- Desktop+ v.3.6.1 Beta - 5 October 2026
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Added setting to adjust menu alignment of the Overlay Bar This is mainly to address the SteamVR dashboard being always on top when streaming to a Steam Frame, covering the Overlay Bar menus. This defaults to bottom-aligned menus when using a Steam Frame, but anyone can adjust this to personal preference. It's an advanced setting (hidden by default). That being said, if the situation changes, this might be removed again. Added setting to adjust GPU priority for Desktop+ In general this only changes things if you're GPU-bound. What value makes sense depends on your objective. In a regular VR game you probably want it lower, but for flatscreen games without frame limit you might want Desktop+ to have more chances to render the screen capture. Or just leave it at Normal. This is also an advanced setting. Changed: Moved Overlay Bar posi…
- Desktop+ v.3.6 - 14 August 2026
What's new in Desktop+ 3.6? Desktop+ 3.6 reduces GPU memory usage while idle, adds eye tracking support for Gaze Fade, and features adjustments for the current SteamVR beta build alongside other minor fixes. Reduced GPU memory usage Desktop+ now frees several intermediate textures required for processing when Desktop Duplication capture is being paused. It now also explicitly signals the cleanup of Direct3D resources that were previously only cleared by the video driver roughly a minute after they were released by the application. Practical improvements depend on screen resolution and number of desktops. Eye Tracking Support for Gaze Fade Gaze Fade can now optionally use eye tracking to determine the gaze direction. Eye tracking has to be bound and valid in the HMD's Desktop+ input bindings for the option to show up. This shouldn't be an issue unless you've had custom input bindings for…
- Desktop+ v.3.5.2 Beta - 21 July 2026
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Added eye tracking support for Gaze Fade Eye tracking has to be bound and valid in the HMD's Desktop+ input bindings for the option to show up. This shouldn't be an issue unless you've had custom input bindings for your HMD specifically before this. Default bindings are provided for "Generic HMD", which applies to any HMD as a fallback. Also note that for Steam Link users, access of eye tracking data for other applications has to be enabled in the SteamVR Steam Link settings. Fixed: Fixed desktops at negative coordinates being pass-through for Desktop+' own laser pointer (contributed by besauce) Fixed launching Desktop+ while UI is running standalone causing outdated configuration to be used Various other minor UI fixes and adjustments Eye tracking support is very experimental. In short: I don't actually have any HMD with eye track…
- Desktop+ v.3.5.1 Beta - 18 June 2026
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Reduced GPU memory usage during idle Changed: Updated Steam Frame Controller bindings to match official VR Dashboard ones Fixed: Fixed GPU memory leak on Desktop Duplication reset (occurs when switching resolutions, entering exclusive fullscreen, switching to secure desktop) Fixed Floating UI clipping into overlays in SteamVR 2.17.1 or newer Various other minor UI fixes and adjustments
- Desktop+ v.3.5 - 3 June 2026
What's new in Desktop+ 3.5? Desktop+ 3.5 mainly comes with a series of fixes to keep up with ongoing changes from SteamVR updates, but there are also some other minor improvements and very appreciated community contributions. Theater Screen Fixes Theater Screen origin overlays broke at the beginning of this year with the release of SteamVR 2.15.1. As it stands I still don't know if I was supposed to something specific to fix it on Desktop+' end or it's a regression in SteamVR. In the meantime I figured out an alternative way to make it work. This fix is on a brittle foundation and may break with future SteamVR updates. Entering Theater Mode can fail under some conditions. If the Theater Mode isn't restored automatically on startup or profile load, entering it/showing the overlay manually should work. Other related fixes include Theater Screen origin overlays not applying capture source…
- Desktop+ v.3.4.2 Beta - 18 May 2026
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. Fixed: Fixed Desktop+ Laser Pointer visuals not applying custom SteamVR controller offsets This requires Desktop+ to manually position the laser very frame, which may lag behind the actual controller position a bit. There is no change for unadjusted controller offsets, where one-time controller-relative positioning keeps being used. However, if you notice controller offset detection misfiring, please report.
