This update is on the Beta Branch. Hop on over if you want to help us test the upcoming update. Survival Skill Tree This update introduces a brand new Survival Skill Tree. You will be able to earn points in this tree by cooking, fishing, and hunting. This tree will include 9 new skills to pick from that give you all kinds of benefits, ranging from experience bonuses in crafting skills, a chance to find more foraging materials, increased duration time from meal effects, and more. Legendary Animals There is now a set of legendary animals to hunt. These will be hard to find and often require knowledge of where to look. Hunting these animals will reward you with unique crafting materials that can then be used to make a lot of new items including new unique ship decorations, weapons, and armor. Ahoy mateys!We wanted to give you a quick overview on what we've been working on and what you can expect for the next update. Please keep in mind that while we are trying to keep content flowing at a decent rate, our small team (2 people) is currently split between working on the PS5 port of the game and new content for upcoming updates. That being said, the PS5 port is going very well and we hope to have that ready sooner rather than later, although we don't have any official release dates yet. This update contains a number of fixes, improvements, and new content. Some new small islands can now be found past the 30 unit mark in any direction. These contain new quests, items, and points of interest. Additionally, the selling price of some crafted items has been rebalanced. These now sell for more than the sum of their components, which makes crafting more profitable than it used to be. Changes Added new islands with additional quests, items, and dungeons. The Nightbloom plant can now spawn on natural islands. Fast traveling now passes the time based on the distance you've traveled. Blacksmith merchants can now reroll your weapon and armor talents for a price. Ahoy mateys!We wanted to give you a quick update on what's going on at Lavaboots Studios and what you can expect for the next update for Salt 2. Our current goal is to have the next patch hit the beta branch within the next couple of months. In addition to the new content coming, we are also working hard on a Playstation 5 port for Salt 2. While it's a bit early and hard to say exactly if/when this will be released, we do have a build up and running on the dev kit and are hopeful to have Salt 2 released on the Playstation in the near future. As you may know we are a small team of only two members and as such this console port is dividing our time between updates for Salt 2 and support for the PS5. - Beta Branch Update: Delivery Quests and New Guild - 25 February 2026
Our latest update is now available on the Steam beta branch. If you'd like to join the beta branch and help us find bugs before it's available on the default branch, you can find instructions on how to do so here. This update includes brand new content including a new Treasure Hunter Guild known as The Gilded Path with new dungeons, new items, and new lore to uncover. We've also added in a new delivery quest system. You can pick up delivery quests at a post office box in any seaport. Some are longer distances than others and you'll get paid more based on how far you have to travel. This quest are simple but will involve you carrying cargo on your person from one post office to another. We've randomize the direction a bit of the quests you can get, so that often you'll probably find one for a direction you were already traveling. Ahoy mateys!Alongside multiple smaller updates released over the past couple of months, we've also been working on new content for a larger, more content-focused update. We're hoping to release this at least on the beta branch within the next couple of weeks but today we just wanted to go over what you can expect from that update. Delivery QuestsOne feature we've seen requested a lot is the ability to take on delivery quests as a way to make money. While we had a few quests similar to that you could get in the game, we didn't have a full blown delivery quest system. With the next update, we are finally adding that. In seaports and towns you'll often be able to find a post office station that will have a few delivery quests for you to pick up. While we are continuing to update the game as always, Salt 2 is now no longer in Early Access. When we entered EA over three years ago, the game was a shell of what it has become today. We want to thank all of you who joined us in this phase as it would not have been possible without your support and continual feedback. As a tiny indie team, your help was absolutely necessary to both find issues and prioritize direction for the world of Salt 2. The location shown for a quest now uses the closest relevant map item you have in your inventory (or storage), rather than just the first one.
