- git commit programming-fest-2026 - 10 September 2026
Hey everyone! I know I didn't make an announcement for the first content pack drops last month since it overlapped with the Fishagon Showcase. But now we're in the Programming Fest 2026! Super excited for this festival as last year's Automation Festival after release was a massive growth in the user base that motivated me to really dedicate time to expanding and improving the simulation. I hope everyone who joins us from this festival enjoys the game, learns some new commands, and dedicates to never forgetting how useful git bisect is (it's my favorite command by the way)!As a quick tease here's the schedule of upcoming content pack releases!Out NowBranch Strategy Bootcamp Gamedev Tournament Crisis (FREE)September 14th Clean History CraftsmanWorktree MasteryOctober 12th Disaster Recovery & Release Engineer Academy November 9th Code Archaeologist & Open Source Apprentice... and more to a…

- v1.6.1: Challenge 69 Adjustments - 2 August 2026
Hey! This is primarily a fix for Challenge 69 having some bad hints, but also came across some bugs and improvements to the simulation for edge case solutions. As since a few updates back, this is now part of the ever growing unit tests for what has become a massive simulation. Hopefully we won't see any regressions around this challenge now that the tests around it have grown by four times. It's been probably the highest reported issue challenge of them all since launch. Also I just want to flag that the Content Packs I teased in January are still coming and should be announced this month with the hope to have 1 or 2 of them released at the same time! Along with that there will be some other Fishagon games announced then, so if you want to support the studio give them a wishlist too! Thanks everyone! Changelog 1.6.1Git Simulation Improvements- Commit-ish resolution is now shared by eve…
- v1.6.0: git gud gui - 23 May 2026
Hello! The update might not look huge by the changelog, but I can assure you this is a massive update. The Windows version of git gud was running on .Net 4.8, the Linux and Mac versions were running on .Net 6 and weirdly enough my test framework was running .Net 8 haha. Now all three versions have been updated to .Net 10. And the really big change. Most of the negative reviews about git gud revolve around issues with how the game works in different distros of Linux. Some of them my launch_gitgud.sh was able to open the game into a nice looking terminal and sometimes it couldn't. This is largely due to the Steam Linux Runtime. That runtime doesn't always inherit your settings, installed terminals, or editors. I now have two different solutions. The first is the same as before. launch_gitgud.sh has been significantly refactored and is now much better at opening in your terminal and using y…
- v1.5.3: Submodules Validator Adjustment - 23 March 2026
Hey all,Quick update to fix a bug that limited the possible solutions to challenge 88. Changelog v1.5.3Bug Fixes- Fixed some over-strict validators around submodules (thanks WerFEST)
- v1.5.2: Serbian Translations & Demos Localized - 5 February 2026
Hey,This is a translation update. rammba made a pull request to the git gud i18n repo to add Serbian in both cyrillic and latin characters! I've also made improvements to how i18n works on git gud. Previously all business logic was in the same files as the English base strings. That has now been entirely stripped into proper translation files. So the repo now contains the base English files to use as reference without owning the game or looking through its files. I'm excited to have another language added to the list and I hope it helps more people learn about Git! On another note, I have noticed about 6% of all traffic to the Steam page comes from China. We currently do not have Simplified or Traditional Chinese support, but if you would like to see that please do leave a comment below or pop into the discord and offer some help in translating it! Changelog 1.5.2Translation Update- Str…
- v1.5.1: Challenge 45 Fix & Demo Catchup - 28 January 2026
Hey,Very small little patch note to fix a reported issue with v1.5.0 challenge 45. As well the demos were behind on v1.4.2, so they've been updated to 1.5.1 as well. Changelog 1.5.1Fixed issue with CommitReorder validator blocking Challenge 45 (thanks Pomegranatik)
- v1.5.0: New Year Update - 6 January 2026
Happy New Year!It has been 203 days since the release of git gud, and I’m incredibly grateful for how many people have played and enjoyed the game. Hopefully, everyone has picked up a new Git command or two along the way as well. This update is a big one, the largest so far. One of the most important additions is the new Content Pack system, which is the plan going forward for continued development. Content packs will introduce new sets of challenges built around themed, real-world–style scenarios. Each pack will be low cost (around a dollar or two) and will go on sale whenever the base game does. It’s important to me to keep git gud accessible while still being able to justify the time required to add meaningful new content and improvements. The first content pack will be releasing shortly alongside an introductory sale. You may notice that this update includes a lot of changes. While so…
- Beta Branch: v1.5.0 & macOS Support - 3 January 2026
Hey everyone,v1.5.0 will be releasing in a few days, and it’s a major update. This release includes a large number of improvements, fixes, and new functionality. One of the biggest highlights is initial macOS support.I don’t currently have reliable access to a macOS testing environment, so community testing would be incredibly helpful. If you’re on macOS and willing to test the update, your feedback would be greatly appreciated. The v1.5.0 branch is available now via Steam Beta. To access it, right-click the game in your library, select Properties, then Betas, and opt into the v1.5.0 branch. This is available to all players, including those on macOS.Full changelogs will be posted closer to the official release. Please provide any feedback or bug reports for this beta build in either: Steam Discussions DiscordThanks again for all the support!
