- Outcore update + sequel dev update #4 - 18 September 2026
Outcore updateI've updated Outcore with a new build that addresses some stability issuesFixed corrupted sprite references that caused the game to sometimes miss some of its graphics when an update was released. Added safeguards for the save files of Outcore + Outcore's idle game + Outcore's setting files, which should make it less likely for these files to get corruptedDead Watch (Outcore's sequel) progress updateHey everyone! It's been several months since the last public dev update. Chapter 2 is almost done, so it's a good time to make another update. Let's go over some of the major stuff that happened since May.Chapter 2 content complete + playtesting begunOver the past 4 months I've worked on implementing all of the content for the 2nd chapter. This includes the entire spaceship area, puzzles, main story routes, side quest and the next Ashmedai quest.Earlier this month I finished im…
- A click bait title - 19 May 2026
An introduction subtitle that warmly welcomes the readerHello everyone! It's time for your quarterly proctological inspection Outcore/Dead Watch update! YAYA subtitle about how I took Outcore's final boss behind a barn and beat it to death with the nerf bat. And then I spit on it tooOne common complaint I often read about Outcore is that its final boss is too difficult. This is due to the final boss sequence being the only one that can't be skipped; it has multiple phases that are vastly different from each other, each having its own custom controls, and requires a relatively quick response time.Getting the difficulty of a boss to feel right requires a delicate balance. I want the final boss battle to be an epic spectacle that will feel like a rewarding conclusion, but I don't want players to drop the game right at the end because they can't defeat it.Challenge was never the main appeal…

- Sequel progress update #1 - 19 October 2025
Hey everyone! It's been 4 months since Dead Watch was revealed. I'd like to keep the community updated with the game's development every now and then, so it's time for the first public update!New character revealIf you watched the trailer (which, if you haven't, go watch it!), then you should know Capi, the little capitalist gremlin girl who is Mr Krabs reincarnated.Guess what? Dead Watch is a murder mystery game, and murder mystery games MUST have a pair of twins. That means Capi has a sister! She represents communism, a rival economic belief to Capi's capitalism. The sister's name is Comi: Although they are twins, Capi and Comi don't like each other very much...Who is your favorite twin? Don't let me know in the comments because this isn't YouTube and the visibility algorithm doesn't care about engagement!New spritesCapi, Comi, and Lumi have all received several new professionally drawn…
- The spooky halloween update - 3 October 2025
Change notes: This update adds absolutely nothing new
- The "EZ MODO" update - 18 August 2025
A little bird screeched in my ear that some players quit the game after reaching the final boss because it's too hard. What?!I designed that boss to be challenging because that's the game's climax. I wanted beating it to feel rewarding, but never intended it to be like bosses in Dark Souls. I think it's a shame that players would play until the final boss but then quit without getting to see the end. That's why I'd like to introduce a solution.Welcome to the EZ MODO update(Credit to Yelly for the art)The final boss is initially unchanged. If you lose to it too many times, I will personally come to your house and bonk the boss on the head, which will reduce the number of hits it takes to beat it.It's not lame because I'm the one choosing ez modo for you, so don't worry about mean girls making fun of you. Also, this only affects the final boss. You still gotta prove your worth if you want to…
- June 14th patch notes - 14 June 2025
Fixes: Fixed the star sensitivity slider accidentally affecting the game's volume instead. How long has it been like this...?
- Opsy doopsy update - 8 June 2025
Recently, I reinstalled Windows, and along with it, I reinstalled the Outcore project. Ever since then, things have started breaking even though I didn't make any major changes. One of the bugs that managed to slip through my testing was the camera's rendering changing to "perspective" from "orthographic" (ortho is better for 2D). This caused the camera to render things that were out of bounds sometimes. Fixed camera rendering out of bounds when choosing "retry" in the pause menu
- Minor update - 8 June 2025
Added a link to Lumi's next adventure at the end of the game
- Announcing Dead Watch - 7 June 2025
I'm happy to finally announce Dead Watch(ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː)!Dead Watch is a murder mystery game where the time resets whenever you find a dead body. You're stuck in a castle and have to find a way out before the next murder occurs. While you explore, characters will follow their schedule, move around, and do certain actions. You'll have to use your knowledge of past loops to steer the future and prevent the murderer from killing.Featuring a bunch of losers, such as: Yourself. Lumi from Outcore, plucked from the internet. A mascot animal whose sole purpose of existence is to sell merchandise! This is the part where I tell you to Like & Subscribe, except I'm not a YouTuber, so please Wishlist & Follow Dead Watch! How you can help Dead Watch release fasterThis is a self-funded project, so I can't afford to hire a full-time t…

