  • Version 1.1.20: New classes, cross-path skills, speed improvements, and more! - 14 September 2026

Greetings, tactics fans! It's been a few months since our last update, but the wait is over!As a certain SRPG juggernaut with an odd (one might say unbeWeaveable) amount of overlap* with TIB bears down on us, the time seems right to drop some goodies for those of us presently without the means to acquire a Switch 2.Together in Battle may not have Functionally Infinite Gacha Money behind it, but it does still have some things that Fortune's Weave does not: deeply customizable shareable characters, a dynamic social sim layer, elevation mechanics, multiplayer, roguelike mode, a campaign editor, and now......three (3) new lissit classes!Yes, you read that correctly! I heard some folks out there were hankering for more lissit class options, and so I spent weeks designing and hiring artists to expand things some more for our scaly friends. The result: a new whip-wielding class, the Wachikit,…

  • Version 1.1.12 - 10 July 2026

A small patch today! This adds a long-awaited UI nicety, adds a couple of new customizable dialogue lines, and fixes some bugs: UI improvement: health bars, energy bars, experience bars, morale bars, and the icons within targeting reticles now appear on top of 3D objects and level geometry. (Some of Unity's limitations made this much, much harder to implement than it should have been.) added Teach and Teach Response lines to the selection of dialogue lines customizable in the custom character creator. fixed: in the custom character creator, upon reloading a previously saved custom character, proc gen dialogue could invisibly attach itself to the character and end up getting saved despite not appearing in the dialogue editor subwindow. fixed: in Multiplayer Arena, the wins screen was not reflecting the current name of each team, only the team's default name. fixed: animated morale bars w…

  • Version 1.1.11 - 30 May 2026

Just a small update here with a few new character traits and a couple of AI improvements! AI improvement: fixed the code that was causing enemies to sometimes move multiple times before attacking or ending their turn, which often made enemy turns last longer than necessary.AI improvement: on its highest setting, the AI now takes into account tags that let a character act again after a skill that ordinarily ends the turn. This makes the AI much more likely to use multiple skills per turn when controlling promoted enemies and allies.new physical trait: Swift. The character gets +1 to Speed. Lissit only.new physical trait: Hard Scales. The character gets +25 to Slash resistance. Lissit only.new physical trait: Oblivious. The character gets -2 to Reflexes.UI improvement in version 1.1.11a: when pressing the Create Log button in the Report an Issue window, it now tells you where the log file…

  • Happy Launch-iversary (and version 1.1.10)! - 6 May 2026

Greetings, tactics fans! It may be hard to believe, but I launched Together in Battle to version 1.0 exactly one year ago today. To celebrate the game's one year anniversary outside of Early Access, I put together a little "laurels" trailer cramming together some of my favorite clips from reviews so far (these are obviously edited to keep it under 5 minutes--make sure to watch the full reviews, they're great! 1 2 3 4 5 6)In the months since, I've pushed regular free updates with balance improvements, loads of UI improvements, AI improvements, new save game logic, New Game Plus, Multiplayer Arena mode, new items, new promotions, a new weapon type, new dialogue, expanded character portrait options, custom character sharing, campaign editor improvements, and--of course--one gazillion bug fixes. It feels good to sit back and see how far the game has come, but I'm not done yet. I also want to…

  • Version 1.1.01 - 26 March 2026

Some minor fixes and improvements here, plus a nice new UI feature: UI improvement: when mousing over a skill target, the game now displays a health bar at the bottom of their targeting reticle with the proportion of health they stand to lose (or gain) flashing in white! UI improvement: when mousing over a skill target that can counterattack, a health bar will be displayed beneath the attacker showing with the proportion of health they stand to lose (or gain) from the counterattack flashing in white. UI improvement: when mousing over a knockback target, a health bar is now also displayed for any unit they're going to be knocked into with their own proportion of health to be lost flashing in white. UI improvement: in-battle unit tooltips for characters on the leftmost 1/3rd of the screen now appear to the left of the unit so as to avoid covering the area the player is focused on. free mo…

