Hi Chess fans!It's been a little while since we last shared an update on the progress of An Elaborate History of Chess, so please read on for a summary of what we've been up to recently. There are spoilers ahead, so if you want to go into the game blind be careful what you see!Development of An Elaborate History of Chess is now (more or less) systems complete. Our main outstanding task before release is content generation, and making sure that there's enough variety and depth in the game through the main storyline.We have six major dungeons to complete before the anticipated release of the game, and we're hard at work making sure that each dungeon is full of challenging combat, tricky puzzles, and unique bosses and mechanics.The first major dungeon is now complete! You may have already seen, but we’re delighted to be taking part in this year’s #TurnBasedThursday Fest, and to celebrate, we’re super excited to be releasing a significant overhaul of the An Elaborate History of Chess demo experience! We don’t want to spoil all the fun changes, but a few headliners include: Updated Demo Flow We’ve significantly re-worked the demo flow, so that the gameplay is more evenly paced and so that you can see more of what the game has to offer more quickly. New Piece Controls We’ve moved some unlockable upgrades that were originally planned for later in the game to earlier so that they’re now part of the demo. These new controls are aimed at making moving pieces en masse easier. Widescreen Support We’ve added support for widescreen displays, and also now allow window resizing if you want to play at a custom resolution. Piece Balancing We’ve revis…
- Demo Now Available! - 17 February 2025
Hi Chess fans! We're really excited to announce that a free demo for An Elaborate History of Chess is available on Steam right now! The demo allows you to play through the first few hours of the game, experiencing the real-time strategy overworld and, if you progress far enough, a turn-based puzzle dungeon. You'll have the chance to try out farming, promoting pieces, building castles, and checkmating a tree. Please note that the demo represents a game in development, and there are a few things that we hope to be able to include in the full version that are not in the demo: The demo is only available in English. The demo does not support controllers. The demo doesn't work as well on Steam Deck as we hope the full game will.
