- Smash Attack Studios and Level Up Tasmania! - 30 September 2024
The Tasmanian game community is the best in the world! That’s the whole post! We are truly blessed here with not only talent but also a system that believes in us and it’s this system that resulted in the creation of Level Up Tasmania. The event was the first ever video game showcase in Tasmania. This event couldn’t have come together without the amazingly talented team at Screen Tasmania (more on them later), our local government and Screen Australia. Level Up Tasmania showed exactly what Dean, Smash Attack Studios owner and Game Director, had known after years of being a part of the scene: That there are some truly talented and passionate creators just needing that extra hand getting into the spotlight. The event began with some local media So before we gush about our fellow creatives, let’s look at what we got up to at Level Up Tasmania! Nullstar: Solus and ShapeVS were in attendance…
- ShapeVS and the Final Journey to 1.0 - 29 March 2024
Final Patch Notes! Added Shape Race and Shape Blast Fixed various audio bugs Restructured performance New splash screen opening In 2021 I set myself a goal to create my first fully released PC game. Up until then I had released a series of mobile games and worked as a consultant on other games – some released, some fell to the aether, but overall my journey into solo game development had many hurdles. For a long time I was a designer with minimal programming skills but after being let down in the goals, I decided to take my own steps; this was the Shape series of games and the first steps into what would eventually become ShapeVS. This game has allowed us to achieve some truly amazing things, from the people we have met to being part of an Australian representative in Germany at Gamescom. It has truly been one of the craziest parts of my life. But where did we end up with it all? A few…
- ShapeVS One Year On and the Future - 16 October 2023
Hi testers and players, It’s officially been just over one year since ShapeVS burst into Early Access on Steam and we have been going through this journey together. From launching with four games to now having doubled the number of games and added a bunch of quality of life fixes, it has been great to see the overall response to ShapeVS. From an amazing appearance at Gamescom in 2022 and PAX Aus 2022 at the Tasmanian creators booth, it has been great to see the reactions of players and onlookers as they enjoyed the game. We are so grateful for the response to ShapeVS and the opportunity to develop this game for you all. The story of ShapeVS has been a success in many ways but also a failure in others. It achieved the goal of setting up individuals in the team to move forward in their game development career but also failed to live up to the sales expectations we set. We had a fantastic…
- ShapeVS 0.5 Update - 9 July 2023
It's taken some time but here we are finally. Firstly apologies for the delay on this. With family things and Broken Road things, it has been crazy! Here is a quick breakdown of what is to come and what is in 0.5 Firstly is that Shape Ball is now in and playable. It's a single style/input game similar to Shape Fly. The whole point of these games is to get as much 4 player fun as possible out of simple rules and one input. Feedback for this has been good but as always it is just me and Woj (the audio tech) so any help would be appreciated in balancing and overall feel of the game. Some other additions include taunts being added in and some basic code refactoring. Nothing super exciting but this does come in the form of the new roadmap. Some streamlining of things should help out in the long run. Again thank you all for your patience and we look forward to sharing more soon!
- ShapeVS Status Update - 24 May 2023
Hey, testers! The ShapeVS dev team here touching base with a quick update as we head toward ShapeVS 0.5. We apologise for the delay in getting some regular updates but with the Easter break and other family commitments, all of April was a bit of a write-off. But we are back! Woj has been working on some banger tracks and the dev team is back to just fixing some bugs around Shape Tag and working on the new game Shape Ball. Shape Ball is similar to Shape Fly that it is a one-input style game and is essentially a giant free-for-all soccer game where anyone can score from any side. This was a game that was in development at the early stages and helped us lean into what we wanted from ShapeVS but it was also a game that kept coming up in internal playtests so we tweaked it to be a little less broken and will be rolling it out in ShapeVS 0.5 update. We are also clearing the final steps of cus…
- ShapeVS 0.4 - Shape Tag is Live! - 31 March 2023
ShapeVS 0.4 Update is now live! Featuring Shape Tag, this game is the first game designed by someone else on the team and we are eager to get feedback from the players. The main difference is that it doesn't feature power-ups and is entirely focused on movement and outsmarting your opponents. As always we will monitor any bugs that other people may detect and you can always follow us on our socials to keep up to date!
- Shape Tag and 0.4 Update - 26 March 2023
Hey, testers! Hopefully, 2023 has been a good year so far, it certainly has been for us here at ShapeTECH. They recently let some of the scientists out for a whole 20 minutes during the day. Have you heard of the sun? The big green thing in the sky? Anyway enough about that, we are currently putting the final touches on the Shape Tag and 0.4 update to ShapeVS. We are putting the final touches on bug fixing and level designs before we go to more internal testing. The current ETA for the update is the end of this week so hopefully, we can just squash these last issues. (EDIT: Management wishes to remind testers we are talking about bugs and not the ShapeTECH devs) It's crazy to think that since launch we have nearly doubled the content in the game. Do note that with the launch of this update, we will be looking at our first price increase. Something about management needing to pay the bil…
- ShapeVS 2023 Roadmap Update! - 22 January 2023
Ayo everyone! The ShapeVS dev team is here on behalf of ShapeTECH to talk about the updates coming to ShapeVS over the next few months. As always thank you for your support and the positive reception to Shape Flag, we are aware of some issues that managed to sneak through testing and are working on patching those very soon. But without further adieu here is our updated roadmap for 2023: Q1 is going to be another focus on getting the game done in time, we are extending the development time for the games, as to allow the other aspects (testing, audio and such) to have more time to get ready. We currently have Shape Tag in the works and are looking forward to showing that off very soon. Another big focus will be the basics of the customisation options, as we have shared previously the game has a variety of taunts to showcase friends, family and other references around the ShapeVS team. We…