  • Version 1.1: Multiplayer Arena, better UI, free exploration mode, and more! - 19 March 2026

Greetings, tactics fans! It's been a little while since I pushed a real update, hasn't it? If you were the worrying sort, you might even have started to suspect that I'd stopped working on Together in Battle. But as Cher Horowitz, protagonist of the classic 90s film Clueless might say: as if!No, friends--after months of relative silence, I come to you with a major update to Together in Battle. There's a whole lot to talk about here and I'm already tempting the carpal tunnel gods as it is, so let's get right into it!First, we have a new game mode!New unlockable game mode: Multiplayer Arena! Upon reaching the Monkey League Qualifier in the main campaign, the game will unlock a new, built-in play mode called Multiplayer Arena, selectable as a campaign within the New Game menu of the title screen.Multiplayer Arena lets you assemble small teams of custom characters, name them, customize thei…

  • A small update! - 18 January 2026

Hi all! This is a small update to fix an obscure bug and--since I was fixing a bug anyway--to also make a small improvement to gamepad controls while in the shop interface. This brings the game up to version 1.0.58.Here are the changes: UI improvement: when in the shop, you can now move the gamepad cursor over the army overview, calendar, deck, and options buttons.fixed: in rare circumstances, it was possible to end up with a MovePortrait script action that did not refer to a valid portrait (e.g. by clicking too quickly in the final dialogue branch when accepting the Stepwell mission), which would cause the game to throw a null error and lock up.That's all for this one. I have much bigger, exciting things in the works, but they remain a secret for now. Until next time!Tactically yours,Craig

  • Security update - 7 October 2025

Hey there, tactics fans! A few days ago, Unity posted about a newly revealed security flaw that primarily affects Android apps but which could conceivably affect other platforms as well under specific circumstances. In Windows, the exploit seems to only affect games that use functionality not used in Together in Battle--but just to be on the safe side, I've rebuilt the game anyway in a patched version that does not have this vulnerability.I'm normally loathe to switch editor versions like this, as doing so can break game functionality; however, I've tested the game and haven't seen anything misbehaving. As always, if you run into any issues, please post about it in the bug report forum and I'll get it fixed post-haste! Tactically yours, Craig

  • Quick weapon switching, broken-weapon indicators, bug fixes, and more! - 24 September 2025

Hey all! I've got another update for you with a bunch of UI improvements designed to make it easier to keep track of worn and broken weapons, as well as making weapon-swapping quicker and easier in battle. I also have some bug fixes focused primarily--but not exclusively--on gamepad. This brings us up to version 1.0.55.Without further ado......here are the UI improvements!weapons now show a red warning icon if they're broken.weapons now show an orange warning icon if they're at 1/3rd uses remaining or less.recolored the old "new item" indicator in light green to make it stand out from the new warning indicators.the Reserve Supplies screen now shows a red warning icon over any character in a weapon-reliant class who is currently equipped with a broken weapon (or not equipped with any weapon at all).the Reserve Supplies screen now shows an orange warning icon over any character in a weapo…

  • Yet more small fixes and improvements! - 14 September 2025

I keep finding little things that need fixing, and so I continue to fix them! Here's what's new in version 1.0.53:UI and other improvements:the game now gracefully handles weapon-switching while attack tiles remain visible onscreen.added in version 1.0.53a: it's now harder to kill the kineticist who calls in reinforcements in the blacksmith rescue battle when playing on difficulties above Relaxed.added in version 1.0.53b: a new unit appears in the last battle on difficulty levels above Relaxed.Bug fixes:fixed: a change to the game's code intended to let it gracefully handle missing dialogue lines in other contexts had caused it to stop generating missing response lines on the fly during camp, leading to a lot of "I don't know what to say" moments.fixed: the Reinforcing Spine item was not adding to the target weapon's max uses correctly.fixed: selecting a skill and then equipping a new w…

