- Game Design: Dungeons - 22 January 2021
Hi Everyone! Hopefully, you’ve gotten through the first month of 2021 in one piece! You know what they say, “As one door opens another one … opens!” This is atleast the case for dungeon doors. One of the core elements of our Wheel of Fate game is the replayability of our ever changing dungeons. For this game design spotlight, we wanted to bring to light the thought process and logic surrounding these mysterious ruins. Here’s a deep dive into the game design behind the creation of Wheel of Fate’s procedural dungeons! What was the most difficult part of creating the dungeons? The most difficult part of designing the dungeons was piecing it together. By that, I mean we had a clear vision of the dungeon system we wanted, had modular dungeon pieces and a working AI but it was a matter of connecting each operation. We had to make the AI capable of generating these unique dungeons based on pla…
- Happy Holidays! - 25 December 2020
Season's Greetings Fateful Fellows! We hope you're excited for or are currently enjoying the holiday season so far! The year 2020 has been a memorable one in more ways than one for all of us. As the year comes to a close, it's always a great time to take rest and reflect on what has past so that you can plan your path for the future to come. Reflection is a great way to recognize and analyze your efforts from a practical point of view compared to your mindset when you had initially faced a situation or event. It was truly a humbling experience attempting to navigate the pandemic this year. We are grateful to the immense support for small Canadian businesses, such as ourselves, during this time. For Wheel of Fate, we had to restructure our game studio to working only online and this was the first year we didn't attend any live events which was a major change from our expectations. Notabl…

Hey there adventurers! Hope you’re all excited for the upcoming holiday season! If you haven’t already, then don’t forget to check out our Holiday Twitter Raffle for the chance to win an awesome Wheel of Fate prize pack! For this game design deep dive we decided to focus on the battle system for Wheel of Fate! Here’s a Q&A digest of the game design and intentions involved behind the development of Wheel of Fate’s battle system. Why did you decide to add the twitch system to the battle system? Our team wanted to add more than just a turn-based battle system. We wanted to involve the player more which is why we decided to add the quick time events. What games did you draw inspiration from for the Wheel of Fate battle system? Some key games that we drew inspiration from were Grandia, paper mario, Final Fantasy, and Child of light. Wheel of Fate is a nostalgia capsule of the majority of 90s…

- Designing Kismet's Fall - 20 November 2020
Hey there folks! Here at UDX interactive, we always like revisiting and honoring all our progress from the beginning of Wheel of Fate’s development to where we are now with our recently released Leo 1.3.0 update. This game design highlight, we’ll be spotlighting the avatar’s base of operations, Kismet’s Fall! Seeing as how some of the biggest changes from our Leo 1.3.0 update happened to the buildings and gameplay surrounding the town. Here’s a Q&A breakdown of the planning and designing involved in the development of the town where Wheel of Fate takes place! What was the inspiration for Kismet’s Fall? Our inspiration was based on games that centered around a singular location as a hub such as Diablo. The lore surrounding Kismet’s Fall represents a gold rush mentality. A town founded by rebels that is now attracting people from all over. A small town down on its luck that you’re the may…
- Leo 1.3.0 Update - 13 November 2020
Greetings followers of fate! The wheel continues to spin restlessly as it continues to seek a fate where the hands of the fateless god can no longer reach the World of Providence. These woven threads of fate have now intertwined Cancer’s reign into Leo’s realm! Experience both depth and power as this turning of the wheel sets the world aflame with the powerful scorching sun of Leo! This powerful update will be combining elements of both the Cancer 1.2.0 and Leo 1.3.0 update and as with the season of Cancer, we value depth… high ‘depth’-finition graphics! We primarily focused on improving the graphics of the game and we have now implemented the talking A.I! Not to say that this is the only thing we’ve been working on! Take a look at the features and highlights that the energies of Cancer and Leo brings for Wheel of Fate! Town updates Implemented new building models Changed upgrades for t…

- How does the A.I. work? - 31 October 2020
Salutations everyone! Good news! As most of you know from our Development roadmap, we have the Cancer 1.2.0 update coming up. However, due to the hardworking game development team we'll be releasing the Cancer and Leo update in a combined bulk Leo 1.3.0 update! This update is currently in testing! In this game development highlight, we wanted to showcase the Wheel of Fate. More specifically, the A.I. technology that it utilizes to create and change the World of Providence that your avatar of fate must survive in. Without further ado, here’s a basic explanation on how the A.I. technology in Wheel of Fate works! Essentially, the A.I. in Wheel of Fate determines what content to deliver based on the behaviour it ‘learns’ when observing the player. The cycle starts when the player makes a choice which is observed and recorded by the A.I. The choices the player makes will then update the adap…
- Designing the Monsters - 23 October 2020
Hiya Fateful Fellows! With Halloween just around the corner, we decided to focus this game design highlight on the monsters featured in Wheel of Fate! Here’s an in depth look at how we planned and designed some of the many dungeon dwellers that you find in the World of Providence! Please note that the Overlord, Otto and Towenn will be excluded in our dungeon monster discussion since some questions would be too unbalanced if they were included. What’s your favourite dungeon monster from Wheel of Fate? This was a difficult one to choose because I really wanted to say either the Overlord, Otto or Towenn as my favourites… In regards to the looks of the monster, I have to say the goblins or spiders because their elemental skins look great! Although, another personal favourite are the fateless monsters. They look amazing without their armor because you can see more details of the ‘fateless’ s…
