Stray was one of my favourite games of 2022 with its hauntingly beautiful rendition of a post-apocalypse through the razor-sharp eyes of a lovable feline. Later releases of the game, particularly on Nintendo Switch, pushed the hardware to its limits, marring the true visual fidelity of the indie darling. With its arrival on the Nintendo Switch 2, Stray from BlueTwelve Studio and Annapurna Interactive takes advantage of the beefier hardware, delivering an experience more in line with its initial release on PlayStation and Xbox. All 25 members of staff on the gaming team at Annapurna Interactive - publisher of acclaimed indies like Outer Wilds , Stray and Neon White - have reportedly resigned after talks to spin-off the division as an "independent entity" broke down. According to a report from Bloomberg , corroborated by IGN , Annapurna president of interactive and new media Hector Sanchez has reassured partner developers that the company will continue its existing contracts. The report states that Annapurna Interactive President Nathan Gary and his team had been negotiating with Annapurna Pictures owner Megan Ellison over spinning off the gaming division into "independent entity", with Ellison pulling out of these negotiations at some juncture. Given that the physical version of the game was being sold for £41.99 instead of the usual £69.99 on that platform and Xbox Series X/S at several retailers as part of Black Friday deals , odds are that probably helped a bit. Annapurna Animation is preparing to adapt BlueTwelve Studio's award-winning cat game Stray into an animated film. Stray puts you in control of a ginger cat who falls into an underground city populated by bacteria, machines, and robots. Striving to return home with the help of a drone companion, the duo must try their best to avoid the Zurks and Sentinels attempting to eliminate them. Annapurna Animation is led by Robert Baird and Andrew Millstein, both former Disney Animation executives, and speaking with Entertainment Weekly , Baird compared the game to a buddy comedy with a "hilarious dynamic" between the cat and robot. It's definitely a game you will want to play, in VG247's humble opinion , and don't just take our word for it: many players out there enjoyed playing the game. Highly anticipated following its announcement, the game topped Steam's wishlist charts before release and broke its publisher's record for concurrent Steam players upon release, with over 62,000 players .
