- Utopia Colony - Update - 30 August 2026
Utopia Colony has got an update! The Rua 51 depleted and abandoned mine is now just a over-sized shelter for times of solar flares or high radiation events. Until now, there was little information about the history of the mine and what occurred there in the past. Well, there is no need to wonder anymore. We have made cut-scene videos that offer a log recording from the last resident, Lt Joaquin Rodriguez, who stayed there, alone, for quite some time to mine deuterium ore. Check it out, he has quite a story to tell of an incident that happened at Utopia Colony. We have also added cut-scenes for the mining rig deployments: Stay tuned! We are currently working on adding more story!.. We hope to see you on Mars!

Utopia Colony is now in full release! After over 6 years of work and 30 updates, we are excited to announce that we now have reached the end of our Early Access journey for Utopia Colony. We have made a screenshot collage below: ːsteamhappyːWe wish to say thanks to everyone who have contributed with input. It has helped us a lot to understand what Utopia Colony should comprise... We were surprised at how many contributed input, and how many directions everyone wished to take the game. It was a lot of difficult choices to be made, but we decided to stay true to our initial vision of trying to make Utopia Colony a relatively realistic representation of how it might actually be to be a miner on Mars in the near future... We feel this is what makes Utopia Colony a truly unique game... Although this implies that the game is not very exciting -- yes, it cannot not be super exciting to be a min…

Utopia Colony has got an update! Mars is a hazardous place to operate. There is now a crashed spaceship in the Utopia Basin plains. It is unknown what happened to the crew, hopefully they made it ok. One have to be very careful when one operates equipment on Mars. If something malfunctions and breaks, you cannot simply call out for help and expect to get assistance -- there may not be anyone that get the emergency message, and even if they do, there may not be anything they can do to help. So, always make sure to take extra care of the equipment and machinery to make sure it doesn't malfunction or break. We have also added a new music soundtrack. The new music soundtrack is a 2 minutes long cheerful music piece that is consistent with the Utopia Colony music. A goal with the music is to match the eery and very different atmosphere of Mars. We hope you enjoy it! We hope to see you on Mar…

Utopia Colony has got an update! We have expanded the Utopia Planitia basin area with a new large distant area: Known only as Sector 7, this area has been found to have valuable ore deposits that can be mined. You'll need a Hopper to get there. Upgrade your main base to the highest level and then you will be able to get a Hopper rocket. Check it out: A fuel consuming beast to be sure, but going forward this piece of hardware will be essential for going to the many new Utopia Planitia areas we will be expanding into. Utopia Planitia is a huge area. With a diameter of 3300 km (i.e., 2050 miles), it is the largest know impact basin in the Solar System. Endless places to scan and mine for ore. Just don't get lost in the "Nowhere Plains". Also, check out the music.. We have added 4 new tunes in this update! Please let us know what you think about these updates in the Steam Community Hub... Utopia Colony has got an update! We have added more sound effects, improved animations, and improved the loading process. These are a few updates to make the game experience better, based on feedback from players. Going forward, we have decided to co-develop Utopia Colony with another game we recently launched in Early Access on Steam, called Belt Colony. Co-developing the games is a new strategy or way of thinking, that we are excited about. We think it may help us to develop, and understand, the games from a broader perspective than if we simply develop them one-by-one.. Currently, Utopia Colony and Belt Colony have a similar set of features, concepts, background stories, etc., but, the main content (e.g. 3D models), etc. are different. This is a part of the plan going forward... Different ways of mining, for example, could be used in both games, even though 3D models, etc., are diffe…

She can help you with any medical issues you may experience on Mars. Dr. Chen is also a friend you can talk to if you feel lonely, feel stressed, etc. Drop by any time you like. We have also added more texting for the voice messages in the game. It is no longer necessary to listen to the voice continuously. The texting will provide all important information. Stay tuned. - Utopia Colony - Update - 13 October 2021
Utopia Colony has got an update! We have added a new building for the main base area. The Atmospheric Extractor building is quite big. Its seven story height makes it a towering construction. The ground floor has storage tanks and a UI that can be used to refine vapor gas into refined HyCarb or water. Take the elevator to the top of the building. This is where you will find the UI for activating the vapor collector. Large fins will spin rapidly and collect vapor from the atmosphere. The vapor collector requires a lot of power, so you have to ensure that power levels are sufficient before activating it. Also, make sure to look out for dust storms. Dust storms can do damage to the collector fins and intake nozzles. We have also made several minor improvements. There have been reports of buildings not being fixed to the locations they were placed. We have now found and fixed these issues.…

