- Monthly Nexus - August 2026: Introduction to Tots-like Games and 9-1 Look Back - 31 August 2026
*I had planned to update Monthly Nexus after the 9-1 expansion, but since August is almost over, I’ve decided to post it now*“Monthly Nexus” is a series I started after coming across a tweet one day while doing an ego search that said, “I want a survival report from the developer”—and basically, I only write trivial stuff here.*The combined July–August issue of Monthly Nexus, which summarizes Tactical Nexus’s game design and a post-mortem for Version 5.0, will be posted on the website next month or the month after.(It’s nearly 5 times the word count of this article—almost the length of a paperback book—and since Steam News tends to glitch when the word count exceeds a certain limit, I’ll be posting it on the website instead.)Hello. This is the August issue of Monthly Nexus. It’s been quite a while since I’ve felt Earth’s gravity.Since I was living in zero-gravity space from February thro…
- We’ve implemented the effects of previously unimplemented items - 13 August 2026
◆The effects of Legacies and Spells that were previously unimplemented have been added. Many of the Legacies and Spells from Chapter 9 onward are extremely powerful, which will further amp up the “idiot game” vibe. Stay tuned. (That said, Chapters 9-2 through 9-5 might not have as many powerful ones as this update.)→I think there will be a lot of silent updates because there will probably be a lot of minor bugs.◆Setting up the beta test server required me to write about as much text as a paperback book (approximately 80,000 Japanese characters), which took quite a while, so the implementation of the alternate route for 9-1 (which will be registered under a different score frame) will likely be the week after next. I’m sorry. As always, please don’t expect these announcements to be 100% accurate—just bear with us.→I plan to update the August issue of Monthly Nexus about one to two weeks…
- Notice Regarding Score Adjustments for Chapter 9-1 - 5 August 2026
◆Due to the effect of the newly implemented “Legacy” (Eternal Bottle), which has increased the achievable score on this stage, and separately because it is possible to achieve scores that are extremely high compared to other stages when playing in “True Pure” mode (without bringing items), we have decided to adjust the scores when the Unique Enemy Route is implemented (around the week after next).(The score calculation formula for this stage is the product of three factors (Level × Energy × Skill Level), so even a small difference can result in a much larger discrepancy compared to regular stages, which use the product of two factors (Level × (Stat + Weapon Stat)).For example, in the equations y = x² and z = x³, when x = 2, y is 4 and z is 8; however, when x = 3, y is 8 while z becomes 27.)→ We plan to balance the stage so that, combined with the Unique Enemy Route, players can earn rew…
- Implemented one previously unimplemented legacy effect (Tactical Tower W) - 5 August 2026
◆We have implemented the Legacy effect for Tactical Tower W, which had not been implemented previously. While its cost is very high, it has an extremely powerful effect.(This effect was adjusted two weeks before implementation, and since the icon is from that version, the icon design may be revised at some point.)◆We plan to update the remaining Legacy effects at a later date, after which the unique enemy route for Chapter 9-1 will be implemented.(Scheduled for around the first half of the week after next.)
- Fixed a bug with the unique enemy in Chapter 8-1 - 2 August 2026
◆We have fixed an issue where players could not obtain Legacy when defeating unique enemies in Chapter 8-1 (Phantom Tactical Town).(It appears this issue was present as of the update one week ago.)→If you experienced this issue, please load your save file, use the Undo command, and then defeat the unique enemy again.◆We expect to release updates for the foreseeable future, but with the exception of the implementation of Legacy and magic effects, all other fixes will generally be silent updates.(These will primarily be fixes for minor bugs. We will announce major issues, as we did this time.)
- [Bug Fix] Expanded Available Memory - 2 August 2026
◆I enabled LargeAddressAware in TacticalNexus to increase the amount of available memory. For now, we’ll monitor the situation with this change. (After releasing a test version, we received reports from players that this fixed the bug.)◆I implemented this setting on short notice this time, but since the process involves some rather tedious work, I’ll need to spend the next 2–3 days creating a process to automatically include LargeAddressAware in the program builds.(Once that’s done, I’ll implement the Eternal Bottle feature.)I’m glad I’ll finally be able to get some rest.
