Former Dragon Age series producer Mark Darrah has shared his tuppence worth on the likelihood of BioWare and EA ever commissioning a full-on original Dragon Age trilogy remaster or remake. He thinks such a remastering or remakering would sell pretty well, not least because OG Dragon Age looks like a toilet bowl in a Silent Hill game (I exaggerate the sentiments here slightly). But he also thinks the odds of such a project are low, for the straightforward reason that nobody either inside or outside BioWare really understands the proprietary technology those older RPGs run on. Back before the mighty Baldur's Gate 3 took over the world, it was Dragon Age: Origins that really opened my heart to the old-school fantasy RPG. Set against the much more modern-feeling Mass Effect, Bioware very deliberately built something that appealed to the classic CRPG crowd. While every entry in the series has its fans, DAO is still my personal favorite, and I'd love to see it make a comeback. Unfortunately, Bioware legend Mark Darrah (who worked as executive producer on the first three Dragon Age games) claims that, while such an idea was pitched by the studio, publisher EA wasn't willing to provide the funding needed to make it happen. Despite Dragon Age Inquisition dropping nearly a decade ago, fans of the famous BioWare franchise are still playing the game and circulating various mods for it online. The third-person fantasy RPG captivated fans during the early days of the Xbox One & PlayStation 4 console era. Although the game received rave reviews at the time of launch, players have never necessarily grown warmer to some of the gameplay elements of the third installment in the series. As someone who is helplessly in love with all things high fantasy, there are a few RPGs I class as my favorite videogames of all time. From the grassy fields of Fable's Albion, to the sprawling plains of World of Warcraft's Azeroth, there are myriad adventures that have shaped my life, but none more so than Dragon Age: Inquisition - which is currently free on the Epic Games Store. Dragon Age Inquisition and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic developer David Gaider, whose credits also include Baldur's Gate and Anthem, discusses videogame writing and says that BioWare "turned" into a company that "quietly resented" its writers. Spoiler warnings for Mass Effect 2. I'm not sure why I liked Kelly Chambers so much. There's definitely more exciting characters in Mass Effect 2. She was just cool is all. They seemed so good together, her and my Shepherd, two straight-talking women on a ship full of neverending melodrama, quipping back and forth along the bridge. But I was trapped in a loveless relationship with the odiously boring Kaidan Alenko. So Kelly remained elusive: the steadfast second in command, a constant source of warmth, good sense and pragmatic kindness. Anyway, she melted. In fact, most of my crew died in that final mission, but Kelly was the first, melting down into flesh chowder in a giant frosted glass tube. Afterwards I read that the only way to save everyone was to max out your relationship stats, upgrade your ship to the nth degree, and hightail it over to the suicide mission the moment you can. R…

This piece contains major spoilers for the Dragon Age series, particularly Inquisition. "It's time for a new hero..." Those are the first words spoken by recurring Dragon Age companion Varric Tethras after the BioWare logo disappears in the most recent trailer for the new Dragon Age game trailer. But Varric and BioWare are wrong, Dragon Age doesn't need a new hero; the Inquisitor's story has not yet been fully told, and they offer BioWare the chance to give gaming exactly the sort of character it needs: a powerful, disabled protagonist. In a nice surprise during Gamescom Opening Night Live, BioWare has shown off our best look yet at the next Dragon Age game. While we still don't have an official title, we got several snippets of in-game footage showing beautiful new magic-infused environments and at least one large new city. Could this all be set within Tevinter Imperium, as previous teases have suggested? We also got what looked like our first peek at some of the game's main characters (and presumably, party members?), named as Davrin and Bellara. One piece of concept art showed an underwater scene with what looked like the mustachioed Dorian - a character many hoped would return from Dragon Age Inquisition - as well as someone who looks a lot like Dragon Age 2's Isabella. There wasn't much for BioWare fans in tonight's EA Play stream, save for the briefest of glimpses at some new Dragon Age locations running on next-gen consoles. Featured in EA's quick showreel of next-gen projects, BioWare's snippet was quite clearly Dragon Age related. One shot is of a gnarled tree in a snowy environment, its base surrounded by what look like offering jars. Read more

EA has released a wave of its games on Steam - and promised more are to come. Games now on Valve's platform include BioWare's fantasy role-playing games Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition, Need for Speed Heat, Rivals and Need for Speed (2016), as well as Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville. These games and others will be available as part of an EA Access subscription on Steam that launches this summer, EA said. Read more
