 49,000. New Advanced careers!…
- On next update - 18 February 2026
The next update is not far away, so I thought I could share a summary of what will be added. Here is a run-down of the most important additions:-New outdoor area and dungeons, including a large city. -Over a dozen new quests, including the conclusion of 'The Laughing Blades', part three of the main quest.-Level cap raised to 7-Around 14 new advanced careers (some may be held for another release, still being evaluated)-36 new talents, including 15 Open Talents.-New Rank III spells added.Once this update is released, most of the game core mechanics will be in place, and the "first half" of the game content will be out. I use the quotes because this is an open game in which you can of couse go back and forth, so old areas might always be revisited. I can't provide an exact release date, but most of the above is already done and playable; still there's work ahead of me for weeks, in complet…
- Unity vulnerability update - 5 October 2025
You might have heard about this already, since it has caused considerble buzz. Games made with Unity in the last years seem to suffer from a security vulnerability. You can read more about it here. Today's update includes Unity's patch to fix the issue in Archaelund. From the info that has been published, this issue shouldn't really have affected our players, but it's always better to be safe than sorry, so here it is. There are no other changes in this update.
- Version 0.9 public release - 1 October 2025
Beta testers got to play it a couple of weeks ago, and now the update is finally ready for everyone to enjoy. While this isn't a large update in itself -adding one dungeon and a few improvements- it marks an important milestone in the Early Access journey. This second arc of development (0.8 to 0.9) has been long, lasting over 14 months. Two new outdoor regions and five new dungeons were added in this time, tripling the gameworld size. Archaelund has already more handcrafted content than many complete RPGs out there, with around 60h of gameplay. But also, important gameplay improvements were added. Character options like special arrows, dual wielding, new item mechanics, and additional spells and talents. The game performance has been improved, and balance has been fine-tuned. Still, there's of course so much to do! The next milestone, version 0.10, is expected to mean a similar growth t…

Finally, you can take your revenge on the Bloody Crow pirates! This update features a new dungeon and some relevant tweaks. Our Beta is open, so you can join it anytime and try it for yourself. You're not supposed to be locked out of the main quest by failing a check!Ethereal creatures…
- Update 0.8.6 released - 27 July 2025
This release adds Controller Support for the first time. The game should be playable with most controllers, although it might still receive further improvements. In addition, I am waiting for a Steamdeck to arrive, because I want the game to be fully optimized for this device. While this update was beta-tested during the last weeks, I've been working on a new dungeon that concludes the main quest chapter II. That upcoming release should be out in a few weeks, and will be labeled as 0.9. At the same time, I'll publish and updated roadmap for the game.Dual Wielding: You can now have characters specialized in fighting with two weapons. Ruffians will receive the 'Dual Wielding' Talent automatically as part of the career, but others can get it as an Open Talent, and then improve with the rest of the talents added. In short: when you have this talent, you can select to attack with the main wea…
- Controller support is in Beta - 28 June 2025
After several weeks of hard work, the latest beta update 0.8.6 includes controller support for 99% of game functionality. There's wtill a few minor things (such as typing a character's name) which still require a keyboard, but I'll implement them soon. Our Beta is open, so you can join it anytime and try it for yourself. Since I am not an expert at controller gameplay, any feedback is welcome. This new Beta includes a few other interesting features and bugfixes. Here is the full changelog:Features & Improvements• Added controller support! a few minor game functions may still not be available. If your controller is not autodetected by the game as XBox/PS/Nintendo, you'll have to set its type in the settings>input menu.• Added support for 3840 x 1080 ultrawide resolution.• New music track in Irampor Ruins.Content adjustments & Balance• Companions joining (or returning to) your party will no…
- Archaelund on Steam's 'Daily Deal', and more. - 13 June 2025