Utopia Colony has got an update! We have added new animations. When placing an extractor, we now show a construction animation that shows the character working on a scaffolding before the extractor is shown. We have also added dust to the rock gathering animation. We think these animations will improve the user experience and provide a more immersive Mars experience. We have also made improvements to the terrain. There were a few very small/subtle gaps in the terrain in certain places. We have now fixed the terrains by removing these gaps. Further, we have made improvements to the controls. A few users reported an issue that the world would spin if certain USB devices were connected to the computer. We have fixed this by detecting such device inputs and adjusting for them. Stay tuned. More improvements are coming. We hope to see you on Mars! Trailer video: https://youtube.com/watch?v=-c…
- Utopia Colony - Update - 11 June 2021
Utopia Colony has got an update! We have added a Vehicle Facility to Utopia Colony. A Vehicle Facility is necessary for upgrading the rovers with more engine power and storage space. A powerful engine enables you in traversing the big plains on Mars at a faster pace. Spend more time on exploration and mining, and less time on driving. Rovers have a limited storage space now. Upgrade the storage space to be able to haul more ore, and get fewer round trips. Here are a few screenshots: We have made other improvements as well... We got feedback on the refineries that it was not so easy to understand what resources were needed. We have added some helpful information to the user interfaces in the refineries. We also got feedback that it was a bit hard to place an outpost, so we have made a few improvements to that as well. Research task had a few bugs that are now fixed. The Outpost UI had bu…

Utopia Colony has got an update! Utopia Colony now supports buying and placing an Outpost. The Outpost can be acquired as soon as you have got a Carryall Rover. The Outpost is initially put on the flatbed Carryall Rover and must be hauled out to a location where you would like to place it. Press the E key when driving the rover to deploy the Outpost. Once deployed, you can enter the Outpost to purchase extractors and other upgrades. There is no longer a need to drive all the way back to the main base for such things. When you are finished with a location, it is a simple matter to disassemble the Outpost and load it back up on the Carryall Rover where you can haul it out to a different location. Stay tuned. More improvements are coming. We hope to see you on Mars! Trailer video: https://youtube.com/watch?v=-csQma_q5L0 This is an Early Access game and we are interested in players joining…

Utopia Colony has got an update! Utopia Colony now supports placeable base buildings. When you buy a building that can be placed in any location, you will now see an above the base view of the placeable area. Drag & drop the building to the place you would like it to be, rotate it, and click finish. The terrain is automatically dug out to fit the newly placed building. If you are not happy with the placement, don't worry, you can move all building when the placing mode is active, and you can also move the buildings at any time later (for some credits). The pic above shows how your base can look with some of the placeable buildings we currently support: Greenhouse -- produces vegetables, fruits, etc. Storage -- stores ore, volatiles, etc. Metal refinery -- refines metal ore Composites refinery -- refines composites We have also added some other improvements: Recover rovers -- Got your ro…
- Utopia Colony - Update - 21 March 2021
Utopia Colony has got an update! You can now add a basement to the main base. The basement holds a moderately powerful fusion reactor capable of powering the station and more. A fusion reactor is a new piece of technology in 2033. A set of closely regulated high energy antimatter particle beams are used to generate the conditions that are used to enable fusion reactions. The terrain has also been improved with more landscaping rocks. These rocks are aesthetics to make the landscape look more realistic. These rocks cannot be mined. You will find these rocks spread out in the terrain and they make nice places for a little sightseeing. We have also made a few more improvements to the game: The settings now has invert Y for user input. The running speed has been slightly reduced in the main base. The jumping factor has been reduced in the main base to avoid hitting the ceiling when jumping.…

Utopia Colony has got an update! Utopia Colony has reached a milestone! The game has now been accepted by Steam as a game that has a broad reach. We have therefore been invited to make trading cards, badges and points shop items. We are happy to report that Utopia Colony is now giving out trading cards as you play the game. We set the give out rate to one card per 20 minutes (but it is Steam that actually controls all the details). You have to collect 10 trading cards to be able to craft a badge. Steam will give you half of the cards from playing the game. The other half, you have to trade to get. Alternatively, you can sell your cards (for real money) in the Steam marketplace. If you have already played the game for more than 20 minutes, then you should have received cards from Steam now. Please check your profile inventory. Keep playing and earn trading cards. We hope to see you on Ma…

Utopia Colony has got an update! Need to haul big loads? No problem. There is now a Carryall Rover available for purchase, if you've got the credits... Hauling mining rigs, research equipment, etc., is no longer any problem. No need to ask for help from the colonies, you can now do it all yourself. The Carryall Rover, a 3 ton, flat bed, six wheeler is what you need, in addition to the smaller but faster Explorer Rover. You've got to check this one out. Running out of rocks to mine? We have added deployable Rock Extractors. There is an area, not far from the base, that is suitable for rock extraction mining. Deploy Rock Extractors and get a steady supply of rock ore that can be mined. We think Rock Extractors is a valuable addition to the gameplay experience. We have got requests for more dust. Well we decided to really turn it up. Look around and you'll see tiny particles of dust whirli…
