- Superfly v1.3.1 Update - 22 December 2023
Hi everyone, it’s the day you never thought would come again… We’re releasing another update! This update includes building destruction, and… our very first cosmetics! Two features we know you guys have been asking about for years. Now for a little bit more about this surprise holiday update. Starting with building destruction! As it so happens, Dr. Suffers years of mindless chaos has caused just a little bit of issues with upkeeping the city. So, you’ll notice as you fly that there are now some new construction zones to interact with. These will look like plain concrete buildings with construction gear around the outside. At these zones, not only can you destroy the buildings to your hearts content, you can also go inside them! Granted, they’re under construction, so there’s not much inside. But, we can’t wait to see you fulfill your superhero dreams by finally slamming the robots thro…
- Superfly v1.2.3 Update - 2 June 2023
Hi everyone! We’re back with another update for y’all. This minor update adds clearer story mode progression, more sounds for some of our newer enemies, updates the tutorial voice lines, and fixes several bugs. Now, when you start up the game for the first time, you will be presented with a difficulty selection screen. As always, you can change your difficulty any time from Settings > Gameplay as well, but we wanted to make it more user friendly for first time players. Along that same line, we added a gear collection progress bar for story mode so you can see your progress in real time. You’ll also be able to hear your progress in real time, as new voice lines from Dr. Suffer play every time you unlock a new power. And keep your ears open, some of Dr. Suffers lines have been updated to include real meows from our team’s actual IRL cats! Besides adding more Dr. Suffer, we also took some…
- Superfly v1.2.2 Update - 8 May 2023
Hi everyone! It’s the moment you’ve all been secretly waiting for… the new Wanted System update is live now! Prepare to have a new life breathed into the city of Superfly. With more difficulty progression than ever before, a brand-new health system, 11 (yes, ELEVEN!) new and unique enemies, and updated building graphics, there’s something for all of you! Don’t worry, some of your familiar favorite enemies are still there too… but a couple of them might look a little different. (don’t tell them that, they get a little self-conscious.) Now on to the fun stuff! The major change in this update is the brand new Wanted System, which also allowed us to introduce 11 new enemies to our roster, each with unique different abilities. You might remember Dr. Suffer is looking to find you after you escaped from his lab. Well, now your destruction comes with consequences! As you fly around the city “sa…
- Superfly in Humble Bundle (+ Our plans for the next update) - 19 April 2023
Hello everyone! This is a very special announcement. We are so excited to announce that Superfly is part of Humble Bundle's In Your Face VR bundle! We are working with Humble Bundle to support SpecialEffect and AbleGamers! Both of these charities work to support people with disabilities in playing games. They also work with developers to help them develop more accessible games or help guide them to make their games compatible with specialized equipment. We are so very happy to be helping the cause, and we hope you’ll choose to help support these amazing charities! The bundle includes many great games, (such as Superfly) as well as popular games like Zenith: The Last City, Wanderer, Rumble VR, and more! We highly recommend you check it out and help us support some awesome charities. bundle runs from April 19th to May 8th On another note, we're currently working on another major update to…
- Superfly v1.1.4 Update - 13 March 2023
We're back with another update for Superfly! This update is all about sounds. The audio of Superfly admittedly hasn't been our focus for a while now, but this update should help significantly with that. First of all, we've added or updated sounds for all the powers in the game. Lots of abilities that were previously silent or that had placeholder sounds now have full sound effects, which gives a great extra level of feedback as you're playing the game. We also improved on the ambient sounds in the game, with varying ambiences for different regions of the city, as well as better ambient sounds for all the cars and blimps. We also have a few improvements to the game that aren't related to sounds. First, we reworked the grapple hook sidegrade for the web power to have much better physics - this updated mode is my new favorite movement mode in the entire game. Try it out, and keep moving fo…
- Superfly v1.1.3 Update - 18 February 2023
Hi everyone! We've got another Superfly update for you. This minor update focuses on quality of life features and performance improvements. The biggest new feature is a help section of the pause menu that explains the controls for each power. This might not be a big deal for expert players, but we hope it'll make it easier for new players to jump into the game and have fun. We've also got several quality of life improvements: new visuals for the giant and black hole modes, and new sounds for the UI and tutorial room. This update should also greatly improve performance on low-end devices, especially the Quest 1. If you're having any performance issues at all after this update, please let us know in our Discord what was going on in the game when it happened. Thanks! We're working on bigger future updates for Superfly. One major feature we're planning to add is a wanted system, inspired by…
- Superfly v1.1.1 Update - 21 December 2022
Hi, we've got some exciting news: a new giant update for Superfly is out now! This update is giant in two ways: not only does it add the most new content of any update yet, but it adds four new powers, including a Giant mode where you can grow to be as tall as a skyscraper! The other new powers include a Blink mode where you can quickly teleport and dash around the city, a Telekinesis mode that lets you freely fly and pick up cars and enemies, and a Portals mode that lets you place any number of pairs of portals that connect spots around the city. Each new power has the usual set of customizations and sidegrades - maybe you want to shrink down instead of grow giant, or you want to fire powerful energy blasts instead of telekinetically grabbing cars - the choice is yours! The update doesn't end there. We totally redesigned the game's UI to be prettier and more intuitive. We added 5 new r…