This is the deal!Greetings, adventurers! Today, Archaelund has been listed on Steam's main page as "Daily Deal", a curated selection of great games offered at the best prices. It is the first time Archaelund goes on sale, and it is a great opportunity to buy it at a price very similar to the original Early Access release price. Enough merchant talk, let's talk now about the good things to come.0.9 Release is around the cornerMost of the features listed on the roadmap for 0.9 are already released as of 0.8.5, past month. Only a few things are remaining, and we expect to have them out quickly.Controller support is almost ready for the beta, and will likely be available to beta-testers next week, in release 0.8.6. A few weeks later, there should be another update with the conclusion of the main quest chapter 2, and some interesting new features, such as dual-wielding. Looking at the Horizo…
- Update 0.8.5 released - 14 May 2025
Here's another small release that keeps paving the way for 0.9. Some love for archers was due, and the new arrows also make the Crafting skill more useful. I am now working on adding dual-wielding and player-usable poisons. I've begun experimenting with controller support in this update as well. For now, all you can do with a controller is to move and look around in exploration mode (using both sticks), and select objects with the "down" button (A in Xbox, X in PS). There is still no controller settings. But more will come in the next weeks, making the game fully playable with controller very soon. There were still a couple lingering issues that needed fixing after the last content update. Find below the complete changelog. Features & Improvements Arrows implemented. You can still fire unlimited 'normal arrows' that don't show on inventory, but a new slot has been added to equip special…
- Update 0.8.4 released - 6 May 2025
The may 1st update provided a lot of new content, but also new spells, talents and even mechanics or special status effects. This update provides further polishing, dealing with a lot of minor issues and raising the XP cap, which was never intended to be reached without 'grinding'. Adjustments Raised XP cap to 29,600, to better allow progressing through the new content. Size of party inventory increased from 64 to 96. Ethereal type enemies such as ghosts are now immune to 'Root' effects. Potions of Deep Breath now last 10 rounds instead of 5, its purchase cost has been increased accordingly and the alchemy recipe will now produce one potion, not two. NPC spellcasters have more willpower now. Fixes on new content Potion of Serenity now correctly reduces insanity, not poison. Ebran will now grant several potions as reward for the 'Expedition to Hell' quest, as intended. This will be appli…
- Update 0.8.3 released - 1 May 2025
After long months of work, update 0.8.3 is available on Steam. This update triples the content compared to the original EA release; playable time is currently 50+ hours. Again, I must send a big thank you to our Beta Testers, which have navigated all kind of weird bugs through the last week, until the last of them were fixed. New Content & Character Advancement Added a new outdoor region to the south of Urendale, with several dungeons to explore. 12 new quests added, raising the total to 46. Chapter two of the main quest can be advanced significantly (but not yet concluded). Level cap raised to 6! the new XP cap is 24,000. New Open Talents: Second Skin, Gifted Pupil, Adept Student, Arcane Scholar. There's a total of 46 Open Talents in the game now! Six new new spells added for the disciplines Conjuration, Gateway, Auspice (available at a vendor in the new area), and also for Order and M…
- Beta Update 0.8.3 is now available for testers - 26 April 2025
I'm excited to announce the next major update is already available for Beta Testers, and very soon will be released for everyone. You can now travel south of Urendale, where you can explore a new town and complete 12 new quests. In addition the level cap has been raised to 6, and massive performance optimizations were added. The complete changelog can be found here, in the steam forum Beta discussion. In the same post you can see instructions on how to join the Beta, everyone owning the game can join and start playing right away if they wish. Please report any issues by replying to that same thread, if possible. In the same post you can find useful info about where to find log files. Please keep a copy of your saves prior to the Beta, in case something goes wrong. I've been very careful and tested everything myself, but the update is huge and has tons of dialogue, some of it with comple…
- A few details about next update - 4 February 2025
Hello everyone! EDIT March 25th, as posted in a reply: I decided to add two extra quests, the new area really needed them. The new content is already playable but there's plenty of small details still to work on, such as itemization to adjust, a few new abilities and spells needing new code, etc. Unless something happens, I should have the beta released in less than two weeks. In my last news post back in december I estimated update 0.8.3 would be released in late February at the earliest, and things are going as expected. All the new scenery is 95% ready (and that has been a huge amount of work). Coding required for this update is nearly done as well, including the QoL improvements, new level cap and other stuff. What remains to be done, then? writing dialogues, journal entries, planning and rigging encounters, and also implementing a few new effects and powers is, roughly, halfway don…