  • Further fixes and improvements! - 11 September 2025

I have another small update for you all: version 1.0.52! We have some more class balance tweaks, interface fixes, some extra capability for the item editor, and other miscellaneous bug fixes. Let's get right to the changes:First, miscellaneous balance tweaks and changes:increased the salary and appetite of cavaliers somewhat for balance reasons.reduced the energy gain on the Mant Lancer promotion from 10 to 8.the "-arch" promotion variants for the four elemental psy fighter types now gain +20 accuracy on their relevant elemental blast skill instead of an energy cost reduction, making these variants more distinct from (and competitive with) the "-kurios" alternative.in the Snow Leopard League qualifier, the boss, assassin, and psy healer no longer remain immobile if the player enters their area prior to round 9.in version 1.0.52a: rapier-based attacks Thrust and Lunge now have a big +75…

  • More small fixes and improvements - 4 September 2025

Greetings, tactics fans! This is another small update in which I continue to fix bugs and improve the experience in small ways.Changes to the Main CampaignFirst, we have a few changes designed to make it easier to keep lower-level characters caught up with the rest of the team without risking their lives in the arena, and to ensure that that remains possible throughout the campaign:increased the availability of battle primers somewhat in the shop to make it easier to catch up underleveled characters.increased the range of levels where novice and intermediate battle primers are effective to keep them useful for longer.in the shop, intermediate battle primers are now much more likely to appear instead of novice ones once the player enters Gharial League; and once the player enters Snow Leopard League, expert battle primers are now much more likely to appear instead of novice or intermedia…

  • Some small fixes and improvements - 21 August 2025

Just a small update with improvements and some bug fixes: added in version 1.0.50k: the procedural battle generation algorithm now applies a negative weight to spaces close to treasure chests, making it less likely that enemies will spawn within move-and-attack range of chests. fixed in version 1.0.50k: two different move-clearing methods in the game's AI module were conflicting when an AI character stopped moving due to wandering into a Hold, causing the second method to fail to recognize the held character as the current character and then fail to call for the execution of the next move in the AI module.fixed in version 1.0.50k: it was still possible to get tooltips stuck onscreen when menus were in the process of appearing.fixed in version 1.0.50m: when a character finished acting and their experience bar was animating to full, there was a short window where you could click to select…

  • SRPG Micro-Campaign Contest: "Secret"! - 15 August 2025

Hey all--I've decided to throw a two-month, custom mini-campaign contest! The idea is simple: starting today (August 15th, 2025), you'll have 2 months to create a short custom campaign in Together in Battle's SRPG campaign creator. All entries will be livestreamed and there will be hundreds of dollars* in cash prizes given out for the top 4 submissions! 🎊 *two hundred and fifty, to be exact.Contest Theme"Secret"The DeadlineOctober 16th, 2025, 11:59 PM Central Time (UTC -6)The RulesYour campaign must be playable within Together in Battle (i.e. no custom engines, SRPG Studio, ROM hacks, etc.) You can use Together in Battle's free demo to make it, however! (The demo provides full access to the campaign creation suite.)Your campaign must be "mini": it must consist of exactly 2 battles and no more than 5 scenes total (i.e. 2 battles and 1-3 cutscenes). Each of your cutscenes can be any lengt…

  • Update #6: portrait art, save logic, UI, moddable campaign, and an SRPG contest! - 31 July 2025

Greetings, tactics fans--I have a big free update for you! There is a lot to cover here--new assets for custom characters, AI improvements, interface improvements, an overhaul to the game's logic for manual save mode, and much more--but make sure to read the whole thing, because I am throwing a custom campaign contest, which I talk about that at the end of the post.Okay, enough prefacing: let's get to the changes!First, I reworked the game's save logic for manual save mode!in response to feedback from a small (yet disproportionately vocal) segment of the player base, I've reworked things so that when you play with manual saving enabled, the game no longer auto-saves over your current save file. This means that you will no longer be locked in to your choices when you switch scenes! However, this comes at a cost: you must now save manually in order to save the game in manual save mode. Th…

