- GDS - Dec Patch Notes & Dev Update - 20 December 2021
Hey there, Game Directors! We’ve been hard at work on the full game, but we wanted to get one last demo update before we say goodbye to 2021. Preview Character Impact: Previously, when the player made a choice in conversation, there was no option to tell whether this would impact a character negatively or positively. In this update we’ve added this as an option for players who want to see how a character will react before making a choice. Added ability to preview which characters will be impacted by a choice (based on the difficulty setting in Options) Minor UI adjustments for all aspect ratios Preview and Impact (after a decision) values were updated to use the same system Bug Fixes & other improvements: Adjusted a Tala conversation impact and character emote to better reflect the intent Fixed some of the ‘game fail’ ending screens Some minor text updates & typos Thanks again for playi…

Hey there, Game Directors! We’ve made some big changes to the demo since our last update, and are excited for you to try them out. You’ll now notice a functional options screen with difficulty settings, and a new tooltip system to provide a greater depth of information on status bars and icons. We’ve also introduced Victor, an entirely new character and another face of the publisher that was concepted live during our LudoNarraCon stream. We hope you enjoy the new changes, and as always, let us know what you think! Onward with the details of this update: Options screen: Functional options screen allowing you to change video, audio and game difficulty settings Game difficulty settings includes 3 difficulty presets (Easy, Default, Hard) Game difficulty settings allows for customizing individual elements in presets - including whether to show (or hide) stakeholder preview & impact, characte…
- GDS - June Patch Notes & Dev Update - 20 June 2021
Happy pride month everyone! As the team continues working on the full game, it's time to bring some of those improvements & bug fixes over to the demo. We were hoping to have this update out earlier this month, but have been wrestling with a few tricky bugs. In our last update we talked about moving from a static sequence of conversations to our new Systemic Story System. This system is intended to introduce more variability in the types of conversations that the player encounters in each playthrough. It has been huge for us in terms of unlocking narrative flexibility for the full game. In addition, GDS was part of Wholesome Games Direct this month, as well as in the Wholesome section of the Guerrilla Collective event here on Steam! We hope you had a chance to check out some of the other amazing games. As a reminder, be sure to give them all a Follow & Wishlist - it's a huge help for up…
- GDS - April Patch Notes & Dev Update - 22 April 2021
It has been a while since our last update, and we know we’ve been a bit quiet - we really appreciate your patience! The team has been hard at work on the full game. In fact, much of the work in the last few months has been behind the scenes in service of that. However, in time for LudoNarraCon, we made a small update to the demo. Below are some more details on what we’ve been up to, as well as what is included in the demo update. Character Impact Notifications: Based on feedback, there is now a notification area that shows when decisions impact specific characters either positively or negatively, as well as indicate if that was a small, medium or large impact. Previously the only impacts seen were the status icons, so it was not always easy to understand how characters ended up reaching their frayed states. A future update will include the ability to control how much of this information…

- Demo Update 3 - 9 December 2020
Updated Game Director Story Demo The year is almost done - and it's been quite the year for most of us. We're looking forward to a holiday break and hope all of you, your friends, and family are safe & that you have a fantastic holiday season and a better new year. In our last post we talked about our date move to 2021, and we're excited to share more about that soon. In the meantime, while we're working on the full game, we will continue to make some updates to the demo to get early feedback from you, address any issues you told us about, as well as to keep it as close of a representation of what you can expect in the final game as possible. In this update we’re adding some bug fixes to items you reported, but most notably we're adding a much asked save/load system, a new game presentation featuring larger characters and a cleaner chat UI, a festive theme, and more! We'd love to hear w…
- Release date change - 16 October 2020
Hi everyone, If you’re reading this there’s a good chance you took the time to play or wishlist Game Director Story, and for that we’re grateful. Today, we made the decision to postpone our launch to 2021. Initially, we targeted late 2020 as our window, but the realities of indie development have made it clear that it’s best for us to push it into the new year. The Game Director Story team is a small group of talented developers who balance other jobs, families, and school. We’re extremely thankful for their time and want to be able to continue to honor that balance in their lives, while building Game Director Story into the best game we know it can be. One of the main motivations behind making Game Director Story is to take a hard look at some of the industry’s biggest problems. Because of this, we feel it's important for us to play our part in setting a better example of how things ca…
- Demo Update 2 - 7 October 2020
Updated Game Director Story Demo Earlier this summer, we launched an early demo of Game Director Story in time for the Steam Summer Festival. We wanted to give folks a small sample of our game for a limited time, but ended up getting so much great feedback from the community that we decided to leave the demo up. Since then, we continue working on the game, and have made a few updates to the demo to address feedback from players, like making it clearer when new conversations are coming in or leaving the chat window, and how the game’s clock advances. We’ve also added some key functionality that better represents the intended final game that we weren't able to get in time for the summer demo, such as not being able to freely switch between different conversations. Today we’re rolling out an updated demo with these improvements and a number of bug fixes. We’re grateful for your input, and…
- Demo updates now live - 20 June 2020
Early game over feedback If the game ends before the number of days is finished, you now also get some information on why it failed. Reaching the end of demo (day 0) also has multiple endings depending on your decisions. Link to the web survey In the end screens we've also added a link to optional open a web browser and go to the demo feedback survey - we greatly appreciate your feedback from this early demo. Text too fast One comment that kept coming up was text being too fast to keep up. In the final game this will be part of the game options, but for the demo there's a few things you can now do to manage text speed: Text was made a little slower again by default You can click left mouse button or press space bar to advance text You can now scroll up to continue reading text, and new lines added do not bump you to bottom of chat window Editing pass of text There was another editing pa…
- About Game Director Story - 16 June 2020
First off, thank you for participating in the Steam Game Festival and supporting indie games! About Game Director Story In Game Director Story our goal is to take you behind-the-scenes and provide you a sense of what it is like to try and develop a AAA (large blockbuster) game, while still keeping the experience of playing GDS entertaining and accessible for anyone. About the Demo The demo we have in the Steam Game Festival is a portion of an Event from the full game, and can take ~30-45m to play through, not including variations from replay. In the full game you will experience all major phases of development, from concept to post ship, and within each phase you may encounter several iconic Events - situations that challenge you and your team, usually with a very short deadline. For the Steam Game Festival demo, the Event is based on a last minute request from your publisher to have a…
