- Dum-Dum Halloween - 17 October 2021
There's a new Dum-Dum activity for Halloween! See the in-game book "Hogonet Site List" to start it: Bard Gamly, professional ghost enthusiast, needs your help! He has been building a Hogonet site full of ghost-hunting tips and stories. Problem is, his Hogonet site itself is now haunted! Hogo intelligences--or "ghosts" as Bard calls them--have hidden themselves deep within the pages of Bard's site. It's up to you to track them down and flush them out. If you can puzzle your way through clearing the site of ghosts, Bard just might have a little reward for you. A Hogonet address wlil be available in the "Hogonet Site List" book through October. If it's no longer October, the story can be started or continued at any time by visiting the Hogonet site "bard/ghost" directly. If you're looking for more Halloween haunts, previous Dum-Dum activities and updates provide more spooky selections to s…
- Update notes for September 24, 2021 - 25 September 2021
Addressed an issue where the in-game serial number wasn't displaying a usable number.
- Minor fixes - 24 September 2021
There have been a few small updates after the game left Early Access. They have addressed issues that recently came up, notably: - Fixed an issue where Note Sheet didn't auto-save text that was copied from a text book if Note Sheet was closed by another program, such as OS Upgrade or Shut Down. - Added minor explanatory context to some quest dialogue to make it a bit easier. - Added a "reply" button to the Mail program to save time when responding to someone. I'll continue making minor updates and fixes as I discover issues. Thank you to everyone who's been contacting me about them!
- Dum-Dum exiting Early Access! - 20 September 2021
Dum-Dum is exiting Early Access! This has been a long road for me. The game was originally released in Steam's Early Access two years ago. Since then I've added a lot of new content: obvious things like stories and puzzles, and less obvious things like quality of life fixes and updates. Developing this game has been a great experience. But there have also been hurdles. About a year ago I discovered a major problem: the game's graphics were completely corrupt on certain new laptops. It only seemed to be an issue on a small percentage of computers, but that was enough to bring my creative development to a halt. It was very disheartening. I didn't feel comfortable releasing the final game knowing that it wouldn't work on some people's systems. The good news is that, while it took awhile to address the core problem, it should now be completely fixed! I uploaded a test fix to the beta channe…
- Earn "Doorlars" and Go Shopping - 11 July 2020
There are now two new features that collectively provide a reward system for playing games. GAME BANK - A new program that comes pre-installed with Hogo OS 1985 Edition. It is initially broken and can be fixed by working through a series of puzzles. Once fully operational, leave Game Bank open while playing compatible games to earn "Doorlars," the proprietary currency of the Doormall superstore. DOORMALL - A Hogonet site for 1985's superest superstore. Use Doorlars to purchase digital items including art, music, and toys that can be accessed within the Hogonet browser. Note: you can also buy "physical" items from Doormall, but you probably shouldn't; these items will remain at the Doormall warehouse and are intended to be used in upcoming quests. Plus: the "Emperor's Clothes" text book now includes a link to the new Hogonet LIbrary of Learning site. Use this link to access a small libra…

