  • LaserZone is now released on Steam! - 29 July 2021

Greetings Hello, everyone! I am Jung Hwan Hwang – the level designer behind LaserZone. I’m speaking on behalf of our team and our director since I am the only person who can write in English. What We've Been Up to As you guessed, LaserZone has been finally released! Our team is excited and extremely happy at the moment. It took more than 3 years to release our game, and there had been tough problems lurking around the corners. The first two years were slow-going since we lacked manpower. In addition, there were conflicts between crew members, COVID-19 prevented offline meetings, and our rating got rejected once. A handful of reasons delayed the release, and it hit our team’s morale even though no one said anything about it. However, our director aims to complete any product no matter what. His tenacity gave us the motivation to stay cool and deliver a polished game to the market. 7 mont…

  • LaserZone is coming to Steam soon! - 26 July 2021

Greetings Hello, everyone! I am Jung Hwan Hwang – the level designer behind LaserZone. I hope you are staying safe and strong in this global pandemic. I’m speaking on behalf of our team and our director since I am the only person who can write in English. What We've Been Up to As you guessed, LaserZone is going to be released soon! For some, it must have been a very long waiting, especially if you happened to come across the game at Busan Indie Connect Festival (an annual indie-game show held in South Korea), or started following the game in 2020. Our game, listed with other 149 indie games in BIC Festival. We also acknowledge that 2 months have passed since Dev Log #3, which might have left some people wondering what is going on with the development. So please, let me explain what occurred during the last 2 months. If not interested, you can skip below! There are three reasons why the…

  • Dev Log #3 - 23 May 2021

Hello, everyone. I’m the level designer of the LaserZone. I hope you are having a good day. It’s been 3 weeks since we posted the announcement about delaying the game’s release. As promised back then, I’m here to relay information about what’s going on in our project before June arrives. Game, Ready for Testing Our project build folder, including the working .exe file. Let’s cut to the chase. We’ve completed a game version for the upcoming second Focus Group Test (or FGT). This version is intended to become the release version if we don’t receive critical feedback during the second FGT. That’s basically the gist of this Dev Log. But if you want more details, please continue reading. A 3-Week Schedule for Improving the Game We’ve been using a new project-management program called “Monday”. After the first FGT, these are the four main goals we’ve been attempting to accomplish: Reducing ac…

  • Announcement #1 - 30 April 2021

Hello everyone, I am JungHwan Hwang – the level designer behind LaserZone. It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to push the game’s release date to June, and it is difficult to provide an exact date yet (will be confirmed by our director and informed in future Dev Logs and Announcements). There were several reasons behind this decision, but simply put – the game is not ready for launch, and we received similar feedback from our focused group test (or FGT) run by 9 testers. Our testers filled out these valuable survey. ----- First, we have failed to eliminate all the bugs remaining in our latest version. About half are minor, but others negatively impact gameplay. Second, Chapter 4 ~ 6 felt too difficult because those maps required too much responsiveness and precision from the player. Third, controllability for the User Interface and in-game movement needs to be improved. Also,…

  • Dev Log #2 - 18 March 2021

Greetings, everyone! I’m the level designer of the LaserZone. We hope you are staying healthy in this global pandemic. I wrote down the very first Dev Log two weeks ago. You might be wondering what has happened since then, so I decided to write another Dev Log to communicate with everyone. Besides, I didn’t want to leave the Newsfeed for too long. Boss Fights As mentioned in the previous Log, one of our top priorities is overhauling and improving our Boss-fight experience. Boss-fights from Chapter 3 to 6 felt too challenging because of how frantic they were, and some mechanics were unintuitive and unfair for the player. Currently, an overhaul for Chapter 3, 4, and 5 has been completed. Our programmer is at hard work implementing the design decisions for Chapter 6. The final Boss-fight is also the most lengthy one, so it’ll take some additional time to finish (but not longer than a week)…

  • Dev Log #1 - 23 February 2021

Hello, everyone. I’m one of the developers behind LaserZone. I’m also responsible for the level design and English translation. What We've Been Up to It’s been a long time since we pre-released our game on Steam Store Page in November last year. I’ve been thinking of writing news for our game, but the last three months gave me little time to spare. And since I’m the only one in the team who speaks English, they are why the news feed was left empty for a long time. At the time, we were at hard work trying to complete our game within the initial deadline, December 5. However, our release has been tacitly pushed back because of a few reasons. First and foremost, I felt that normal maps – which create the bulk of our content – needed a rework. Even though LaserZone embraces action and timing, they were a little too emphasized. I was concerned that some of our puzzle maniacs might not apprec…