- Desktop+ v.3.4.1 Beta - 15 April 2026
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Added default bindings for Steam Link Hand Tracking These bindings are very limited, but mirror the default VR Dashboard ones in this regard. Main motivation for these is to get proper tip offsets by not falling back to simulating another controller, but this is untested at this time. Added warning when the legacy SteamVR dashboard is active Support for the SteamVR legacy dashboard is generally limited, making it not recommended. Issues there are still tackled on a best-effort basis, however. Changed: Dashboard origin overlays can be freely positioned again while the SteamVR legacy dashboard is active Internal changes to SteamVR make it infeasible to fully restore the functionality, but it works again within the Desktop+ dashboard tab. Dashboard origin overlays can still be set to display outside of it, but their position will not…
- Desktop+ v.3.4 - 28 February 2026
What's new in Desktop+ 3.4? Desktop+ 3.4 features a new Performance Monitor style, overlay origin smoothing, new community keyboard layouts and various other fixes and improvements. Performance Monitor Enhancements The Performance Monitor remained largely untouched since its introduction 5 years ago. This version adds more options to customize the look of it. One of those options is a new style: Minimal Sometimes less is less and just what you want. This style allows for a one-line set of performance metrics and might be preferred when attached somewhere to your view in seated games instead of the typical use of docking the Performance Monitor to your tracked controller. The other new options allow hiding window decoration & background of the Performance Monitor, as well as enabling an outline around Performance Monitor text. The item list in the Performance Monitor properties window ha…
- Desktop+ v.3.3.4 Beta - 9 February 2026
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Added Origin Smoothing overlay property Origin Smoothing is available for the HMD and HMD Floor origins. This smoothing uses the same underlying algorithm as the mouse input smoothing (Radial Follow Smoothing). It is a mixture of pure smoothing and stabilization at higher levels. Actual effects of the different smoothing levels are still subject to change... or rather, open for feedback. Added visible overlay backsides All UI windows now feature a visible backside. For new overlays, the backside defaults to being enabled, but can be toggled off in the Overlay Properties. Already existing overlays and overlays loaded from profiles remain unchanged, but can of course have backsides toggled on as well if desired. This requires SteamVR 2.15.3 or later. Changed: Improved Overlay Bar drag-reordering input tolerance The smooth re-ordering…
- Desktop+ v.3.3.3 Beta - 14 January 2026
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Added QWERTY (Thai Kedmanee) community keyboard layout by TangMo Similar to other recent additions, this layout is designed to be used on a Thai system and expects the Windows keyboard layout to match. Changed: Revamped Overlay Bar drag-reordering to be smooth There is no functional change in this. It just looks and feels nicer. Fixed: Fixed Thai characters not displaying in UI (by TangMo) Fixed "Switch Task" Action sometimes crashing Desktop+ when an application with exclusive fullscreen was active Worked around SteamVR 2.15.1 dashboard changes breaking dashboard-relative overlay positioning While Desktop+ also remains mostly usable with the legacy dashboard (active when Steam isn't running), it should be noted that support for it is limited. Theater Screen origin overlays are known to not work with SteamVR 2.15.1. Still awaiting…
- Desktop+ v.3.3.2 Beta - 1 January 2026
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Added Performance Monitor "Minimal" style Sometimes less is less and just what you want. This style allows for a one-line set of performance metrics and might be preferred when attached somewhere to your view in seated games instead of the typical use of docking the Performance Monitor to your tracked controller. Added setting to hide Performance Monitor window decorations & background Added setting to show an outline around Performance Monitor text Added QWERTY (Japanese JIS-set) community keyboard layout by Shimotuki Rieru This layout is designed to be used on a Japanese system with an active IME. Please note that IME support in Desktop+ is limited to desktop/window overlays. Added more "Alternative Cursor Rendering" fallbacks It now falls back to using the default cursor image or just a built-in alternative if other means to ret…
- Desktop+ v.3.3.1 Beta - 3 December 2025
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Added "Alternative Cursor Rendering" Desktop Duplication setting This setting is meant to help some users experiencing issues with the hardware cursor capture using Desktop Duplication, ending up with no cursor being displayed. This rendering method is slightly slower than the regular one and doesn't support cursor animation. But hopefully it resolves the issue for anyone affected. Added hidden settings to allow specifying the GPUs used by Desktop+ Under normal circumstances there is no need to use these. But they can be useful in the rare case in which using the primary desktop GPU and the VR GPU returned by SteamVR does not give the desired results. Improved logging around output enumeration Fixed: Fixed middle click not working with default bindings for Index & Touch controllers Fixed drag hints displayed on top of controllers g…
- Desktop+ v.3.3 - 11 November 2025
