A small update arrives today mostly focused on reworking some internal systems. The main new feature is improved support for ASIO, including the ability to output directly to an Audio Interface. Full changes are as follows:Interface support for audio outputSwap audio drivers at runtime without the need for an application restartFaster application load times specifically when using ASIORefactored save/load system. This is mostly internal but does have some user benefits. Partial preset files can now be loaded, whereas previously the system was quite strict in requiring a line match for the original preset save file.Keyboard overlay type has been simplified into a dropdown in the application settings

A new update arrives today. This follows on from from last week's release of AudioTheory Piano Keys 3.0 and adds in some of the improvements developed here that are also relevant for AudioTheory Guitars. Contextual Sharp/ Flat Note Selector This one is actually an AudioTheory Guitars exclusive as it relates to the note selectors only found in this app. These have been replaced with a new standardised design that takes up less space. This is because each sharp/ flat note now dynamically updates to match the current display state for each note. As well as showing labels that are contextually relevant, the uniform button sizes now mean that when viewing diminished seventh chords, the harmonic roots (highlighted in light grey) line up! It includes two main new features that are designed to work together to give you greater control over how sharp and flat notes display.Automatic/ Manual Sharps & FlatsThere's a new dropdown in the application options that lets you select between two different sets of rules that determine how the application handles sharps and flats.Auto set based on scaleThis is the default option, and retains the existing method of automatically showing a sharp or a flat based on context. Let's have a look at what's new: Revised Keyboard Design Someone kindly pointed out that the piano keyboard had a few differences when compared to a real piano, specifically in the placement and size of the black keys. The keyboard layout has been revised to address this, and now the position and placement of the black keys has been adjusted to match a real piano with greater accuracy. I've also added in a depth effect so the black keys now look like they sit above the white keys (also to better match the look of a real piano). A new version of AudioTheory Guitars is here. It includes a few changes behind-the-scenes and a couple of new features. New Diminished 7th Chord Selector Diminished 7th Chords are symmetrical, which causes all sorts of UI related challenges when attempting to represent them in the app. The chord library previously just showed them all in a grid, but this has now been updated so that the selector matches the layout of the other chord types, whilst also accounting for the fact that each position can be viewed as 4 different chords. The root note selector now highlights multiple backgrounds, matching the functionality previously used in the smaller popup that displays below each chord in the main application view. AudioTheory Guitars 3.1.2 includes the following changes: Chords are now correctly loaded from .txt preset files that also include a scale preset The fretboard position is now slightly offset on 16:10 to account for the extra screen height. This was already in effect on the iPad version of AudioTheory Guitars, but now it's here in the desktop version too. This is to support some changes made in the last update to how relative note names display, and makes it clear what scale these labels are in reference to when the scale is modified. A new update to AudioTheory Guitars is here. This update includes a whole load of miscellaneous changes and bug fixes. Let's take a look at what's new... Relative note names Numerous changes have been made to improve how the application handles relative note name formats (Degrees, Roman numerals and movable do). These now display relative to the last selected scale, rather than the current scale. This has the effect of allowing you to subtract notes from the scale and still see the relative intervals for what's left. So for example, if you started out with C major and removed D, F, A and B then you'd be left with C, E and G, which would be labelled as 1, 3 and 5 respectively (which is useful if you're learning arpeggios!). A small update to AudioTheory Guitars arrives today. It includes the following changes: Engine upgrade Removal of the splash screen Mode labels now correctly update to major or minor Removal of the legacy binary (this helps keep the filesize down!) Please note that the removal of the legacy binary means that there's no longer the option to automatically launch the legacy version of AudioTheory Guitars (version 2.4.0 and below) through Steam. If you really, really wanted to, it's still possible to override the launch path in the game properties, but there are no benefits to doing this. If you have automatic updates turned off, and you've eluded the 3.0.0 update for the few months since its release, now is the time to upgrade!

AudioTheory Guitars 3.0.0 is here. This is the largest update for the application yet, and it adds in many new features, including support for 7 string guitars and beyond. Introducing the Fretboard Builder The fretboard component of AudioTheory Guitars has been rebuilt from the ground up, finally allowing for many requested customisations that were not previously possibly within the app. It's now possible to set the number of strings, the number of notes and the start fret, as well as the per-string start note and octave. So if you have a seven string guitar tuned to open C, you can easily configure the diagram to match. But even if you're sticking to E standard, the options to configure the size and display of the fretboard still provide a significant boost to the amount customisations you can now make. A new update is here for AudioTheory Guitars. This adds in a requested feature for the ability to change the note colours, and the application can now be customised to use any combination of colours you desire. The new .ini file Once you've updated to AudioTheory Guitars 2.4.0 then the first time you run the application it will create a new 'Data' folder inside the application's directory folder. The easiest way to get to this is to then right click on the app in your Steam library and select 'Manage --> Browse Local Files'. If you're on a Mac the location of the folder is a little different and it can be found in the Application Support folder.