- Two New Levels - 25 November 2019
Continuing to work on the new storyline, so this week's updates are again small. Two new Hogowiz Keep puzzle levels added. New building elements include bricks, plants, and flowers.
- New Storyline in Development - 19 November 2019
Most of our focus right now is on developing a new storyline + associated Hogo OS programs. It will be awhile before it's all ready, so updates for the upcoming weeks will be relatively small. This week's update adds two new levels in Hogowiz Keep, bringing the total to six.
- Multiplayer Test - 11 November 2019
A local multiplayer option is now available in Hogowiz Keep. Trying local multiplayer requires two instances of Dum-Dum running on the same network (only two players can play in multiplayer at the moment). This is the beginning of our multiplayer efforts; eventually, we hope to add more multiplayer options including online. To try local multiplayer: Launch Hogowiz Keep Hit ESC to enter the menu Hit either Shift-H to host or Shift-C to join a hosted game Additional updates: New "Winter" desktop theme. Launch Basic Box and type "desktoptheme winter" to activate, or "desktoptheme default" to deactivate. Added two additional Hogowiz Keep puzzle levels with new blocks to collect. All of the Hogowiz Keep levels have been tested & are absolutely solvable! If it seems impossible, try looking for a different route...
- Hogowiz Keep New Level - 5 November 2019
Updated Hogowiz Keep, the bonus game that you can install from the Hogo/BBS Hogonet site. There are now three stages to each game level: First, find a way to reach your cat familiar. Next, lead your cat familiar to your cauldron, which will enable building for that level. Picking up new blocks will allow you to "learn" how to build with them. When the blue portal appears, step inside to unlock the next level. The list of unlocked levels is available from the Hogowiz Keep menu. There are currently two levels to explore & learn new building materials from. Anything built on the first level should now be saved when quitting Hogowiz Keep. However, any building done on other levels will not currently be saved.
- Hogo BIOS - 28 October 2019
Hogo OS 1985 Edition now has a simulated BIOS that provides new features. When the game is first launched, or if you are upgrading Hogo OS to a different operating system during gameplay, a string of boot-up text appears (e.g. "Starting Hogocore"). Hold down the delete key for one second while this text is on-screen to enter the BIOS. Hogo BIOS offers several features: HINTS - if you are stuck trying to complete the main quest, this option identifies the section that you're currently working on, and provides information on how to get past it! BOOT - Customize the text that you see while the game is first launching. RESET - This offers the ability to completely reset the main Dum-Dum story to the very beginning. This option is only available if you have completed the main story. In addition, there have been a few other updates since last week: ROCK RUNNER SAVE STATE - If you are working…
- Hogowiz Keep Updates - 22 October 2019
Multiple small updates to Hogowiz Keep have been added over the past week. Hogowiz Keep has also now been moved from beta to the main branch. Changes since last week include: A cat companion that follows you around & unlocks new features (currently the ability to build, with more features coming soon). New updated landscape art and layout. New streamlined controls for placing and removing blocks. New menu interface. Ability to "learn" about new blocks by picking them up, adding them to your list of building materials. We've also been testing multiplayer functionality, which will be made broadly available in an upcoming update. Hogowiz Keep will continue to be expanded over the upcoming weeks. - Hogowiz Keep game - 14 October 2019
The new addition this week is "Hogowiz Keep," a creative building game with puzzle elements. This is currently ONLY available on the beta branch of Dum-Dum while it is being developed. This first release has very basic game play. You can run around one of the game's pocket dimensions, pick up blocks, and place them down to do some basic building. This is just the core interface; there is a lot more planned for the game. Also, please note that the controls are temporary and will likely change as we continue expanding it. To switch to the beta branch: right-click on Dum-Dum in your Steam game list, choose Properties, click on the Betas tab, and select "beta" from the drop-down list. To try Hogowiz Keep, launch Dum-Dum and go to the "Hogo/BBS" Hogonet page in-game. Look on the message board for how to get started.

- Hogo BBS and Desktop Customization - 23 September 2019
A couple of new updates are on the beta branch: Hogo OS now has a virtual in-game bulletin board system (BBS), primarily used as a primitive forum. It is accessible through the Hogonet Reader. There are currently only a few things to explore, but this will be expanded in future updates. See the text book "Hogo OS Pro Tips" by Hogo Sub-worker #64 for the Hogo BBS address. It is now possible to fully customize the position of icons on your desktop. Visit the new Hogo BBS in-game (see above) for directions on how to do this. To switch to the beta branch: right-click on Dum-Dum in your Steam game list, choose Properties, click on the Betas tab, and select "beta" from the drop-down list.
- End Game Bonus Content - 16 September 2019
A couple new additions this week: A new program Window+ expands the number of windows Hogo OS 1985 Edition can open at once, from three to eight! It is a reward for completing the main story, at which point it will appear in the Store with enough credit to download it. The Hogonet site for the "Amazing Hogonet Magician" can be found in the "Hogonet Site List" book.
- New Beta Features - 9 September 2019

We currently have several new additions: A new Hogonet site for Smellco, a company founded by a disgruntled Hogo ex-employee. Find its address in the "Hogonet Site List" book. A new mini-quest related to Smellco. Completing it results in a new achievement "Sweet Smell of Success" Testing background wallpaper themes with images.
