- Pirate Commander - DevLog #12 - 12 May 2025
Ahoy! In today’s devlog, we want to show you a bit of the world we’ve designed for the game—one that you’ll be able to explore with your crew and your ship. Keep in mind, though, that the places you visit might hide valuable treasures, but they also come with dangers. Sometimes, you’ll run into trouble, like the Trade Company trying to stop you. In this post, we’ll give you a closer look at a few interesting locations you can visit on the map—and what you might expect to find there. The Quiet Shores – Fishing Village "Aye, the fish be fresh an’ the winds be calm... but don’t expect more than a dry biscuit and a silent stare." — Old Red Flit, sailor and lover of quiet ports One of the locations you can visit is a peaceful fishing village. This small settlement offers basic supplies—most importantly, food, which becomes crucial for aiding the nearby burned city. Nothing out of the ordinar…

- Pirate Commander - DevLog #11 - 22 January 2025
Ahoy! Finally, we can show you a glimpse of what we’ve been working on over the past few weeks. What would a pirate game be without the most exciting way to fight and plunder enemy ships? Of course, we’re talking about boarding... Not only will you be able to destroy enemy ships from a distance, but with a bit of luck, you’ll also get close enough to board their vessel. This way, you can not only earn more rewards but also save on potentially expensive repairs to your own ship! But before you can engage in boarding, you need to prepare properly. The first step is to go to the ship management screen and select the appropriate menu option to assign sailors for combat. In this window, you can place sailors in specific locations on the deck, allowing you, as the captain, to decide where each crew member will fight. The second part involves selecting equipment. The game offers three weapons:…

Ahoy! In today's DevLog, we will provide you with information about crew management on the ship. This is one of the most important tasks for any captain, as well-given orders and well-planned actions not only allow for optimal preparation for each battle but also ensure the economy of our ship is well taken care of. Remember, what we’re showing is still a work in progress, so expect some elements of the interface to be further polished. Upon entering the side view of the ship, the player will be able to access the crew assignment view. At the bottom of the screen, a panel with thumbnails of available sailors will be displayed. This panel will show the sailor's name and basic attributes, such as strength, dexterity, and perception. If we select a sailor, we will also see their full profile panel, including details like their experience level and how much more experience they need to reac…

Ahoy Captains! Today, we will give another glimpse of combat and ship management mechanics - cabin damage system. During the combat, enemy ships can damage your ship sections and, therefore, take our guns out of action. This is the immediate effect during combat, but the consequences of taking damage are more serious. When the combat is finished, we can go to the ship management view and take a look at the damage done during the battle to each cabin in the section. It is important to note that we lost the HP section during the combat, which summarizes the cabin's HP. When the combat is over, this damage is allocated to each cabin. From the ship management view, we can see which cabin is damaged. Take a look at the visualization of each damage threshold: Cabins without damage Cabins with minor damage Cabins with moderate damage Cabins with significant damage Of course, based on the avail…

Ahoy Captains! After some time, we are now getting back to you with an update about the mechanics we have been working on lately to improve the tactical aspect of range naval combat. Let's delve into the heart of naval combat tactics-distance and maneuvers. First, let's talk about distance. It's not just a number on your screen but a crucial factor in naval combat. It determines your chance of hitting and the damage you deal. Keep an eye on the distance indicator on the left side of your UI to know how far you are from the enemy. The second element of tactic is performing special skills that we call maneuvers. The maneuvers are based on the captain's order, which tells the crew what to do and how to steer the ship. In this post, we will scratch the surface of this part, and we will discuss only four basic maneuvers: Salvo! - The captain motivates sailors to double their efforts when loa…