- v1.4.2 - 2 December 2025
Changelog 1.4.2Fixed branch --move targeting (thanks Mellow Geek)
- v1.4.1: Quality of Life 2 - 17 November 2025
Hey everyone,I was at a conference recently showcasing Fishagon's games including git gud (and the newly released DexSweeper) and some of the suggestions from players prompted a small quality of life update that I think bring a large impact with minimal changes. I'm not sure what the next major update for git gud will be, but I have some long term plans for updates in the next year. If anyone has thoughts of what they would like to see feel free to reach out on the Steam Discussions or on the Discord! Thanks again for playing everyone. Changelog 1.4.1Revised the hints for challenge 4Hint quantity now displays in the responseFixed handling of single quote characters
- v1.4.0: Localization - 29 September 2025
Hey everyone,I've been working on refactoring the game for awhile to support localization in the menus, intro to git, and challenges. It was a pretty significant refactor and I also had to coordinate with a localization team that I was able to source for the first 6 additional languages. Changelog 1.4.0Added LocalizationsGermanFrenchRussianUkrainianPolishBrazilian PortugueseAdded a new "Back" game command (thanks Ondi for requesting)Improved validation for challenge 56 (thanks ryoku)Improved validation for challenge 90 (thanks Max Hetfield)Fixed git log single parameter handling (thanks Smokey)As I do not speak any of the languages, I have not been able to verify significantly if they properly convey the purpose of the original meanings in the game. And if you find any issues you can report them in the following thread on Steam DiscussionsLocalization Feedback & ReportsAnd if you would…
- v1.4.0: Beta Localization - 26 September 2025
Hey everyone,I've been working on refactoring the game for awhile to support localization in the menus, intro to git, and challenges. It was a pretty significant refactor and I also had to coordinate with a localization team that I was able to source for the first four languages. As I do not speak any of the languages, I have not been able to verify significantly if they properly convey the purpose of the original meanings in the game. Hopefully some of you will be happy to help us test this content before it goes live on Monday. if you would like to join the beta and switch over to the dev-branch it can be found in the game properties like in the image below. And if you find any issues you can report them in the following thread on Steam DiscussionsLocalization Feedback & ReportsAnd if you would like to actually help contribute to the localization of these 4 languages or add additional…
- v1.3.0: Quality of Life - 13 July 2025
A lot of feedback since release could be categorized under "Quality of Life" features that were missing at release. Most notably people have been bringing up the ability to tab complete things like file names and commands. Happy to announce git gud now supports that and much more! And now that we have a nice suite of quality of life features out of the way; we are on to the next major update: Sandbox & Steam Workshop Support. Soon the community will be able to make their own challenges and share them! Once again, I want to thank everyone who has played git gud!Changelog 1.3.0Word WrappingTab Auto-CompleteCommand Chaining (&& and ; support)Custom History HandlingMassive Refactor to Command FlagsUpdated the "git help" CommandFixed validation for challenge 26 (thanks Epsilon Theta)
- v1.3.0 in Beta Branch - 11 July 2025
Hey everyone! The "Quality of Life" update was a rather large refactor of a lot of parts of git gud, however it adds a lot of features that were being requested such as tab completion, word wrapping, command chaining, and more. However, due to the nature of the update potentially causing issues I am currently putting it in the dev-branch that any of you can join now. Just right click on git gud in the library and click Properties. Then go to Betas and you'll see a dropdown with the dev-branch available. Changes in Beta: - Word Wrapping- Tab Auto-Complete- Massive Refactor to Command Flags- Custom History Handling- Updated the "git help" Command- Fixed validation for challenge 26 (thanks Epsilon Theta) Report any bugs while testing to the following Steam Discussion thread https://steamcommunity.com/app/1490570/discussions/0/596280128149944187/
- v1.2.2: RevList & Log Validator Changes - 23 June 2025
Changelog - 1.2.2- Adjusted hints for Challenge 98- Relaxed Rev List validator (thanks fortunexxxx & revenge)- Added support for many syntaxes to LogValidators (thanks Nomiswelt)
- v1.2.1: RebaseValidator Hotfix - 22 June 2025
Hey guys,This is just a very small hotfix. The Commit Ancestory Notation update yesterday caused some issues with a few validators in the RebaseValidator set. dminsky pointed this out in discord and I got to work refactoring the rebase validators to be a bit more flexible to different input scenarios. These are some of the most complicated validators in the project, so hopefully we have now caught all the scenarios around them. Sorry about that everyone!Changelog - 1.2.1- Fix for RebaseValidators (thanks dminsky)
- v1.2.0: Intro to Git - 21 June 2025
When I originally started git gud I had no idea how many people would play it and have little to no experience. So I've added a new, short, introduction to Git called "Intro to Git" that can be played in both the full game and the demo version!Hopefully this new mode will give you enough information on how to proceed going into the Challenge Mode!Changelog 1.2.0- Intro to Git Mode Added- Refactor for Commit Ancestor Notation- Initial implementation for Commit Parent Notation
- Patch v1.1.1 - 20 June 2025
Another quick update of fixes for the bugs reported on the discussions page and the Discord. And just and update on bigger changes, the next addition to the game will likely be an "Introduction to Git" mode. There have been more players than I anticipated interested in the game that don't have much of a background in Git. These will be simple challenges that inform the player about the basic concepts of Git, Repositories, and how to use the official documentation & help commands. Hopefully these will act as a "tutorial" that will lead you into playing the featured Challenge Mode and reduce the reliance on using hints. Changelog 1.1.1- Adjusted hints for challenge 4- Added HEAD reference syntax to Push command (thanks adamsogm)- Added support for branch --delete --force flag combination (thanks jazck & Cyril)- Fixed reset detection with commits squashed validator (thanks adamsogm)- Fixed…
