Hello everyone! Today we pushed a patch for Risk of Rain Returns! While this patch has a whole bunch of different balance changes and bug fixes, detailed below, its biggest feature is the inclusion of horizontal mouse aiming! To be clear - this does not allow you to have full 360 degree aiming/shooting - it allows you to put the cursor to the left/right of your character to attack in that horizontal direction. With Risk of Rain Returns, the classic action-roguelike franchise has come full circle—as has my scepticism about its latest direction. A fervent devotee of the original, I remember responding with incredulity when a full-3D sequel was announced back in 2017. After sinking over 150 hours in that game I became a full-fledged convert, so much so that I now find myself with a paradoxically similar set of doubts: am I ready, or even willing, to smash my escape-pod door open and resume dealing death in a side-scrolling 2D world once again?.. There was a specific satisfaction in Risk of Rain that I could never get in its fantastic sequel : putting my back to the wall as the riot cop-esque Enforcer, planting my shield in the ground and tanking an endless stream of enemies for my entire co-op squad.
