- While you wait for Subnautica 2, here's a moody Bioshock-esque strategy game in which you can put Big Daddies on crabs - 29 April 2026
As Subnautica 2's early access launch approaches, my mind inevitably drifts to videogames that explore the pleasures and horrors of the deep blue. Tides of Tethys is one for the Jules Verne fans amongst you, with perhaps a pinch of Warhammer 40,000. It's an underwater strategy roguelite with city-building elements in which you guide troupes of bathynauts around procedurally generated ocean floors. You'll need to expand your modular outposts, ensuring your Knights have oxygen and power and food, while dealing with increasingly unfriendly aquatic beasties. I thought the giant crustacean I slew in the just-updated demo was an unfriendly beastie, but then I got a Steam Achievement for killing a harmless creature. I do hope this won't have ramifications. I hope that giant crustacean doesn't have a mother. Hang on, it looks like I can turn crustaceans into valiant steeds! Don't eat me, crab m…
- Demo 2.0 - 28 April 2026
Hello Overseers ! I am extremely happy to announce that we just updated the demo with a year's worth of QOL, new systems, bug fixes, and more! This is no mere patch - this is our demo 2.0. Not only have we added 2 new languages, allowing many more overseers to now guide the Knights through the Shoals...but we've also fixed hundreds of bugs, revamped systems, added new ones, given Knights self preservation behavior systems, added cinematics, added a leveling system, and much, much more. Here's a more extended list of what you can expect : -Added 2 new languages for localization.-Added Knight leveling system.-Re-did art for events.-Added cinematics when you unlock buildings in the kingdom.-Update to Knight auto behaviors for self defense, and self-preservation.-Updated art for all the buildable Kingdom interiors in the demo.-Can now use targeting systems with some gear items(for jetpacks,…
- The UI Rework update - 28 May 2025
Hello! Surprise! The demo's now been updated with an entirely revamped UI and UX. This was people's main feedback point after playing, and hopefully this shows our commitment to hearing your feedback to make Tides of Tethys the best game it can be. This is no small update - pretty much every single button, menu, and icon has been redone from the ground up. This is not just the UI, and overall a lot of things got a pass so things hopefully will feel more intuitive, easy to understand, and more reliable. We still do have some nav/collision issues here and there, but hopefully this update shows the kind of support and hard work on the feedback that you can expect once the game is out in Early Access in a few months. But wait there's more! We've also redone the lighting system from the ground up as well, to help with readability and give things a bit more pop, and we've also added a couple…
- The "Tentacle Slap" update - 1 March 2025
Hello! This week, we finally released our demo for the first time. Many of you took the time to dive into the seas of Tethys. Almost two thousand players ! Seeing all of you diving and experiencing our world for the first time has been incredible, and we can't wait for our game to grow alongside this amazing community. We've already released a couple hotfixes, but we wanted to we're not done yet ! We hear your feedback, and are absolutely aware of all the hard work that needs to be done. Whether that's unit pathing, UI, or content variety... we're hard at work on making sure we address as much as possible, as fast as the two of us can! On that note - we have a fun one for you today! We're naming this "the tentacle slap" update, as we're adding a fun change, now allowing tentacles to interact more with their environment, including...Mines! "Squishy matter" will also now interact with a v…
- Demo Announcement, and details about the game - 5 December 2024
Hi! The year is quickly coming to an end, and I wanted to take a minute to go more in depth about what you can expect from Tides of Tethys. So on that note, here's a lengthy post! -The Kingdom, prospering eons ago before the wars First and foremost, an announcement - Even though we were initially aiming for Q4, I made the decision to move the game to 2025. This is so the two of us can spend time on polish and fixing bugs, bringing important key features to the game before our first early access, as well as building more wishlists. We're currently aiming to take part in Steam Fest on February 24th, so if you want to try the game, that'll be your first chance to do so, and play the Demo. Mark your calendars! -An early concept of a Knight stumbling on an unknown creature With that out of the way, what's the game about? At the core, Tides of Tethys is a roguelite simulation game, with eleme…
