- Devlog: Relics and Abilities - 21 October 2021
Hi again, loot hoarders! this post is about Relics and Abilities and will conclude our itemization series. Signature Abilities Signature abilities are innate, dictated by class and cannot be changed. For example, the Adventurer archtype comes with the useful Evasive Leap ability which is pinnacle in escaping dangerous skirmish situations or in closing the gap with a fleeting enemy. Their use is limited by their cooldown time. Evasive Leap in action! Relics and Granted Abilities In Matergari, Relics are odd heirlooms of unknown origin infused with ancients powers. Equipping a Relic will grant access to one unique ability. Unlike Signatures, abilities granted by Relics have limited charges that partially restore between battles; players can choose between increasing said abilities' power and/or their recharge rate (e.g. to have them available more often) by focusing on specific character'…
- Devlog: Weapons - 14 October 2021
Welcome back to Matergari, adventurers! In this devlog post we will share some details about Weapons and Skimirsh combat mechanic. Skirmish In Matergari, melee combat between hostile characters is referred as Skirmish. Skirmish is automated and there's no need for the player to click or press buttons: hits will occur periodically with their frequency and damage altered by Weapon choice and character's attributes. Take that, training dummy! Weapons Unlike Armor and Accessories, this category of items do not come with any attribute but sports various modifiers that are meant to define a character's Skirmish attack and it's up to the players to choose the combination that better suits their style. Ranging from - to name a few - Cleave (damage is dealt in a small area), to Pierce (ignores a portion of Armor) and Bleed (bonus damage over time) each has its utility when dealing with many enem…
- Devlog: Armor & Accessories - 7 October 2021
Hello adventurers and welcome back to Matergari! This is the first of a series of posts aimed at giving a general overview about how itemization works in the game. General In Matergari, equipped items are a passive source of power. Based on their rank and rarity, Armor and Accessories bring an array of bonus attributes for the player to toy with when defining a build for their character. Armor Along with said bonus attributes, this category of items also provides implicit defense and consists of three item slots: Chestpiece, Hands and Feet. A choice is to be made between avoidance or damage mitigation, with some middle ground options. Armor pieces are also grouped into sets: mixing different types might result in a suboptimal way of survive as equipping a full set grants an additional defensive layer. A visual representation of some armor sets: Leather, Plate and Mail Accessories A simp…
