- Mondrian's Physical Edition is Now Available! - 28 July 2026
Hi everyone! Bit of a surprise announcement today, but after months of planning, plotting, printing, and profusely puttering, the physical edition of Mondrian - Plastic Reality is now available! This is only available on CD, so you'll need a CD, DVD, or BluRay drive to run it (these can be easily found on Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, MicroCenter, etc. it for about $25-$45 apiece). Inside the jewel case you'll get the disc with the latest version of Mondrian (1.6.4) as well as a Steam Key to access the Workshop, and a sticker! Now you may be wondering, "... Why?" Well, curiosity for the most part. With all the talk about physical media lately, I remembered how much I used to adore shopping for new games at CompUSA. Even the bargain bin had some gems! So I felt like it was my civic duty to bring this game to CD, and find out just how much the demand is for physical games, even just as collectibl…
- Mondrian's June Update is Here (and tiny) - 8 June 2026
Hey all! I half-wasn't expecting to do an update this month, but a couple new bugs rolled around and we can't have that. Literally this update is just two bug fixes, so here we go.Bug FixesSplash Screen: Fixed Steam Cloud defaults causing the game to set up incorrectly, which meant Levels, Backgrounds, etc. wouldn’t be present in the content folder. The game now checks for a Mondrian Maker settings file to be present. If it isn’t, the setup runs as intended.Studio: Fixed One-Color backgrounds displaying in Black & White at first if the scene loaded using a Random color harmony. Now that these are sorted, I feel that much more confident in getting the physical edition underway, so maybe now FINALLY I can get some updates out on that soon. Otherwise I will just continue plugging away on next Lantana project and I can't wait to show you what I've been cooking in Godot over the last couple o…
- Mondrian's May Update has Arrived - 19 May 2026
Hey all! Danny here with the latest updates. It's been a busy month, getting all these fixes together, and there's even some interesting new controller-based features I think you'll all like a lot. Let's dive in and see what's new!Support for Multiple ControllersIn the Main Menu, if you go into Options > Gameplay, you'll notice a new “Selected Controller” option. This option will change your controller to the next attached controller when you select it, and loop back around to the first if there are no more found. This is VERY useful if you have multiple controllers attached and want to use a specific one, as this shows the controller's name as well as its device number. Please note that if you're using Steam Input, your controller will still display as “Xbox 360 Controller for Windows,” and due to how Steam Input takes over your controllers, you may not be able to scrub through them as…

- Some Interesting Fixes for 1.6.3b6 - 13 May 2026
I got a bug report last night about the game jumping to the Gem Chest upon starting any game mode. My initial instinct was that something went wrong in the setup and the game did not create its content folders or copy over the default levels and backgrounds. This can possibly happen for a number of reasons, namely if system security settings don't let apps write to AppData\\Roaming, so I've attempted to create a redundant loading process for levels and backgrounds which opens them from the Install folder instead of the content folder. I may take this even further for the final 1.6.3 release if this doesn't solve the problem.Note though that if you have an empty Content Levels folder, you won't see anything show up in the open window in Mondrian Maker and downloading Steam Workshop levels may not work right either. You'll likely have to manually make a Levels folder yourself in this case…
- What's Incoming for 1.6.3 - 1 May 2026
Happy May, everybody! As usual, the next patch for Mondrian - Plastic Reality is shaping up to be a big one. I wish I could stop but I just keep running into things that are in major need of fixing. This time around is controller functionality. Specifically, the game only would only read the first controller it detected. This is now somewhat mitigated by being able to manually select which controller you want to use if you have multiple controllers attached. The button under Options > Gameplay will now show you the name of the selected controller AND its number, in case you have multiple of the same type plugged in.At the moment, though, the overrides from Steam Input make this read "Xbox 360 Controller" no matter what you have plugged in, and seems to still be limiting this to one controller. This is probably because the game uses the "Generic Controller" setting, so I'll be looking int…
- Fixes on fixes on fixes in the beta branch - 23 April 2026
So one of the funny things about Clickteam Fusion is that it keeps track of Global Values numerically, despite the fact that they can be named. In the last test update, I had created a "joystick" value which worked fine in the work projects. However, upon transferring them up to the build project, I had failed to recognize that the Global Values in the work projects did not match the values in the build project, and thus controllers stopped working entirely.I have now gone through the painstaking task of redoing all the work from a few days ago to make sure this "joystick" value is the same across the whole game and we should be back in business now. Keyword being should. Please update your game to the latest version to grab these fixes, and as always, if you run into issues, let me know.- Danny
- Please help test Plastic Reality v1.6.3! - 20 April 2026
Hi all. Due to some feedback on social media, controller detection is getting a major overhaul in the next update. The goal for this overhaul is for you to be able to use ANY controller you have plugged in, not just "Controller 1" as it's been for years. In order to achieve this, I've had to do a few things:Introduce a new Options > Gameplay item for your currently selected controller. You can scroll through all your attached controllers by just pressing this button like any other option, even with your keyboard or mouse. Now as I only have an Xbox One controller, I do not know how well this will work, especially with Steam Input, so this is a big thing I need feedback on.Make it so that the Options > Gameplay menu polls for new controllers when you press the "current controller" button. This will allow you to make the game detect a controller if you plug it in after the game starts.Upd…
- The Last Exhibit 1.6.2 is now Live - 4 April 2026