- 0.3 Delay! - 31 December 2022
Hey, a quick update from the team here! Due to some post-holiday movements and surprises (the key phrase here being SURPRISES), we will have to delay the update by like a week. We hope to finalise the update mid-next week to roll out! Thank you for your patience. - ShapeVS Dev Team
- ShapeVS Quick Update! - 10 December 2022
Hey everyone, It’s been a hot minute so I thought I would give a quick update on how ShapeVS development is going. Firstly, thank you for the incredible reception to update 0.2 and Shape Zone! We have a few bugs (like audio issues and balancing) to iron out, but they will hopefully come with update 0.3. Speaking of 0.3, we are on schedule to release it hopefully before the end of the month pending Christmas and the rest of the holiday season. So thank you for your patience and understanding, game dev can be hard, but we are hard toiling away hard and gearing up for an awesome 2023 ShapeVS season!

ShapeVS 0.2v (PAX Notes) (See because PAX sounds like patch) It's been a little while, just over a month but we are here now! PAX Aus is done and now Shape Zone has been added to the game! Below are the patch notes, as always we will be monitoring how things go with the rollout and will make adjustments where necessary. Additions Added Game Five, Shape Zone, to the pool of games! New win quotes added Added a crown indicator to show who is in the lead Arrows were added to the warning lines to help indicate when cogs are coming Changes Added extra values for screen resolution in options and settings Changed details in splash screens Added names to credits Changed the jump boost power up to correctly identify what it does Made it so the death cogs only hit you with the time penalty (death) and not the loss of points, feedback from players feeling like they were punished twice Players can n…
- PAX Aus and the Road to 0.2 - 15 October 2022
Hey testers, it’s the ShapeTECH team dropping in again with our latest breakdown of ShapeVS and the team at Smash Attack. Having recently conducted mass testing in Melbourne, Victoria at PAX Aus 2022, they have returned with praise, feedback and an overall sense of purpose. So let’s dive in! For those unaware, PAX Aus is a yearly convention hosted by ReedPop in Melbourne. Usually a yearly event, due to the effects of COVID we saw it halted for the past two years, but it has made a triumphant return with an estimated 80,000 said to have attended. Smash Attack this year teamed up with Trades Tas and Screen Tas to be part of the Tasmanian booth at PAX. A collaboration between Smash Attack and six other developers from around the state. It was genuinely great to see such a showing of Tassie devs and we can’t thank Alex and Claudia from Screen Tas and Tom from Trades Tas for all their hard w…
- ShapeVS Post Launch and Roadmap! - 3 October 2022
Hello, testers, It is amazing to hear that society has welcomed so many of you into the fold and we can’t thank you enough. It’s been a wild ride since our launch, for those who know the dev team we always said that we would be happy with 10 copies for launch week, so to see over 60+ of you around playing ShapeVS has truly blown us away! https://scontent.fmel8-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/309338467_420324513556576_2256325161738966558_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=730e14&_nc_ohc=SaNqXaaunB4AX-fkMFh&_nc_ht=scontent.fmel8-1.fna&oh=00_AT-XcOvW0sDmkLKI_hEf1LA3XOgnen1pL4lhAwm4x84vZw&oe=633ED0FA Thank you to all those who came out! First up is PAX Australia this weekend (October 7th to 9th) in…
- Welcome to launch week! - 26 September 2022

- ShapeVS Launch Date Confirmation - 12 September 2022
Hello, testers, We are happy to announce that ShapeVS, the all-new testing program from ShapeTECH, is launching on September 30th! It’s been a long journey but there are some things we want to keep you in the loop about. Firstly, The launch version of ShapeVS early access is local multiplayer ONLY! This means up to 4 players can play on the one system, we are currently exploring online options but to make sure we get the core loop of each game down we are focusing on local for now. Secondly, we are a small team and we have done testing on our machines but some little issues may have fallen through the cracks. If you are an early adopter of ShapeVS you can join Discord here (https://discord.gg/6pS2EVv) and post any issues you may have found. Lastly, ShapeVS will be attending PAX Australia 2022 in Melbourne this year from the 7th to the 9th of October. We will be there with the launch ver…