- Superfly v1.0.6 Update - 9 August 2022
Hi! We're back with another update for Superfly. This update was focused on closing the final gap between the PC version of Superfly and the Quest version: social features. The Steam version of Superfly has had achievements and leaderboard integration for a while now, and as of this update, the Quest version finally has them too. If you just play on the PC, this update has stuff for you too! We fixed a longstanding bug with the Lightning Super sidegrade - it should now be much easier to use now, especially while sitting down. We also added new billboard art, all designed by members of the Superfly community! I'd also like to share our updated plans for the future of Superfly. The past couple months have been huge for us, we've seen an amazing surge of support for the game. As a result, we're actively working on adding major new content to the game. We're currently prototyping several ne…
- Superfly v1.0.5 Update - 27 July 2022
Hey! We're back with another update for Superfly. This minor update adds a couple quality of life changes and several bug fixes that should make the game feel and work a lot better for players. This includes adding a setting to swap the Grip and Trigger buttons just for the lightning mode, as well as adding better performance and graphics on our Quest port. We were also able to resolve the smooth turning issue that several of you have been reporting – please let us know if you’re still experiencing this bug after the update. While we’re still working on some of the things we mentioned in our last announcement – like porting to mobile VR headsets and globalization – we’ve also been brainstorming behind the scenes. With the recent success of the Quest release, our team has been considering giving Superfly just a little more content to help flesh it out more thoroughly. This may come in th…
- Superfly v1.0.4 Update - 11 July 2022
Hi there! We're back with another update for Superfly. This minor update adds a few quality of life features that should make the game more enjoyable for new players and expert players alike. New players will appreciate the objective notifications we've added to Story Mode that guide you through all the objectives and boss fights - this doesn't add any new content, but the extra structure should make the mode feel like a much more natural progression. For expert players, we've added two secret Steam achievements. (And no, I'm not going to just say what they are - they wouldn't be much of a secret then, would they?) On top of that, we have the usual assortment of minor improvements: new graphics for rooftop objects, some bug fixes for physics and leaderboards, and so on. Now that Superfly's in full release, we aren't planning to add any major new content to the game. We're currently work…
- Superfly Full Release - 18 June 2022
Hello, We have two exciting announcements to share with you. First, Superfly is officially leaving Early Access. We are now in full release! Check out our new trailer on our Store page! We’ve got a ton of new content for you: a giant new turret boss, updated controls for all the movement modes, greatly improved performance, and a variety of extra game modes (upside-down city! 10x more powerful flight!). All these new features are live now on both the PC and Quest versions of Superfly. Second, Superfly is out now on Quest! Over the last couple of years, we’ve heard your constant requests to bring Superfly to the Quest headset. Almost exactly one year ago today, we started working on our port to the Quest 1 and Quest 2. With the help of our development team and our beta testers from our Discord, your dream has become a reality! Superfly is out on the Quest App Lab Store, AVAILABLE NOW! Wi…
- Superfly v0.10.2 Update - 11 April 2022
We're back with another update for Superfly! This is only a minor update, focused on fixing bugs and adding social features. The main new feature is a brand new leaderboard! All those gears you collect in game will now be reflected on our website. Compete with your fellow VR users and friends to see who can get the most gears! Updates have been slow recently because we're focusing most of our effort on porting Superfly to the Oculus Quest. We're making good progress: the port should be ready sometime between May and July! The Quest version will be almost the same as the Steam version, with a couple minor differences. First, the Quest version will have improved controls and hand physics, as we're updating our input code to incorporate years of new technology in VR. Second, the Quest version will have significantly worse graphics quality - this is a necessary compromise to get decent FPS,…
- Superfly v0.10.1 Update - 8 January 2022
This minor update focuses on fixing a few bugs in the game. It should resolve an issue where collecting gears didn't unlock new powers in Story Mode, and another issue where all sidegrades were locked even in Free Play mode. These issues were inconsistent and only impacted a small number of users, so it's difficult to be 100% sure they're fixed - if you still experience either of these bugs, please let us know so we can keep searching for a fix. Our current plan is to focus on fixing a few more bugs from the 0.10.0 update related to the tutorial room, then to continue adding content. We're working on adding a third boss robot, and we want to update the worm boss to match the new combat system. We also have plans to improve physical interactions with the existing blimps and boats, to tweak the city generation, and to improve the controls for some sidegrades. After all of that, we're plan…
- Superfly v0.10.0 Update - 25 December 2021
