- Dinodrifters News - #4: Upon New Shores - 11 June 2020
Hello, travellers of time and space! Since the last news update, there have been several sub-updates - these were entirely focused on making bug-fixes to the Story Mode campaign, however, the content meat is yet to come. It's been a while, but now it's time to discuss the upcoming v1.3.0 update to Dinodrifters. Firstly, the v1.3.0 update will address some vital bugs that have been reported to me - the biggest one, the occasional crash at game start, will be addressed. I know what the issue is and it's close to being fixed - I ask only for a little more time to get this out there and working well. As for gameplay features, there will be some tasty new content in v1.3.0. The most exciting of which are the two new maps to play on! One is Cuddie Springs of Australia, 0.04 mya. It'll be a mammal-focused map featuring unique megafauna and geological traps. It's shaping up to be quite an inter…
- Dinodrifters News - #3: Beyond Boundaries - 23 February 2020
Nos da, drifters! Or bore da, if it's sun-up where you are! The new v1.2.0 update is out! Coming with over 100 new animals, a whole new area to explore and over 50 playable species, I hope you have fun with the new stuff! I know I had fun making it! It comes with a few bug fixes too. See the changelog in the update itself for the full details. For note, the new map, as will any future maps, be purple on the Time Select screen, to denote its post-release/update status. Today, I'd like to talk about what I plan to do next. I've mentioned in previous posts that I'm working on a free game to come this year. That game is called Missy's Transformation Tournament. As of writing this, the plan is for it to release on Steam around May. It's systems are based on Dinodrifters', but the premise and gameplay are altogether different. Whilst developing Missy's Transformation Tournament, I've expanded…

- Dinodrifters News - #2: Life of the Judith River Formation - 7 February 2020
Hey, paleo buffs! Work is underway on the v1.2.0 update to Dinodrifters! Today, I'd like to go over what precisely will come when the new Judith River Formation gatemark comes. Like all of the regions, it will be playable in both Story and Free Mode. The map will be coastal, with the start of the North American inland sea to the west. The region will be volcanic, with several peaks across the map, with a high chance of eruptions occurring (like in Hell Creek). In-between volcanoes lie rivers with strips of green following the waterside. This is where most of the wildlife will live. The current list of planned dinosaurs (more may be added during development) are: Dromaeosaurus Hesperonychus Latenivenatrix Troodon Richardoestesia Saurornitholestes Stenonychosaurus Daspletosaurus Gorgosaurus Albertavenator Albertonykus Apatoraptor Atrociraptor Epichirostenotes Albertosaurus Rativates Dromi…
- Dinodrifters News - #1: Next Year Forward - 6 January 2020
Happy New Year everyone! I hope you've had a good time since the last update! I had a great end of 2019; here's to 2020 being even better. Now, though, it is time to return to regular development. I'd like to talk about the plan for the upcoming February update to Dinodrifters. It will be v1.2.0. and will come with a lot of new content not seen yet in the base game. While this is subject to change as development goes forward, I feel comfortable in telling you what to expect next month. v1.2.0. will feature: A new region based on the Judith River Formation of Alberta, North America , as well as several contemporary adjacent sources. This new region will have new terrain, landscapes and features to explore! Dozens of new animal species to inhabit the new region, featuring Dromaeosaurus, Albertosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Corythosaurus and Deinosuchus! The total amount will be no less than 40…
- Dinodrifters Early Access News - Week #4: v1.1.0 Update - 16 December 2019
Merry Christmas! The first big update to Dinodrifters is here! First of all, we are leaving Early Access on December 21st, so this version is the release version. I was going to wait to release it later, but I worked ahead of schedule and wanted to share it with you all. I've finished Time Anomalies! They're a brand new feature that I have previously said would come in January, but I've moved it forward. I underestimated how quickly I would have it done, basically, so you get the release and January update in one! This version is called v.1.1.0 and will update automatically based on your Steam preferences. v1.1.0 Changelog: - Added Time Anomalies, portals through time that allow you and other animals to travel one-way between two different maps. When toggled at game start, an anomaly can only spawn when the player is an adult and has a 1% probability of doing so per turn. Anomalies will…
- Dinodrifters Early Access News - Week #3: Time Anomalies - 9 December 2019
Another week down and just one more to go until we leave Early Access! What a ride! Today, I want to talk about an upcoming feature that will come in January, after we leave Early Access. I want to talk about Time Anomalies. Anomalies are portals through time and space that connect two different regions to one another. Their appearance is strange. Maybe they are related to the travellers in time, the Dinodrifters, operating the Timegate in the Quaternary? To put it simply, they will appear in Free Mode and allow you to travel from your starting region to a new one in another time. Think of it as a fresh start. Not enjoying playing a Velociraptor in the Flaming Cliffs? Maybe move to the region through the anomaly! In addition to the player, Time Anomalies will allow creatures, based on its destination region, to travel from the other side and enter your time. Mammoths can appear in the T…
- Dinodrifters Early Access News - Week #2: Out of the Past, Into the Future - 2 December 2019
Hope you're all having a blast playing Dinodrifters! This week, I want to talk specifically about leaving Early Access. From the feedback I've received, no game-breaking or otherwise massive bugs have been found. Yay! However, I have identified several pieces of code and some oddities that will be corrected next update. They're mostly little things, like text slightly misaligned in some screens, a slight change in saving mechanics, that sort of thing. Your old saves will work fine, though, don't worry! The advantage of making your own save system is that you can definitely say what will break it. This will not! However, all that being said, I see no reason to stay in Early Access for much longer. I did so because a release of this scale is so new to me that I felt I needed some leeway regarding possible bugs and whatnot. Well, that was overcautiousness on my part! As a result, Dinodrift…
- Dinodrifters Early Access News - Week #1: The Road Ahead - 25 November 2019
Hello all you newly joined Dinodrifters out there! Welcome to the first newsletter of Dinodrifters' Early Access period. So much has happened in this last week! The amount of interest Dinodrifters has attained has warmed my heart greatly. However, this is only the beginning! Dinodrifters is going to receiving an update in December fixing the known bugs that have since been identified. Once that is done, as long as no other surprises are brought to light, then Dinodrifters is going to release fully in December, just before Christmas, hopefully. Further down the road, I plan to add several new areas/regions in the game based on further fossil sites. While this is subject to change, my current plan is to add the Judith River Formation, home of Parasaurolophus and Albertosaurus, as a playable map and add a new gameplay feature: time anomalies. Time anomalies are portals that can randomly sp…
- Dinodrifters Early Access Launch - 12 November 2019
On the 18th of November 2019, Dinodrifters will launch into Early Access. This is a special time in development, for in the coming month, players will be able to influence the features and mechanics of Dinodrifters through feedback and reporting. From fixes to tweaks to full-on new features - all goes well, Dinodrifters is going to grow. I've been developing Dinodrifters for a long time. For most of that, it has just been me and whoever is nearby to judge the game. I've done my best to clean out bugs and make sure both Story and Free Mode are as fun and playable as possible. However, the scope and ambition of Dinodrifters is vast and it is possible some got through. That's where you come in! During Early Access, players who own a copy of Dinodrifters will be able to make suggestions on things to add into the game. Note that once the Early Access phase is over, whilst suggestions can be…
