- 2021 Major Update and Sunday Group Play Event - 10 December 2021
A new update for 2021 has been released in the past week. A fun playthrough by Waterflame and pftq can be watched below showing much of the new changes. We'll also have a group play session this coming Sunday at 2PM PT for people to explore the map together and battle it out in Zero-G again. Join us online if you can or feel free to watch in the livestream (Twitch.tv/VRJetpackGame) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mZM1NdzQTg The major changes include the menus, tutorial dome, boost rings, and generally the map feels much bigger and more open now. A full list is below: - Added tutorial dome with AI voice guide by Waterflame as the starting point. - Redesigned ground-level to be broken up and more open. Removed city/cliffs for more openness. - Restored large floating island with clouds/waterfall from earlier version of game. - Lifted max-height of flying to space-station level. - Added cl…
- VR Jetpack Christmas - 24 December 2020
Happy holidays everyone! Special thanks to Tarun Sharma for the modeling and Waterflame for the voice.
- Weekly Group Events Moved to Saturday 5PM PT - 11 September 2020
On request, we will be shifting the weekly group meetings to Saturday 5PM PT. This will be recurring each week, so feel free to drop in on any Saturday. As usual, we'll start the first few minutes in the regular spawn area of the map before going above the tower to fight in the Zero-G arena. If you arrive late and already see us already fighting there, just hit Z on the keyboard to join us.
- Sep.4 5PM PT Weekly Group Battle - 2 September 2020
We'll be having our weekly group battle as usual Friday 5PM PT. We will start out in normal play to chat and fly around a bit before going up to the Zero-G arena. You can hit Z if you join late and already see us up there. No updates to the game this week. I'm currently working on making the mech's arms controllable, so that takes a bit longer. It'll be worth it though to see this finally move properly.
- Aug.28 5PM PT Group Event and Black Hole - 24 August 2020
Next in-game group event will be on Friday again at 5PM PT. This next one will lean more towards the exploration side of the game for reasons that will become obvious, so make sure to start at the default spawn location (don't hit Z), unless you're late and see us already in space on the livestream. As usual, come by to meet new players, VR or not. A hint on what's being added at the end of the week:
- Aug.21 5PM PT Group Event and Updated Tower - 16 August 2020
Next group game session will be Friday, August 21 5PM PT. We will try to make this a regular weekly time. Come by to meet other players as well as battle it out in ranked Zero-G. We will start at the normal multiplayer spawn point (press ) first before climbing up the tower together. Those who join late and see us already fighting above the tower can hit to jump to the Zero-G arena. The next game update being worked on will be further development of the tower. Below is some work in progress so far: https://youtu.be/bvw2mjMf3PI The end-goal is to eventually have that part of the map look something like this sketch by Kanehira: https://twitter.com/k_kanehira/status/1126327745737138176
- New Castle Grounds Area - 14 August 2020
A new castle grounds area is added to the map in time for our group game session today at 5PM PT. Join us to explore it together before we head up to the Zero-G arena for ranked battle. If you arrive late and already see us fighting above the tower, you can hit Z on the keyboard to teleport there. A video preview of what to expect below: https://youtu.be/_XtO3Cicsfs Note: Castle area is still being optimized and might have bugs as well (please report them). If you are sensitive to framerate below 90, avoid going towards it for now and either fly over or around it.
- Watch Online and Player Stats - 10 August 2020
New Watch Online page on the official website lets you see a live stream of players currently online and their stats. Also lets you know when people are battling in Zero-G. Good way to know when to jump on or spectate others fighting. https://www.vrjetpackgame.com/online/
- Aug.7 5PM PT Free-for-All and ELO Ladder Now Online - 6 August 2020
The Zero-G ladder is now up at https://vrjetpackgame.com/ladder/ . Games played at the Zero-G arena above the tower automatically get recorded and calculated for rankings. We'll gradually keep building on this to show player and match history as well. Tomorrow (Aug.7) at 5PM PT is also another in-game session hosted by Waterflame and pftq. We'll be meeting at the Zero-G arena itself (you can press Z or controller trigger at the startup menu to spawn there). Come join us to get matches in and meet new players. Both VR and non-VR players are welcome. There will also be a few surprise features/abilities added to the game geared towards team combat. Some of them will be downright goofy but fun to use. Expect to see them in the battles tomorrow.