- [Under Investigation] Bug Where Enemy Image Data Does Not Display - 1 August 2026
Starting with recent versions, there appears to be a phenomenon occurring in some environments where enemy image data occasionally fails to display—and, strangely enough, this issue is sometimes resolved by restarting the game.Normally, this kind of issue is caused by insufficient hardware specifications, such as the GPU or memory, but it seems the same problem occurs even on systems equipped with the RTX 3080—a GPU that is far more than sufficient for playing this game.(I initially thought the Steam overlay might be the cause, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.)One possible cause is memory shortage due to the 32-bit program. We are currently focusing our efforts on addressing this issue, but there is no guarantee it will be fixed (the success rate is probably around 50%).TacticalNexus was developed using a programming language designed for much older systems, so the program is a 32-…
- Replaced the data in Chapter 9-1 - 31 July 2026
◆In accordance with the above, the data for Chapter 9-1 has been updated.◆For now, I’d like to think that the only adjustment we’ll make going forward is whether or not to change the score balance, but since it’s only been five days since Chapter 9-1 was implemented, I can’t say for certain.(Regarding the score balance, while it’s possible to achieve high scores without bringing items, currently even bringing items doesn’t result in a 3- to 4-fold increase in score. So, even if we were to make an adjustment, it would likely be something like 15m → 25m—and I’m not even sure there’s much need for it.If the unique enemy route is well-received upon implementation, we may listen to the community’s feedback and adjust the rewards so that the unique enemy route offers higher rewards and the standard route offers slightly lower ones—though at this point, I’d say the odds are about 50/50.)×The i…
- We've reverted the SolarGate settings to their original state - 31 July 2026
◆In an update a few hours ago, we added a feature—as shown in the video above—where “activating the same type of gate twice or more would pave over the gate at its previous location.” We have now removed this feature so that activating a gate no longer overwrites the original gate. Therefore, just like in previous versions, you can now place multiple gates. As a result, while there is still only one “warp destination” per gate, you can now place multiple “warp origins.”(If you’re not familiar with this feature, this explanation might seem confusing, but that’s how it works now.)◆Since the Hypergate in Chapter 6-3 (Rainbow) is designed this way by default, I thought it should be changed like this. However, as we are new to the game *Tactical Nexus* and aren’t very familiar with it, we hadn’t realized the technique that “by placing two or more Moon Gates, you can create an environment where…
- Bug Fixes for Solar Gate and Moon Gate - 30 July 2026
◆Stage adjustments haven't been made yet (I'll do them tomorrow). However, the version scheduled for the update is already in the TacticalNexus folder. (If you want to play the updated version right away, delete “wdat92(.dat)” in TacticalNexus\\tmp1\\wwdata, then rename “wdat92_next(.dat)” to “wdat92(.dat)”—it should work. Note that depending on your system, the file extension (“.dat”) may or may not be displayed, but this has no effect on functionality.)◆In 9-1, we’ve fixed a bug where selecting the command to obtain the Solar Gate or Moon Gate did not result in receiving the item.(I believe this fixes most of the Solar Gate-related bugs. If any remain, we’ll fix them via a silent patch.)
- [Sorry] Chapter 9-1 Will Be Revised Again - 30 July 2026
*The developers’ reasoning is that “since we’re building a completely new system from scratch, it’s only natural that the quality isn’t perfect yet,” but it’s equally natural for players to be dissatisfied with “levels that are constantly being reworked with every new feature implementation.”Our policy hasn’t changed, but at the same time, it’s actually abnormal that these shoddy aspects of the game haven’t been addressed.I believe players should write plenty of negative reviews about the developers’ sloppiness in this area to warn other players of the risks. Thank you for your cooperation.(We believe this game is overrated compared to other games and operators that should have a positive rating of 70–80% at best.)*There is a bug that prevents players from obtaining Solar Gates and Moon Gates under certain conditions, and we are currently investigating it.Last night, we and this stage w…
- 9-1 Game Balance Adjustments - 27 July 2026
*In this update, changes to enemy stats and skill effects are applied retroactively to past save data. While I don’t think these changes are significant enough to make the game immediately unbeatable, I get the impression that the new version is generally easier to play.(We’ve received quite a few comments from players in the community saying, “This version is more fun and easier to play.”)*The intent behind the score balance adjustments is to “ensure that no single stage stands out too much in relation to the game as a whole.”Since rewards remain unchanged unless you update your score, you can also choose to play without stepping on score tiles to keep the high rewards as they are.(During solo play, some staff members have been found to be cheating by using high-reward data from test runs, which is how we perceive this game.)◆ Fixed an issue where Omega Matock’s “Pave 2 Squares” effect…
- Adjustments will be made to Chapter 9-1 (12 hours to 2 days from now) - 27 July 2026
(Since the previous announcement log was lost, I’m reposting this as an article with an image)\◆After the data adjustments, enemy parameters and other stats will change significantly, so your Chapter 9-1 save data may become unbalanced, potentially making the game unplayable.◆If you want to keep your past data, one option is to copy your current Tactical Nexus data and launch Tactical Nexus directly from the copied folder.(The score and reward data for each stage is located in TacticalNexus\\tmp1\\wwdata\\medal. By moving this data, you can also copy your progress data, such as Nexus Medals.)◆The implementation of Legacy and magic effects will likely be around July 31. Sorry about that. ----*Starting with the next update, it’s highly likely that we’ll conduct beta testing within the community before release—at least as long as the community and development teams are getting along well.(…
- Fixed an issue where the stat boosts from “Drop of dream ocean" - 26 July 2026
Fixed an issue where the stat boosts from “Dream Sea Drops” were not taking effect.