- The "imbecile" update - 28 February 2025
When I created Outcore, I tried to design every obstacle to be challenging but still passable even if you're not great at games. However, sometimes players still get stuck in puzzles I thought anyone could overcome. One such puzzle is located at the beginning of the game: The MS Paint safe-unlocking challenge. I keep reading comments of angry players who get stuck at that part and quit the game. I knew some players would have trouble drawing an accurate shape, so I made it very forgiving. Even if your drawing doesn't fit exactly inside the keyhole, the algorithm will still ignore a certain amount of error so players don't get stuck. To ensure players wouldn't cheese the puzzle by drawing a tiny blob of pixels, I had every keyhole require a minimum amount of pixels before a drawing is considered a valid key. And that's where players tend to get stuck. People often draw hollow shapes that…
- December 32th patch notes - 16 February 2025
Updated Villain Lumi's sprites. I know some people asked for the option to switch to the old sprites. Unfortunately, the game wasn't built with interchangeable skins in mind, so adding this feature is a lot more work than it seems. Attempt to fix a rare case where Lumi doesn't recognize when the player opens their Documents folder.
- Should Villain Lumi's in-game design be changed? - 14 February 2025
Lumi's villain design has a little problem. Can you spot it? When they're placed side by side it becomes obvious: Lumi's villain design is inconsistent and has 3 variations: - Lumi's small sprite has black sleeves and no gloves - Lumi's big sprite has white sleeves that are connected to her white gloves - Lumi's plushie (WHICH YOU SHOULD TOTALY BUY BEFORE THE TIME RUNS OUT) has black sleeves, white gloves Oy Vai Voy what a mess!!! Lumi's small sprite was what I made first. I made it without gloves because it made sense to me. I then paid a professional artist to make her big sprite, but I only noticed her having gloves was inconsistent after the game was released. For a long while I didn't care. It was a bit weird but most people didn't even notice there was an inconsistency. I did start caring when Makeship and I started working on Lumi's villain plushie (WHICH AGAIN, YOU SHOULD BUY!!!…
- Villain Lumi is here! - 3 February 2025
Just in time for the next stock market crash, get ready to make one last terrible financial decision by purchasing one (or a million) Villain Lumi plush! She's like the regular Lumi, except now she's EVIL and needs your credit card information, including the three digits on the back! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA This plushie is available until February 24th. After that, she's gone. FOREVER! This will (probably) be the last Makeship plushie for Outcore, so don't let sound logic prevent you from making this impulse purchase - https://www.makeship.com/products/lumi-plushie-villain-edition-outcore-desktop-adventure New game update If you didn't read the previous post, you might have missed that I'm working on a new, unannounced game. Since then, I have sent an early prototype to three playtesters and received very positive responses from all of them. Of course, there were comments about things that neede…
- New plushie, new game, and more! - 24 December 2024
New plushie Makeship is going to release a new Outcore plushie in February. It's going to be (spoilers) Lumi in her villain outfit Start saving money now, because this will likely be the last Outcore plushie. There are no plans to release new ones in the foreseeable future. Tease: New game I'm collaborating with your mom to make a new game! I can't talk about what it will be just yet, but if you liked Outcore, you'd likely also enjoy that. And if you didn't like Outcore, then it's quite strange you found this blog post. I don't want to promise anything though. It's currently in an early prototyping phase so there's still a good chance the idea won't work out. But I have faith in the new game, so let's hope it will mature into a full title. I'll update you if it survived the prototyping phase or not in the coming months. Bluesky If you haven't heard about it yet, I have a Bluesky account…

- November 15th patch notes - 15 November 2024
Fixed some title texts not showing on the credits screen. This fix is somewhat experimental, so please let me know if you find any text rendering issues anywhere in the game.
