I spent way too many hours reading old NASA documents about the Saturn V turbopumps. The F-1 pumped something like 15,000 gallons of kerosene per minute. Wild. You won't be replicating that exactly—Meco's models are simplified—but you'll feel the same tradeoffs those engineers dealt with. Admission ratios, efficiency curves, that moment when you realize you can't just crank everything to max. The sim engine got real turbine loss modeling now. Meco 0.3.0 is live and it is a chunky one.This release adds three new missions:- Mission 4: Valve Ventures- Mission 5: The Combustion Catastrophe (inspired by SpaceX Merlin 1D)- Mission 6: The Cooling Crisis (inspired by NASA's RS-25 for Artemis/Space Shuttle)For Missions 5 and 6, we referenced publicly available engine information (cycle descriptions, published performance numbers, and thermal and cooling concepts) to pick reasonable targets and sanity-check the sim. Why Kickstarter? Meco has been self-funded until now and is pending an Early Access launch on Steam. It took three years of intense work to get to this stage, where I am confident that the product works well. Along the way, I lost sight in both eyes due to a rare genetic condition and had a heart attack which was odd because I am not obese and am only 45. Thankfully after a bunch of surgical interventions, my sight is mainly restored, and the doctors say that my ticker should serve me for another decade or more. I aim to serve the most people in the shortest time, and I want to focus on my health simultaneously. Funds raised with Kickstarter will be employed to delegate administrative, marketing, game design, community engagement, project management, and game documentation, including making videos and tutorials for the community.
