- Major Update incoming - 27 January 2020
I've been pretty quiet lately; hammering away at the Story Update. During that time, some play testing has been done and I have received some feedback that I need to address. This means I'll be putting the Story Update on the back burner (sort of). To start, the world will be changing in a very significant way. Currently, Neighborhood uses a "fake open world" style where the entire region loads and you roam around it completing tasks. The issue here is that it creates a lot of empty space in a game where it really doesn't feel warranted. It also presents a limit on environments and stage types that I don't like being constrained to. So what does this mean? Neighborhood is being re-tooled to function in a more linear sense that also allows some mild exploration. Mild is the key here. Back tracking will not be an aspect of the game whatsoever. A central hub will still exist, but will be F…
- Neighborhood v0.5.7.3 - 16 December 2019
The Sofie update just went live! Let's go through all the changes! General Controls remapped - New layout places key actions on the controller face for easier access. Reduced super meter gain rate slightly Changed how NPCs are interacted with to avoid issues with players getting stuck. AI behavior altered to be more consistent Adjusted a few back end things for overall optimization Added camera shake to appropriate moves Parry mechanics altered to be more strict Sofie Added to the game! Known issues Co-op play may cause strange issues with the camera when interacting with an NPC This patch brings us one step closer to the full story update. Next up is completing Fizz, the final character after that, and then many small updates to existing characters and enemies. From there, a multitude of systems and functions need to be put in place to handle the level of story telling we are going for…
- Introducing Fizz : Neighborhood's newest character! - 29 November 2019
Fizz is number 3 of 4 in Roy's main group. Her obsessive love of soda earned her the nick name "Fizz". She fights with a hula hoop in a highly acrobatic style. She is also a fan of designer clothing which irritates Sofie to an immense degree. Fizz is currently in only the final design phases, but her play style is largely planned. She will be a close to mid-range fighter with average attack power and above average attack speed. She will be highly mobile with an expansive moveset. Expect a lot of complex strings and stances!
- Big update coming! - 24 November 2019
Hey all! I've been away for a bit as I haven't had much time to work on Neighborhood, but I have been plugging away here and there. I have a big update with a great deal of changes and fixes so let's jump right into it! New character - Sofie Sofie is a hybrid support character who excels at medium to long range. She requires effective spacing with her attacks as maximum damage can only be achieved at maximum range. She also has a few good options for burst healing as well as great offensive options. Of course, if you have no need for healing, you can simply ignore those skills and go full offense. Her damage output is below average and her attack speed can be slow, but she more than makes up for it with her extreme range. New default control layout After a great deal of testing and feedback, the default control layout is changing. Dialogue fixes All players are now locked during any NPC…
- Sofie updates! - 8 October 2019
I've managed to make little bit of progress on the newest character Sofie. First up are a few test poses to mostly test her rig out. They also help me figure out how some of her attacks may work. Finally I'm able to try some face poses as well. Next up is a quick attack animation test. This helps me see any issues with the rig. It largely is OK only needing touch ups here and there. Also this whip is super challenging to animate. Finally, here she is in game at the character select screen! She doesn't do much other than blink but it's nice to see her working in engine. Also you get to see a few of her alternate colors as well. That's all for now! Sofie is my favorite character so far. Her rig is easily the most advanced and complex in the entire cast. It's going to be a challenge, but I'm excited to move forward with her.
- New character incoming! - 27 September 2019
Here's Sofie! She's Roy's best friend and her development marks the beginning of the story update. This large update will be introducing things like the main cast, expanded sections of Verdemont Heights, voice acting, cutscenes, and more. Some of the content will be added bit by bit, but other sections will either come in large chunks or all towards the end of development. Anyways back to Sofie. She will be a somewhat of a support character with extremely long range whip attacks. Her support skills will require direct activation and will be more focused unlike Fatima's support skills. Her playstyle will require you to maintain as much distance as possible since she'll do vastly more damage at the tip of her whip. Additionally, her health and general ability to heal herself will be more limited, so careful play will be required. Finally you may have noticed a slightly different art style…
- Early access release incoming! - 22 September 2019
September 24th is coming up and that means Neighborhood will be released soon! A few quick notes about the initial release just to be aware: Since I am a one person dev team (for now), I have done my best to QA Neighborhood, but expect a few oddities here and there. I am hoping for nothing game breaking, but if something like that comes up, please let me know what happened to the best of your ability and I'll do my best to fix it. I am in the process of creating new additions to the game to add a bit more variety. Since the current version is only one "area" I am working to bring value to replayability as well as expanding the game as time goes along. I consider the first area to be complete enough to give an idea of how the game should function on a basic level. It takes me roughly 45 minutes to an hour to complete. I would expect new players to take a bit longer. Ok so the demo is sho…