- Merry Christmas and happy 2025 to everyone! - 25 December 2024
Hello everyone! I’d like to wish you all a joyful holiday season and an incredible New Year. It’s been a while since the last update, 0.8.2, in November, and I haven’t been very active in the community since then. The reason? I’ve been working nonstop on the next big update! Once more, it's a big one that can't be released in small installments. While I’d hoped to deliver it as a Christmas surprise or in celebration of the Early Access anniversary this January, it’s definitely going to take longer; at least until late February. Here are my main development goals for 2025: Release Update 0.8.3: This will introduce a new map area, an increased level cap, and many QoL improvements (like inventory sorting, quest search filtering, and more). Similar to the previous map expansion, some areas and dungeons will remain inaccessible for now. Reaching Version 0.9: Targeting a spring release, this…
- Update 0.8.2 released - 3 November 2024
Thanks to the amazing Beta-Testers, a number of reported issues has been fixed through the last weeks. Some of these were old bugs present since the january release, but most were specific from the major update 0.8.1. There's also a few adjustments and improvements related to poison status, and other minor changes. Encounters will now correctly aggro all the creatures as intended, even if they are split. Poison is now a bit easier to resist. Failing Vitality check by less than 25, will reduce poison power by 1. A successful check will reduce the poison by 2+, depending on the success margin. Party members dying in combat by poison or other slow-damage effect, will now correctly receive wounds as per selected difficulty. Poison resistance is now reported in your console, so you can see your chances and dice rolls and their effect. When camping in the wilds, poison will now take effect an…
- Update 0.8.1 is out! - 18 October 2024
It's out! I am glad to announce 0.8.1 is already released. This update doubles the content compared to the original EA release in January; playable time is currently 35+ hours. I want to take this opportunity to extend a huge thank you to our Beta Testers, who have been incredibly active on the forums. These past 10 days have been intense, with nightly builds addressing every reported issue. Here is the full changelog: New Content & Improvements Added a new outdoor region east of the Galeb Peninsula, with a town and a new dungeon to explore. Some dungeons and area sections are still not accessible. 12 new side-quests added (one of them non-completable, marked as such on journal). Level cap raised to 5! the new XP cap is 17,000. Many new talents implemented. Rank III spells partially implemented (for Impetus, Mentalism, Piety, Order and Malediction disciplines, the rest are on the way).…
- Beta release 0.8.1 - 9 October 2024
At long last, it is here! The first major update to Archaelund has arrived. Want to join Beta and try it? Here are the instructions. I advise you to not overwrite all of your previous saves, just in case! this is Beta testing, remember. Here is the provisional list of changes (I'll keep adding and fixing while testing goes along, so definitive 0.8.1 changelog may differ). New Content & Improvements -Added a new outdoor region east of the Galeb Peninsula, with a town and a new dungeon to explore. Some dungeons and area sections are still not accessible. -12 new side-quests added (one of them non-completable, marked as such on journal). -Level cap raised to 5! -Many new talents implemented. -Rank III spells implemented only for Impetus and Mentalism Disciplines, the rest are on the way. - Medrin Forest is getting closer... - 25 September 2024
Archaelund is about to grow! This is a brief summary of what has been going on, and what is to come. Development summary In the first six months since release, I focused on polishing the existing content and mechanics. Along the way, we added a couple of new dungeons, bumped the number of completable quests from 17 to 21, and introduced many new features. You can check out the full details in the changelog. And so, the 0.7.x development era came to an end. Long live 0.8.x!!! What comes next? Since summer started, I've been working on something quite more exciting: a new playable region comparable in size to the Peninsula, nearly doubling the game's current playable area. I initially planned to release it with minimal content and no level cap increase, by August or September, and then complete the content in several updates. However it quickly became clear that this approach wasn't ideal…