- Performance Improvements and Starting at Zero-G - 1 August 2020
Latest build just released should give a nice bump up to framerate. On an RTX 2060, I'm able to keep near 90 FPS most parts of the map (the city being the main exception as it has the most detail and is hard to optimize). Anything above the tower should easily stay at 90 FPS and has been that way even before this update (because there are no clouds / rocks / terrain up there). Gameplay-wise, you can also now start at the Zero-G arena by hitting Z at the server select menu. Just be sure you have your flying and swinging skills mastered, as other players there will be battling for rank and likely have no mercy. :P Speaking of which, we will be starting our weekly group meetup at the Zero-G arena in a few minutes for those who want to join and battle with a bunch of players. After that, we'll also enter the new wormhole that takes you to outerspace to battle an enemy fleet. As always, feel…
- Outer Space - 29 July 2020
Latest addition to the game. A bit of callback to Interstellar. More to come now that this door (or wormhole) has been opened (including, yes, a black hole). For a tip of how to get to the new location, this quote from the movie is applicable in a pretty silly way: "Newton's third law – the only way humans have ever figured out of getting somewhere is to leave something behind." https://youtu.be/mLeAJ3XlX4Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iJAU3NVBSg As a reminder, we'll be having another in-game group meetup on Aug.1 2PM PT, hosted by Waterflame and pftq. Join us to check out new updates to the map such as this one or just meet and battle with other players. We'll keep these weekly organized sessions going, so it's easier to be online at the same time as other people in the game.
- Highlights From First Ranked Battle + Next Event Aug.1 2PM PT - 27 July 2020
Battles fought in the Zero-G arena are now ranked. Below are highlights from the first ranked ELO battle yesterday. You can now also start directly in the Zero-G arena to challenge other players after reaching it at least once (that will unlock a new start up prompt). Next organized group event will be Aug.1 2PM PT, with the usual new weekly updates and group battles hosted by Waterflame and pftq. But feel free to start challenging players yourself if you see anyone on livestream (or just hang out in the Zero-G arena and see if someone spots you on cam). https://youtu.be/VK-9bVi39-A
- Jul.26 2PM PT ELO Ranking System Goes Online - 26 July 2020
1 more hour until the ELO ranking system goes online. Feel free to join us VR or not (you can watch on Twitch / Steam broadcast) as we try it out. Should be fun to see how savage things get once scoring is involved. Note: Multiplayer server will be down for this update for the next half hour or so, so check back nearer the event launch.
- Jul.26 2PM PT Zero-G Arena Ranking / Elimination - 20 July 2020
The next in-game event will be on Jul.26 2PM PT. Waterflame and pftq will be there as usual to introduce new weekly updates and features to the game. We'll be expanding on the new elimination / ring-out feature in the Zero-G arena with an ELO / ranking system based on players you defeat. Below is footage from the last in-game event on the 19th trying out the elimination feature for the first time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYEhvUH1k7I&feature=youtu.be
- Jul.19 2PM PT - Next In-Game Event - 15 July 2020
Next in-game meet with pftq and Waterflame will be on Jul.19 2pm PT. Check out new weekly updates to the game, fly and battle with other players, or just chat and explore as a group. See below for highlights from last time on Jul.12 with the new city environment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6R9CUdEjOVE
- Jul.12 2pm PT Next In-Game Event - 9 July 2020
Next scheduled event will be this Sunday Jul.12 2pm PT - some familiar older abilities will return (hint: laser sword). Come by to fly, swing, battle, or just chat with other players while in the air. This is a way to get as many players as we can online at the same time until there is enough people at all times through the week. Check out the recorded stream below for an idea of how things went last time on Jul.7:
- Jul.7 5pm PT - New Zero-G Arena - 6 July 2020
Join us Jul.7 5pm PT to explore the new Zero-G area w/ pftq and Waterflame! Some players already discovering it now and battling it out. Let's see how many we can get in one chaotic free-for-all, live-streamed on Steam and Twitch as usual.
- July 1 5PM PT Early Access Release - 29 June 2020
Join us in VR (or non-VR!) Jul.1 5pm PT on the US server as we move from demo to early access. Waterflame and pftq will be there to battle and answer questions. Player names, voice chat, and limited non-VR play will be in the update. All players will be live-streamed here and on Twitch as usual.
- VR Jetpack Game Livestream - 16 June 2020
All players are live-streamed. Watch other VR players fly and interact in real-time. If the broadcast is not showing, try going here directly: https://steamcommunity.com/broadcast/watch/76561198903157720
- Steam Festival Demo - 16 June 2020
Demo is out for the Steam Game Festival from Jun 16-22. The map is still work-in-progress, but it should be enough to get a feel for how the mechanics work - flying, swinging, etc. For now, multiplayer is only up for US/Europe (and Europe only certain times, check Discord below). If a server is not up in your location, you're welcome to try and join the US one, but do so at your own risk and likely heavy lag (just physical limitation of how fast data can go across the world). Single-player mode is always available though if you just want to get the feel of flying. There's a Discord channel for voice-chat in game as a temporary solution until in-game chat is done. We'll also post updates (such as server availability) there and answer questions. Those without VR can watch players on Twitch or join the game to watch in spectator mode. Links to everything (Discord, Twitch, etc) can be found…
