- Release 1.30 - 15 November 2023
Just some minor changes today: retries for friend score leaderboards (hopefully fixing an issue where some wouldn't appear?) and a very tiny silly new cheevo. Hope everyone's having a good one. :)
- Release 1.28 - 15 November 2022
A few fresh bugfixes I missed in the last update. Fix a 2.5 year old bug where infinite loops would cause the game to hang for a bit while processing every single test. (There was code which handled this for timeouts, but the infinite loop detection broke it.) Oops! Make a bunch of sound effects properly affected by the SFX volume slider. Don't hide the area display behind decor on the bottom right of 'Priest'. Best wishes, P.F.
- Release 1.27 - 12 November 2022
Hi, all! It's been a bit. Here are a few bugfixes and QoL improvements, by popular demand. Increase tick limits across the board. The secret 999 tick limit was originally added as a sanity check, but people hit it far more often than I expected. Raise it to 9999 ticks and remove the corresponding achievement, since it's probably more annoying than fun to get now. New hotkeys: esc to close the save/load UI, enter to continue 'Onward!' once you've won a level. Add a little gold medal icon in the background of scores that you've earned medals for, to make it slightly clearer what's going on. (Hopefully!) Fix: hitting the screenshot UI button on Windows would sometimes cause a black screen. Fix: editing the board during the intro animation for endgame levels caused a broken state. Fix: picking up scanners and setting them down in the same spot would cause the scanner limit to display incorr…
- Manufactoria 2022 Full Release! - 16 August 2022
Manufactoria 2022 has graduated from Early Access with 100% positive reviews! It's now out and on a 10% launch discount. Tell your friends! Tell your family! Tell strangers on the street! I'm very proud of what I've made here, and I hope everyone else will enjoy it too. Cheers, Nicholas "PleasingFungus" Feinberg
- Release 1.26 - 13 August 2022
A few last-minute fixes leading up to full release. Added new graphics options to disable some fanciness. Added a cheap check for integrated GPUs and default to disabling fancy graphics for those.
- Release 1.23 - 13 June 2022
Minor bugfix release. Fixed a typo in 'Foodship'. Fixed an issue with eyedropping while parts are selected. Changed timing on stamped symbols appearing on the tape. Happy June to all! Many fine robot tidings :)
- Release 1.22 (and "Making a Mint" issues) - 21 May 2022
There's a known issue in which entering the level "Making a Mint" sometimes causes the game to freeze. While I'm investigating it, I've marked that level optional for progression. Also, fix some malformed ellipses on invisible medal tooltips.
- Release 1.21 - 19 May 2022
Just in time for the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase, here's a medium-sized update! Major: New save/load UI added! In addition to the ability to load your best solutions for each category, you can also explicitly save and load specific setups for a level. Useful while experimenting with different approaches before you've figured out how to beat the thing! New screenshot tool added! Accessible while running a level (or after having won it), it's a nice way to take a picture of your solution with stats attached. Very classy! Minor: Change eyedroppers yet again. Right-mouse now picks up, and shift-rightmouse eyedrops. The selection tool is now available one area earlier. Flautistry is now a required level for completing the tutorial. Some rewording of level descriptions ('produce' replaced with 'accept' where appropriate). Simplify Lathertron description. Make the zoom UI less obtrusive. Add tool…
- Release 1.20 - 30 March 2022
Replace Crate Expectations with a new (simple) level, and add an eyedrop hint in the top-right of the UI. Enable extra decorative sound effects. Fun :) New zoom/scroll SFX. New reset profile & 'invalid' SFX. New 3D backgrounds for the last remaining two late-game areas. Make histograms bouncy and add a dashed line for your previous stats. Add a pointer to time controls after losing. Fix colour flipping in held groups not adding to the undo history. Fix flipping after rotating a held group. Fix 'B.F.' description.
- Release 1.19 - 12 January 2022
Happy new year! A new look is in for the backgrounds of the final area of the game. Lots of cool new funky background robots - check em out! Many pieces of text should now look better at very wide resolutions, eg 3440x1440. Bugfix: pasting while mousing outside the playable area will no longer anchor immediately. Key display on Russian key layouts (and other non-ASCII setups) should hopefully look more reasonable. (Still testing this.) See you later! - Nicholas
- Release 1.18 - 22 November 2021
A small release for this week. Experimentally rework eyedropping (the right-click functionality) in an attempt to simplify and clarify it. Instead of deleting the clicked machine, only select it as the next machine to place. Remove right-click-hold-and-drag functionality (which now makes no sense). Add an animation to try to clarify what's happening when you right-click. Dynamically update rotate and flip button enabled status based on the selection. Make the color swap buttons always present on levels in which they're relevant, but enable or disable them based on the selection. Happy building!