What's new in Desktop+ 3.3? Desktop+ 3.3 features better keyboard labels, new community contributions, and fixes for compatibility with the new stable SteamVR version. Community Additions This version of Desktop+ comes with more contributions from the community in the form of translations and keyboard layouts. HisaCat provided the Korean translation and Korean 2-set keyboard layout for Desktop+'s VR Keyboard. Lenr provided the QWERTZ (Hungary) keyboard layout. Keyboard labels have gotten additional functionality for alignment to support these contributions better. Namely, labels are now aligned per-line and can specify a horizontal alignment instead of just center (which remains the default). Left or right alignment can be set by appending "##L" or "##R" at the end of a line. I wish to thank everyone for their help making Desktop+ accessible to more people. Other Changes New: Overlay di…
- Desktop+ v.3.2.2 Beta - 8 November 2025
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Added QWERTZ (Hungary) community keyboard layout by Lenr Added support for keyboard key label line-alignment Labels default to center alignment. Left or right alignment can be set by appending "##L" or "##R" at the end of a line. Keyboard key labels are now aligned per-line Overlay display mode is now reset to Always when changing the origin to Theater Screen (since the Theater Screen is always visible as long as the overlay is not hidden) Fixed: Fixed incorrect dashboard origin position when Desktop+ isn't the active dashboard tab This isn't fully resolved when using the legacy dashboard, but still works in most cases. Fixed dashboard origin not moving with the dragged dashboard when Desktop+ isn't the active dashboard tab Fixed incorrect VR keyboard numpad behavior with specific combination of num lock and shift states Fixed trai…
- Desktop+ v.3.2.1 Beta - 7 September 2025
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: Added Korean community translation by HisaCat Added Korean 2-set community keyboard layout by HisaCat Fixed: Fixed dashboard origin being offset in SteamVR 2.13.1 and newer Fixed oversized window icons of applications not providing lower resolution icons spilling over the intended Overlay Bar button space Fixed Keyboard Layout Editor not applying key code changes if the old key code happens to match the line number of the new key code in the key list Fixed keyboard layouts "AZERTY (Belgium)" & "AZERTY (France)" base sub-layout q keys not using the right key code
- Desktop+ at gamescom 2025 - 13 August 2025
Once again it's time for this thing. It's another year for me to be present at gamescom as an exhibitor with my good friends of the DragonBox Shop (from August 20st to the 24th). We're in the retro area in hall 10.2. While the booth is neither Desktop+ nor VR-related at all, if you happen to attend, feel free to come by, say hi (ask for some "Alex" guy), and check out some retro games and not so retro devices. We don't have queues or anything like that so you can just jump in. Maybe I'll see some of you there (did happen once before, really should've gotten a photo and written down the name...), would be really neat. Anything else going on? In all honesty, not really. I wouldn't write Desktop+ off as a done and abandoned project, but the lack of interesting PCVR developments has left my focus elsewhere as of late. There isn't a big feature I've secretly been working on or anything. Thou…
- Desktop+ v.3.2 - 10 June 2025
What's new in Desktop+ 3.2? Desktop+ 3.2 features new community contributions, an updated CEF version for Desktop+ Browser and rotation snapping drag setting. Desktop+ Browser Updated to CEF 127 The Chromium Embedded Framework used by Desktop+ Browser has been updated to version 127. This is equivalent with Chromium 127. Though the real heavy lifting has been done by the folks of the OBS Project, as their fork of CEF is used here (thanks again!). As a reminder, Desktop+ Browser is provided as a separate free DLC. It's been added to your account automatically, but unticked and not installed by default. You can install the DLC to get access to the Browser overlay type which allows displaying web pages and other content supported by CEF. Rotation Snapping This Drag Setting allows snapping rotation of an overlay to a specified angle while dragging it. The affected axes can be also be adjust…

- Desktop+ v.3.1 - 6 March 2025
What's new in Desktop+ 3.1? Desktop+ 3.1 features (still experimental) HDR mirroring support, performance improvements and additional input options. It also adapts to recent SteamVR changes. HDR mirroring support HDR mirroring works for both Desktop Duplication (default for desktop overlays) and Graphics Capture (desktop & window overlays) methods. The full bit-depth texture is passed to SteamVR, but to my knowledge there's currently no HMD that supports HDR output with SteamVR. HDR mirroring in Desktop+ is primarily aimed at working around the capture APIs not returning proper SDR contents while HDR is active in the OS. This isn't enabled by default. It can be toggled in the Performance settings if " Show Advanced Settings" is enabled. HDR support is still considered experimental as it has only been tested on a few systems and behavior has been found to vary between OS versions. Please…
- Desktop+ v.3.0.4 Beta - 17 February 2025
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+. New: UI Performance Optimizations This version adds various optimizations to the rendering logic of the interface parts of Desktop+. In particular, this includes partial overlay texture updates and activity-based render-rate. Before this update, the UI portion of Desktop+ simply rendered at the HMDs frame-rate as long as any part of it needed to be visible. Now the performance impact of inactive-but-visible UI windows is greatly reduced. If you don't notice anything except performance improvements, great. If you do, please report. For now you can return to the old rendering/idle behavior by unchecking " Adaptive UI Rendering Rate" in the Performance settings (" Show Advanced Settings" need to be enabled). That setting is temporary and will be removed later if there are no issues arising from these optimizations. Added hidden "UIFrameSki…