It's been a while, but we're back with the latest major update to Superfly! This update brings Story Mode, a work-in-progress game mode that teaches the game and lets you unlock powers and sidegrades over time. The mode starts with a new and improved tutorial. After that, you need to collect gears all around the city to unlock new powers and sidegrades: 10 gears per power, and an increasing number for each sidegrade. If unlocking things over time isn't for you, don't worry, you can play the full Superfly experience immediately in Free Play mode. This update also brings major performance improvements related to the game physics. Behind the scenes, this works by changing the physics tick rate to be slower than the frame rate, so the expensive physics calculations run less often. You can control this tick rate with the Physics Detail option in the game's settings menu. Setting the Physics…
- Superfly v0.9.4 Update - 24 September 2021
The Superfly v0.9.4 update is live! Apologizes that this took so long to get out. Our main developer had to move to another country for grad school, so he hasn't had nearly as much time to work on the project. If you've been playing on the beta branch all this time, you'll already be familiar with the changes. We added a new combat system, along with EMP attacks that disable your movement modes and hacking attacks that can defeat the player. This also adds two new enemy types, hacking orbs and EMP-spiders. Alongside this new defeat mechanic, we added a difficulty slider, going from Invincible all the way to Insane. We also fixed several bugs, you can see which ones below. Thanks again for your patience! Superfly v0.9.3 Changelog: Added a new combat system, with EMP attacks that disable your movement modes and hacking attacks that can defeat the player Added two new enemy variants: hacki…
- Superfly v0.9.2 Update - 13 July 2021
This update adds new controls options for general movement, with toggles for smooth turning and for your walk direction to follow your head instead of your hand. It also modifies the Time Dilation sidegrade for the Speed mode to have more consistent controls - you now just need to hold the grip button to slow down time. There are a number of minor audio and visual improvements, including new sounds for several sidegrades and a new design for the main menu screen. It's been a while since our last update - our lead developer was sick and unable to work on Superfly for a month or so. You can expect new content to be coming out much faster from now on! We're currently prototyping a new combat system (including a new version of player health), and we hope to have a beta version of that ready for playtesting in 3-4 weeks. Longer term, we're also working on a story mode for Superfly, which wil…
- Superfly v0.9.1 - 26 May 2021
This update adds a huge new feature to Superfly: power customization! You can use the in-game menu to enable sidegrades for each of the movement modes, which alter the abilities and physics of the mode. Each sidegrade completely changes how the associated power plays: for example, the Thruster power has an Explosion sidegrade that lets you charge up explosions, then let them loose for a burst of speed. Each of the 8 movement modes has two unique sidegrades, and you can enable one or both at once, for over 900 different combinations across both hands! We also added a new movement mode, the much-requested Speed mode! Just like various popular superspeed heroes, you can sprint along the ground, run up walls, and jump across building rooftops. You can attack enemies by running into them – you’re moving so fast that you can crash through enemies like a wrecking ball! This update also brings…
- Superfly v0.8.2 - 13 April 2021
First, a non-game announcement: we're having a raffle on our Discord server! Join us and check out the raffle channel for a chance to get one of your ideas on a billboard in Superfly! This update brings some improvements to the world's visuals and physics, as well as a few bugfixes. The rooftop objects look nicer, have interactive physics, and take up a lot less disk space. The leaderboard's gotten a UI overhaul and should be more intuitive now. In addition, we've fixed a couple bugs - one caused the blimps to vanish if you got too close, and another caused a crash if you fought the worm boss twice too quickly. Many thanks to the players on Discord who reported these bugs! Changelog: Updated the rooftop objects to have nicer graphics and more interactive physics Updated the street objects to have more variety Updated the leaderboard UI to be prettier and more intuitive Updated the game…
- Superfly v0.8.1 - 27 March 2021
This update brings a few minor quality-of-life improvements to the game. The worm boss got boss music to make the fight a bit more exciting, along with roaring sound effects for when it appears and dies. We're currently working on more sound effects, which should be ready for the next update. This update also brings a number of minor bug fixes and performance improvements. In particular, the game should be noticeably faster in the few seconds after you load in to the city scene. We're currently working on adding a new superpower, adding new bosses, and updating the procedural city generation. Once this next superpower is released, we plan to let the community choose what superpowers we'll add next - details coming soon. In the meantime, join us on Discord to stay up to date and to share your feedback directly with the devs! Changelog: New music and sound effects for the worm boss Update…
- Superfly v0.8.0 - 11 March 2021
The long-awaited update for Superfly is here, bringing a giant robot worm boss fight, a new superpower, and Steam achievements! You have to defeat the boss to unlock the new superpower – fight it at the giant red beacon of light. The boss is a giant mechanical worm! It's made of a bunch of linked segments, and each segment has its own health bar. Despite the worm's size, it's still fully-physics based, so you can knock it around with your powers or even hold it in place. Once you beat the boss, you unlock a new superpower, the black hole mode! With this mode, you can throw black holes at the environment, then use the Trigger button to suck in everything nearby. If you suck yourself towards the black hole and release at the right time, you go flying forwards! We're currently working on some minor tweaks to this new content: adding boss music, improving performance, and so on. If the boss…