- Release 1.17 - 15 November 2021
Fairly minor technical release. Fix right-click still rotating while there was a selection. (It should eyedrop.) Replace the entire input system. This will probably break something but also hopefully fixes the controller bug. Have a good one, all :)
- Release 1.16 - 12 November 2021
Lots of changes tonight! Great new 3d backgrounds for area 10, courtesy the tireless Yaroslav Adamov. Check em out! Very large levels now have a 'zoom' button in the top right, which, when clicked, zooms in on the board & allows you to scroll with on-screen buttons or arrow keys. (Arrow keys no longer rotate the selected machine in the Edit UI, adjust the cursor in the Test UI, or move through time in the Run UI.) As an experimental compromise, the 'rotation' controls are now always active while holding a group of machines. If you just have a group of machines selected (but on the ground), or if you're just in the neutral placement state, you can still toggle between machine & rotation controls with 'shift'. If this causes confusion, I'll revert it. To avoid confusion with the 'eyedrop' functionality, right click no longer rotates carried groups. Instead, middle mouse scroll now does. (…
- Release 1.15 - 6 November 2021
Over the last few days, I went through and revised the fonts & general polish of almost all of the UI throughout the game, following some advice from Corey Martin. The scale of these changes means there are probably some bugs and other oversights lurking. If you spot anything, let me know! Other changes: Made some smaller follow-up changes to the flip/rotate/swap controls mentioned in the last patch. Rotate is now on Q/E, vertical flip on WS, horizontal on AD, and swap on ZC. Thanks to Menderbug for the suggestions! Ecog. Area medal requirement is now 45 (was 39). The old requirement is possible, but it's harder than was intended, due to other changes made to the level. Fixed a bug where swapping colors didn't properly update the selected machine button. More UI changes coming next patch, hopefully. There are still a few remaining especially rough areas that I want to clean up. After th…
- Release 1.14 - 3 November 2021
Hello, all! The big change in this update is controls for manipulating selections. The previous controls overlapped the 'choose what machine to place' controls, which resulted in people accidentally choosing a machine instead of flipping their selection (or vice versa). So: Use shift (or a new toggle button) to switch between normal controls (machine to place, rotation to use) and manipulation controls (rotate/mirror/swap colors). Rotation now on shift-A/D. Mirroring now on shift-W/S. Swap Colors on shift-1/3. You can now rotate, mirror, or swap colors to change the next machine you're going to place. You can now change to a new machine type while selecting or carrying machines. (This cancels the selection.) This is all experimental, but I'm hopeful it'll create less friction than the previous setup. Let's try it out, give a little time to get used to the change, and see how it feels! O…
- Release 1.13 - 27 October 2021
Fix the backspace hotkey in the test UI (broken in 1.12).
- Release 1.12 - 27 October 2021
This is a fun one :) Lots of new art in the 3D backgrounds for area 11. There's some fun props - take a look! Other changes: To avoid accidental exits, make the hotkey for leaving a level "hold escape" instead of "press escape". Tweak lighting on extremely large levels to make them more legible. Fix the newish color swap functionality corrupting undo history. Make medals for F-M easier to get. Make the area medal for Deputy a bit tighter. Fix text issues on V.H.'s outro text. Fix a bug with the letter 'B' in the test UI while on Windows in a Finnish or German keyboard layout. Yes, this was fun to track down. (Big thanks to 1vader for the help!) Fix text overflowing from the 'delete' hotkey while in a Finnish keyboard layout in Windows. Initial work on a new achievement (not yet achievable, sorry!) Happy robot-ing! :)
- Release 1.11 - 23 October 2021
Hello, all! I've been working on some very silly things behind the scenes, but they're not quite ready yet. Until then: Late-game machine colors tweaked again for increased contrast and readability. Colorblind-friendly toggle added in options. Add select all hotkey (ctrl/cmd-a). Tighten all medal requirements for Venturesome and shrink down the playable area. Tighten time medal requirements for Forecaster. Ban advanced scanner types from certain mid-game levels where they weren't needed and caused confusion. Fix various typos in level descriptions. In particular, pluralize Saturn's rings and remove an huge. Fix Motivation's displayed input length to match the actual inputs. Clarify what "11" means in a level goal. Increase time limit for the level with initials M.C. Fix an issue with pressing tab while running tests caused by an undocumented hotkey. See you all soon! Don't let those rob…
- Release 1.10 - 18 October 2021
More small bugs and fixes. I'm going to try to slow down development a bit this week and work on slightly larger features; we'll see how that goes. Fix inputs for Priest and V.H. (in the last area). (Neither conformed to the listed specs.) Fix an off-by-one on Home Mechanic and Cyberchauffeur inputs. Fix the order in which Sandwich Police and Balanced Sandwich unlock visually. Adjust colours in the later parts of the game to try to increase contrast and improve colourblind friendliness. Fix a bug when pasting objects without being in select mode. Swap the first and second level in the endgame sequence. Make Fruit Crusher medal requirements a little less brutal. Fix a 1-frame flicker when queue labels changed. Thanks to all for playing!
- Release 1.09 - 16 October 2021
Hi, all! The game is 1 week old today, and we have a decent little pile of changes. Tilt the camera to a more top-down angle with large levels. This should hopefully help those levels feel a bit better. Conveyors: narrow the tails of the direction arrows, to try to make their direction more obvious in large levels. Fix some level select graphical errors (missing requirement for Ecognomist and mis-placed arrow to area 11... again) Fix typo ("analyists"). Fix off-by-one in alternating input lengths. Fix a level select graphical bug when you met all requirements to enter the postgame... other than having beaten the regular game. Happy Friday, all!
