- Mayhem Brawler II Dev Diary #9 – Backgrounds - 23 December 2023
How is it going, Brawlers? Today, we'll dive into the backgrounds of Mayhem Brawler: Best of Both Worlds. Who is Rabia? I've been part of the Hero Concept team, breathing life into the Mayhem universe for about four years. Initially, I was a painter who wanted to create 3D environments, but my journey in the industry began with coloring character animations for Mayhem Brawler. Back then, I had created backgrounds for the upcoming game, and now I'm one of the few individuals working on the backgrounds for Mayhem Brawler: Best of Both Worlds. How It Started? This was both exciting and frightening for me. Even though I had created small 3D models before, this time, I had to bring to life cities, shops, concert halls, and various concepts. After numerous brainstorming sessions, small experiments, and lengthy discussions about what we wanted to achieve, we started the practical aspect by pre…
- Mayhem Brawler II Dev Diary #8 - The Cover - 14 November 2023
When designing a game's cover art, it's important to take a deep breath. The cover serves as the game's first introduction to the outside world and will remain so for months to come. To be successful, it is not enough to have an impressive cover art and logo. The design should also be able to adjust to different frames quickly. When launching a game, the cover art is required in various sizes, including horizontal (16:9), vertical (9:16), or square (1:1). To ensure the best presentation of your cover, it is crucial to optimize it for each platform where it will be displayed. 1 - Briefing Based on lessons from the Mayhem Brawler's cover art projects, I had a clear vision from the beginning of the Mayhem Brawler II: Best of Both Worlds cover. To begin with, I created a briefing: The cover art should feature characters from two different timelines in the exact location. All eight playable…

- Mayhem Brawler II Developer Diary 6: Spellcasters - 11 August 2023
Howdy? 🤠 It’s Dilailah once again! You might remember me from the Character Concepts developer diary, where we discussed creating captivating characters. Well, I’m back to introduce you to the spellcaster heroes of Mayhem Brawler II: Best of Both Worlds. Get ready to be amazed by their magical powers and engaging personalities. 🧙♂️ WOOSH! 💫 Bringing Spectral Blast Into A Fistfight I’ve always been a safe kind of player in every game. No matter the genre, I choose to play with a mage character if I can because I like to support my teammates without diving into the action myself. However, that approach doesn’t quite cut it in beat ’em ups. Have to get your hands dirty! You know, you have to beat ’em up. But fear not! Our spellcasters in Mayhem Brawler II: Best of Both Worlds possess an enchanting blend of magical prowess and physical combat skills. Our spellcasters can defend themselv…
- Mayhem Brawler II Developer Diary 5: Big Guys - 26 July 2023
Beyond Color Swapping Until the late 80s, the beat ’em up genre had secondary heroes with a color swap technique due to the limitations on the hardwares¹. However, Golden Axe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Final Fight, released consecutively in 1989, overcame this technological limitation and set the standard for characters to look different from each other. I want to highlight one of the groundbreaking titles: Final Fight. This game introduced the iconic and influential character, Mike Haggar, who set a new standard for beat ’em up games, and he paved the way for the famous “Big Guys!” The first things that come to my mind from the old times are; Mike Haggar from Final Fight (1989), Baby Head from Captain Commando (1991), Hawk from Vendetta (1991), Max Thunder from Streets of Rage 2 (1992), Colossus from X-Men (1992), Mess O’Bradovich from Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (1993), Major Dutc…
- Mayhem Brawler OST - New Tracks! - 6 June 2023
We all know a good soundtrack is integral to any beat 'em up. It helps the player to get involved with the game setting the tone of a particular level or warning the player that a Big Bad Boss is closer. And when the soundtrack is perfect, we want to listen to it everywhere. That's why we called the talented Emir Merzeci to compose the original 47 rocking tunes from the game for Mayhem Brawler. But, with our past updates, we also updated the game with two more tracks, one from the famous Air Supremacy trailer and the other is the newly added adrenaline-pumped Boss Rush. We know that many of you were waiting to have both tracks outside the game, and we just did that. Both tracks are now available in the Mayhem Brawler OST, which you can find on Steam, so don't lose any more time and update your copy. You can get it right here if you don't own the OST yet. https://store.steampowered.com/a…

The game is shaping up nicely, and we can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been up to… but this will have to wait a little bit. While you wait, we didn’t forget our first game and our promises to our fans! In April 2023, we will release a brand-new major update for Mayhem Brawler with an exciting new mode and a new playable character. It's called: Witchcraft! New Playable Hero: Alley Witch For those following the story, it will be no surprise that Nora Komar, aka Alley Witch, would become part of the team. After all, in the campaign, she became a bit of a snitch, helping our heroes to find clues that were vital to the case. Now fully converted, Nora will be joining the team and helping The Stronghold to sav…
- Mayhem Brawler II Developer Diary 4: Character Concepts - 2 March 2023
Hello there! My name is Dilailah Beste Kuzu and I am the Character Concept Artist at HC HQ. In this new Developer Diary, we will talk about the super fun, yet fairly challenging, design process of our colorful characters. Who is Dilailah? I’m a 23-year-old self-taught 2D character artist who worked for several years as a freelance illustrator before I met Hero Concept. I’m such an indie game geek and a huge admirer of cartoons and animations, especially Disney, which influenced me a lot in finding my very own art style. Working as a character designer has been my dream job and I’m so glad that I achieved it so soon. Now, it’s been almost half a year since I became a part of the Hero Concept crew and it’s very exciting to be able to witness how much our game progressed in such a short period of time! Adaptation Period I must admit that my adaptation period wasn’t easy. The game already h…
- Mayhem Brawler 2.1.9 Patch Notes - 5 December 2022
A minor hotfix for the latest controller-related crash reports.
- Mayhem Brawler II Developer Diary 3: Character Animations - 2 December 2022
How is it going, brawlers? Today we’ll dive into the animations and pipeline process of Mayhem Brawler II: Best of Both Worlds. Who Is Emre? They call me Emre, I am an animator at Hero Concept since Mayhem Brawler was halfway through. I have always been a sucker for traditional animation. Both modern and retro-themed fighting games such as MVC2, SF3, and, Skullgirls became a massive source of inspiration for me immediately after I discovered the fighting genre. The inspiration I took from fighting game artworks and animations led me to work for the Mayhem Brawler series. What Did We Need For This Game, Animations? We designed our characters based on how we wanted to animate them. So, what kind of animations would we need? The answer was hidden in the pace we desired for the game. We intend MB2 to be fast-paced, flashy, and combo heavy. Therefore, we animate them accordingly and, the des…