- Preview of Chapter 9-1 Adjustments - 26 July 2026
Since we’ve received a steady stream of reports of scores ranging from +1,200 to over +2,500 within 7 hours of implementation, we plan to make significant changes to the overscore system. We’ll be adding a splash of lemon juice to these fried chicken pieces.Meanwhile, after hearing various feedback from players in the community—such as “The core gameplay is fun,” “ is too strong (though you can easily reach around +800 even without it),” and “The game gets completely chaotic in the latter half”—we are planning adjustments roughly along the following lines:◆ Change the SP in the early game to 500 or 1,000 Energy, or to actual items like or ◆ Revise the Skill Board to reduce the need for Energy Reload to some extent and increase the number of Energy Keys(This is the most critical part of the work; I feel that whether the game turns out fun or boring depends on this)◆ Increase the Crown’s s…
- Bug Fixes and Parameter Adjustments for Chapter 9-1 - 26 July 2026
◆ Fixed an issue where the Last Inflator dropped by the Crimson Clown was incorrect. This fix is applied retroactively to past save data.(You should be able to receive the update by restarting Steam.)◆ Overall, the game balance seems to be working well, but we got the impression that many players were struggling in the early stages. The number of reports of players clearing the stage—which usually comes in within 4 to 6 hours—wasn’t very high, so it seems best to address this as soon as possible.(This stage was intended to function as a “relatively easy stage.”)That said, compared to the ridiculous stages we’ve had recently, this one felt like it had a very high level of overall polish. If we were to make adjustments like “adding a pinch of lemon to the fried chicken…lol” , things would probably get out of hand, so to keep it simple and let players savor the “natural flavor” of the content…
- Map Layout Adjustments(9-1) - 26 July 2026
◆We’ve changed the “Thief Bandana (Yellow)” on the map to SP.(This change does not apply retroactively.)→We had previously removed the blue Thief Bandana from this stage because having it there caused rewards to increase about 10-fold, which caused scores to skyrocket and led to the collapse of Tactical Nexus. However, the staff didn’t realize that this would be dyed blue in Legacy mode.
- A preliminary version of Chapter 9-1 has been implemented! - 26 July 2026
*The Mystic Gate and Last Inflator devices are functional, but the effects for new Legacy items and spells have not yet been implemented (though you can still obtain them). We plan to implement these effects within a few days. Also, I’ll write a proper article as soon as we implement the Unique Enemies mentioned below.*Note: This stage is actually supposed to have a “Unique Enemy Route” with completely different strategies and game balance, but its implementation will be next week or the week after.(The programmer is supposed to spend 30–50 hours “fine-tuning the actual parameters,” but for the past two weeks, there hasn’t even been a single day where they worked less than 14 hours, so please give them a break for now.In return, this stage should be a clear improvement in both game design and quality of life compared to other stages—assuming we haven’t already lost our minds.)*Since we’ve…
- Plans for an Upcoming Update - 21 June 2026
*This post should technically be in the “News” category, but since the necessary steps—like preparing images—are a hassle, I’m posting it in the “Mini-Update” category to avoid all that tedious work.◆ We’re planning to release the Chapter 9-1 update next week. Please don’t expect the timing to be exact—just stay tuned.(The stage itself won’t have quite the same impact as 5-0, which we released last time, but I think it’s pretty fun.“With the ‘Skill Tree’ system now in place, this stage is easier to control and understand than 8-3 (Mirror).”)◆We expect the achievement feature to be implemented around the week after Chapter 9-1 goes live. Sorry about that.(We’ve asked the graphic designer to create several hundred icons.)◆After the achievement feature is implemented, the “Save Slot Change” feature is scheduled to be added.(This feature allows you to duplicate a save file using the results…
- Additional Fixes - 12 May 2026
◆Fixed an issue where behavior was abnormal when moving through portals or stairs.◆In the silent update, we implemented a feature that allows continuous movement by holding down both mouse buttons and dragging, but we completely forgot to make this a toggleable option in the settings menu.We have now set this feature to be off by default and made it toggleable in the settings menu.(Continuous movement via mouse drag currently picks up items that are set to be ignored. We plan to change this to a specification that ignores such items if we can program it properly and release a silent update, but we cannot confirm this yet.)
