It’s time the devils had their due. Persona Central (thanks Destructoid ) reported that, according to a statement released from Atlus via Japanese games mag Famitsu , Shin Megami Tensei 5 has sold over 800,000 copies since launch. That’s pretty good for a series that didn’t arrive outside of Japan until its third entry for the PS2 in 2003. For comparison, the last numbered entry in the series, Shin Megami Tensei 4 on the 3DS, sold 600,000 across its lifetime. And 5 has only been out a couple of months, so it seems likely that it will reach a million in due time. It might also spell positive things for future games under the rather large franchise umbrella that also includes the Persona subseries. - Square Enix announces Bravely Default 2 sells a million - 22 December 2021
RPG Site reports that Square Enix announced via its website that Bravely Default 2 has surpassed one million units sold across all platforms. We already knew that the game sold 950,000 on the Switch alone, but its recent Steam release has pushed the game past the million milestone, an impressive number for a genre that many underestimate the popularity of. To commemorate this achievement, Square Enix is having a sale in Japan as well as a contest open to Japanese residents where they can win a gift card or an art print by artist Naoki Ikushima. The illustration features the four main characters above a stylized million number and the word “Thanks!” It’s a bit of a tradition for a celebratory illustration to commemorate a Square Enix JRPG’s success, and it’s cool that a fan will get to have it now too. The publisher just announced that the old-school role-playing adventure is on the way to Steam in September, just over six months after its initial release on Switch. It's the first time Square Enix's RPG series has appeared anywhere other than on Nintendo machines, and if excitable RPS treehouse messages from Katharine are any indication, it's good news for genre fans.