Ahoy Captains! It is time to show you a little bit more about ranged combat with enemy ships. Therefore today we will show you some insights about the ship damage system. As we have mentioned last time, the ship is divided into several sections: Each section has parameters associated with it, such as hit points, armor, difficulty of hitting, and some special properties. Additionally, each section may contain cabins that significantly affect the further course of the battle. For example, destroying an ammunition depot can lead to a dangerous ignition and fire, and destroying a section full of guns can significantly weaken the offensive power of the opponent. Now let us show you how section damage progresses on different parts of the ship: SAILS: DECK: STERN: MIDDLE DECK: LOWER DECK: PROW: In order to win the combat you must be faster than the opponent to destroy at least four of six sect…

Over the last few days, we have been working on one of the key elements of the game, which is sea battles. Today we are going to tell you a little bit about the direction we are heading in and our plans about combat in game, so you can give us some feedback. This article is just an initial part that shows only the fracture of the entire combat mechanic that we have in plans. More about it like maneuvers, sail management will come! The battle begins in the exploration view where we can encounter other ships sailing endless oceans and countless islands. It's hard to name the other ships hostile, after all, we are the pirates, so woe to everyone in our path! After selecting an opponent and entering into range, the actual battle begins. We play the fight from a slightly different view than during exploration. The initial battle view is presented below: The combat takes place in real-time. A…

- Pirate Commander - DevLog #5 - 1 March 2024
Ahoy Pirate! In the last devlog, we wrote about the so-called POIs (Point of Interest) that symbolise important gameplay elements in the exploration view. Today we want to tell you a little more about ports and sectors. The game map itself is divided into sectors that the player will travel in. Each sector will have a specific Tier, and on this basis the player will be able to decide whether he wants to go there. The higher the tier, the game becomes more difficult and the more demanding the challenges are, but also the greater the reward. Below, you can see the boundaries of the different sectors. Within each sector, apart from the POIs presented in the previous post, the player will be able to visit ports and use their benefits. In the following, we will discuss the first batch of buildings that may appear in a given port. The number of functional buildings there are in a port can var…

Hello sailors! The captain and his crew must travel through many distant lands on their way to wealth and glory. To survive the dangers lurking there, you will first need to prepare both the ship and the crew. To do this, you need to collect the necessary resources and properly build the ship, ensuring that you have enough gold for your crew pay and enough supply of cheering potion for sea wolves - rum. There are several resources that you can gather in Pirate Commander during the exploration of the Archipelago. Some examples of them are as follows: 1. wood - the basic building material for both the ship and the cabins 2. metal - is an essential raw material for creating metal elements of the ship, including cabins and weapons as well as tools to repair the ship 3. herbs - a raw material used by alchemists to brew healing potions necessary for each sea wolf to heal after the combat 4. g…

Hello sailors! Everyone knows that a pirate captain's home is her/his ship, which is why everyone takes care of it as if it were their most precious treasure. In Pirate Commander it will be no different. To make everyone feel at home on their ship, we want to give players the opportunity to make their own decisions about how your ship is built. Therefore, the entire ship has been divided into slots in which the player chooses what to build. As a result it is up to you what will be available on your ship, and where. This is particularly important because, during a naval battle, we do not want the bullets to hit our ammunition stockpile. Not only will we lose cannonballs, but we will get even more damage because of the extra explosion. Now let us give you some examples of what you will be able to build. The first type of cabins you can build are warehouses. This is where your crew will st…

Aye Sailors! Some time has passed since our last post, so we are coming back to you with a bunch of new information about the progress of our work. Today we will discuss one of the most important Pirate Commander game perspectives called "Navigation View". An Navigation view is a view where you can observe the game from the isometric perspective. Thanks to that you are able to plan your next actions based on the surroundings, and explore the unknown parts of the world map! https://i.imgur.com/CVoA3iD.gif In this view, your task as the captain would be to explore subsequent sectors (one example is shown below) of the world, where numerous dangers and treasures await you. While exploring the world of Pirate Commander, you will look for hidden treasures or search through the old, forgotten shipwrecks. Searching for them will often turn out to be just a waste of time, but sometimes in their…
