- Hardship: Now With 15% More Survival (Thanks to the Tutorial!) - 7 January 2026
Hardship: Now With 15% More Survival (Thanks to the Tutorial!) Hello everyone! It’s been six months. Six months of silence, six months of coffee induced hallucinations, and six months of wondering why I decided to build a game on a sphere. I’ve been working hard on making Hardship live up to its name. Mostly by making sure our citizens have as many ways to perish as possible. Hunger? Check. Thirst? Check. Freezing to death in a beautiful, procedurally generated spherical winter? Double check. I realized that maybe, just maybe, some of you might actually want your citizens to live past the first night. So, in a shocking display of mercy, I've added a Tutorial System that I'm sure many people will never use. Yes, you can now learn how to place a stockpile without accidentally bankrupting your entire civilization's future. It even has "Back" and "Done" buttons, because I know you'll need t…
- Performance, UI and bugs - 19 July 2025
Performance, UI and bugs I've been hard at work over the past month, focusing mainly on performance optimizations, UI, alongside bug fixing and some refactoring, sadly nothing too fancy to show this month but some core improvements to the games features. Performance BoostI've dedicated a significant amount of time to optimizing the game's performance, shifting to a more data orientated design. You should notice a smoother experience, especially when selecting objects and managing your town. I've also optimized the animation system and the logic for checking tasks, which should lead to better overall performance.ProductionI've also recently reimplemented and redesigned the production systems allowing for a more focused production per building and also integrating the building creator with these systems so that a player can place a stove and the building has the ability to produce cooked…
- Tech, Roads and Buildings - 18 June 2025
New Models I decided to buy some assets to bring the game visuals to where I wanted them, I believe in the short term this will save me a ton of time making assets in blender and allow me to spend more time on the systems at the core of the game rather than art, although maybe in the future I will have the time to create my own models and craft a visual look I am happy with.RoadsI've implemented the first iteration of the road network, these roads are not only visual they boost movement speed and also offer the citizen a more performant path finding allowing the game to run faster and help citizens navigate the world with ease. Additionally there is only one road network system, meaning all roads will be connected and will function as the life line of the city. Technology TreeI have spent a great amount of time hand crafting a tech tree that is in depth and balanced. The categories of t…
- Visual Rework - 30 May 2025
Orthographic Design I've been working on refining the visual style of my city-building game, and I’ve decided to transition to a cleaner, orthographic-ish look. This update brings a sharper and more structured visual idea to my game whilst maintaining some depth. Instead of just making the camera a traditional ortho graphic camera, I turned down the FOV to 20 and zoomed the camera out to achieve a look that is similar to true orthographic mode. Although I'm not happy with the overall color composition, I think it is a step in the right direction. I am still working on polishing the building creator, adding images for the buttons will be the next step and I am can't wait to add more building parts so players can build their city in what ever style they would like. A real challenge for this game is keeping it looking good and consistent when zoomed all the way in and when zoomed all the w…