Happy Passover and Easter Weekend, everybody! I was playing around with fixing some bugs this morning, and lo and behold, I got them finished! So... yeah why not push the update? The big change in this latest update is that "Maximized" no longer Fullscreens the game, but instead will squash it in between your taskbar and the game's header bar. Not my preferred way to play, but it should work just fine regardless. Note that playing the game Maximized does modify the aspect ratio of the window, which in turn will make Studio thumbnails ever so slightly squished. I personally recommend going back into Fullscreen mode or a standard 16:9 window before taking a Steam Workshop thumbnail, but that's only because I'm a stickler for these kinds of things. You do you!Patch NotesChangesGame: Maximized no longer Fullscreens the game, but leaves the header bar visible instead.Studio: Added an extra ch…
- 1.6.2 Beta - Even more small fixes - 30 March 2026
Hi all. There's a test build now up on the beta branch. This has some potential fixes for the game not generating a Thumbnails folder on first setup, Stamping in Mondrian Maker not painting blocks the color in the main swatch when the Shuffle Button is off, maximizing the window fullscreening the game (now maximizing leaves a header bar), and ugly extra bleed space around the frame when capturing thumbnails with the window maximized.Maximized captures will still give a slightly wider result than expected (for instance, a 1x1 capture will be more like 1.05x1) just due to the nature of the window squashing because of the taskbar. Overall then I still recommend capturing your thumbnails in either Windowed or Fullscreen mode (Alt-Enter works just fine), but you do you.Ideally I'll push this build to the default branch in a week if there are no other issues, but let me know how it works for…

- "The Last Exhibit" Now Available - 23 February 2026
The Last ExhibitThe time has come, everyone. Mondrian - Plastic Reality's final, major update. I've spent the last six months pouring over this one, building features, cleaning bugs, and adding in long-missing core functionality. While this is indeed the final feature update, I'm not putting the code on ice just yet, in case anyone runs into any issues. But if any pop up, once they're cleared, that will be that, and it will be time to say goodbye. But don't worry, some new stuff is getting cooked up at Lantana Games, and I'm excited to share it with you all at some point. In the meantime, let's dive in and see what's new!The Definitive GuideFirst and foremost, you'll notice a new “manual.pdf” included in the install folder. - The Last Exhibit - Release Candidate - 13 February 2026
Hi all! Today's update for "The Last Exhibit" is officially the Release Candidate. This means the update is feature-locked, and barring any new visual additions or bug fixes, this is what's in store. This candidate is mostly made up of some bug fixes related to mouse-over states in Mondrian Maker. Things feel pretty good on my end but please let me know if you run into any issues, as always. If all goes according to plan, The Last Exhibit will go live on February 23.In case you haven't heard, The Definitive Guide to Mondrian Maker and Mondrian Studio is now available for preorder at Barnes & Noble. This is the same manual (in final form) that is available as an eBook with the game, but in paperback form, in case you prefer that. - The Last Exhibit Beta 6 Released - 3 February 2026
Hello hello! After an unexpectedly long three weeks, I'm back with POTENTIALLY the final beta for "The Last Exhibit." I actually can't even remember specifically what's in the build, but I do know there a few key additions worth mentioning:Museum plaques have gotten a big overhaul with bigger text, shorter difficulty descriptions, and updated difficulty select buttons. The "Rotation" slider in Mondrian Studio's Custom Framing section is now limited to just 0° or 90°.The method for adjusting the capture area in Mondrian Studio has changed from Screen Size to Window Size. This way, if you play the game in Windowed mode, it will actually capture and appropriately-sized image from the game window, rather than from your entire screen.Fixed the Color Shuffle Toggle button in Mondrian Maker not working with just selecting it when using a controller. The manual has received some updates and will…
- The Last Exhibit Beta 5 - 9 January 2026
Hey everybody! Just a small update today to fix some more issues on the main menu. In particular, windowed modes are now properly sized to compensate for the header bar, and there are some other fixes related to the Maximize button. All of this is still in development, but will be finalized for The Last Exhibit's launch in the next few weeks. One other addition is a big change to how Workshop content is downloaded. This process is no longer automatic. Instead you'll be presented with a couple of buttons in the popup: Download and Skip. This way you can retain some level of control over when you want to update your Workshop content. Pressing other Menu options or clicking anything other than the Download button counts as Skip, but you can also now go into the Options menu and select the new "Download Workshop Content" to do just that. That's all for today, folks! Enjoy the build and rememb…
- Happy New Year! The Last Exhibit Beta 4 is Now Available - 2 January 2026
Happy 2026 everybody! We're closing in on the final release of The Last Exhibit, but Beta 4 is here for now and brings some very important new features. The biggest of which? WINDOWED MODE IS BACK! Plus, all windowed resolutions work (1920x1080, 1280x720, 960x540, etc.). This was not a small effort to get this working so please test it out (particularly with Mondrian Studio) and let me know if it's doing its job. In the meantime I'll keep testing it out on my end and make sure everything is up to snuff. Some other additions for this update are much improved compatibility with Steam Cloud saves, which includes your save game, museum, and Mondrian Maker settings. This also includes your game settings, but this will be changed soon what with your video settings likely to be different between your PC and Steam Deck.New Keyboard Shortcuts have been added to Mondrian Maker, including Control-N…
- The Last Exhibit - Beta 3 is Now Available - 5 December 2025
Sorry for the delay, everybody! In the midst of working on this final update for Mondrian, I realized just how out-of-date the in-edit manual was, and could not successfully find a way to update it in-game where it would be screen-readable and easily editable. So, the Instructions panel has been removed, and in its place I have begun work on a PDF Mondrian Maker manual, fully updated, and even including instructions for Mondrian Studio too! The Instructions panel has been replaced with Quick Links, which will open the manual, the local content folder, or open your web browser to a few different sites (our homepage, this Steam community, our Discord, etc.). This manual is still in-progress, but you can view an early, low resolution Preview version of it for now.Much effort has been put into improving the controller experience in Mondrian Maker. You'll find that you can now actually acces…