  • Painting with the developer! - 26 July 2025

I'll be painting new portrait assets for Together in Battle tomorrow on Youtube at 2:00 PM Central Time. If you're free, come join me! Visit the StreamNow admittedly, I'm not the world's greatest multi-tasker, but I will do my best to answer questions posted in chat as I go--and I just might even take a request or two. Anything I paint will get added to the game as part of this month's free update.See you there! 😉--Craig

  • Update #5: new game plus, extended custom portrait support, AI improvement! - 24 June 2025

Greetings, tactics fans! I'm back with more improvements to Together in Battle!New Game Plus is now in the game! When you get the good ending, at the conclusion of the game's end credits, you are now given the option to create a New Game Plus playthrough: "Custom Character Run." Selecting Custom Character Run will prompt you to select a save slot; a new playthrough will then begin in the chosen save slot with two major differences from a normal playthrough:characters of every species (not just humans, lissit, and spriggats) will be available for recruitment at the Recruiter starting on day 1.custom characters will fill as many recruitment spots as are available, and with a 100% show rate. You can use this to easily do full playthroughs with teams consisting entirely of custom characters! We have more in the way of custom portrait asset support:I created a layered template that players look…

  • Update #4: easy character sharing, custom portrait modding, and more! - 12 June 2025

Greetings, tactics fans! Did you think I was done making improvements to Together in Battle? I hope not, 'cause I wasn't! I'm still out here, running myself ragged to get requested new features into the game.Let's start with the first big improvement: easy sharing of custom characters!custom characters can now be exported as text, allowing easy sharing between players! No more having to email your CustomCharacters.xml file--just click the Export button and voila:by that same token, characters can now be imported from text as well. It's as easy as this! Big improvement #2: custom portrait assets are now supported!as you might have noticed in that last gif, character portraits can now make use of custom clothing, eyes, noses, hair, accessories, and more. The only limit is your imagination! Here, for instance, is a noseless abomination inspired by the recent FFT announcement:here's how it…

  • Update #3: nets, calendar saves, custom character opponents, new palettes! - 28 May 2025

Greetings, tactics fans! I'm here with another update full of balance improvements, fun new stuff, some extra quality of life, and some important bug fixes. This is a much meatier update than the past two (which were fairly minor), so I've taken the liberty of jumping the version number ahead to v. 1.0.10. Without further ado, let's get to the changes! Let's start with a big quality-of-life feature: when playing with manual saving enabled, you can now access the save menu on the calendar screen at the beginning of each day in addition to the start of each turn during battles! This allows you to save in alternate slots (and later, to reload to a recent point) even if something goes wrong on a day without a fight. I'm also continuing to tweak balance among the game's classes based on player feedback, including a promised addition to the barudit repertoire: nets! added Weighted Nets to the…

  • Post-launch update #2: more fixes, tweaks, and QOL! - 14 May 2025

Greetings, tactics fans! It's now been 8 days since we hit version 1.0; I've been dutifully collecting your bug reports and squishing them all (the bugs, not the reports) one by one. The result: we have a second patch! First, let's talk UI improvements: as a convenience, the shop now accounts for units temporarily absent from the group when showing what equipment your characters can use, who wants what, and why. You no longer need to remember what equipment your absent characters use or cross-reference the army overview. fixed a long-standing UI annoyance where using a hotkey to select an attack would cause all of the red attack tiles to spawn in blank even if one of them spawned directly beneath the mouse cursor, forcing the player to move the mouse off the tile and back onto it to see the hit reticle and damage prediction text. fixed another, similar UI annoyance where using a hotkey…
