- Your machine, your menu - 19 September 2026
The game now picks its own graphics level on first launch, and you can re-run it from Settings. Esc opens the pause menu, which now has language, settings and quit. The Scriptorium prints by itself, no Windows dialog. Changing the language updates everything at once.
- A smoother campus - 15 September 2026
The campus runs noticeably faster outdoors. A shading effect was redrawing the whole scene a second time every frame, for depth that the baked lighting already provides. It now runs indoors only, where it earns its cost. The campus lighting has been baked again: the buildings added this summer are lit properly, and corners and foliage carry their own shading. A gap in the ground collisions near the Scriptorium has been closed. The frame-rate counter is no longer always on screen. Press F3 to show or hide it, in any scene.
- Sur Le Fil 4.2: Finding your way - 13 September 2026
Your first ten minutes on the campus: finding your feet, and finding your way. Finding your way A movement tutorial for new players. After meeting Grudu, a banner at the bottom of the screen walks you through each move: look around, find the signpost, walk, step back, sidestep, run. It waits for you to actually do it before moving on, then sends you up to the Mentorium. Your language, your profile The language now belongs to your profile. Choose it in the profile menu, validate, and it stays with that profile, inside the buildings too. Validating a profile no longer switches the game back to your Windows language. First launch in your language. On a fresh install, the game starts in the language of your Windows: French, English, Spanish or German, and English otherwise. The Scriptorium, lighter and steadier No more flickering on modest PCs. The room's lighting is now baked in: the candl…
- Update Note 06/15/2026 - 15 August 2026
Small update: Added signposts across the campus to help new players find the Mentorium.
- v4.1 — Minor bug fixes - 28 June 2026
A small round of fixes to smooth out the rough edges. • Leaving a room or activity is reliable again — no more freezing after the first exit, and a quick double-click won't trigger it twice. • Switching player profiles now drops you back at the right spot on campus, with no leftover state carried over from the previous profile. • Your score now updates correctly when you return from a mission. • Sealed a couple of gaps near the pond where you could slip off the island's edge. • Cosinus's pond finally has a visible way out — a little staircase, so nobody gets stranded down there. • Softened the campus exit music (the old one was a touch spooky). • Plus various small stability improvements under the hood.
- v4.0 — The New Campus - 18 June 2026
A whole new campus The island has been rebuilt from the ground up — new look, new atmosphere, a living world to explore. Grudu welcomes you on your very first launch, Cosinus lurks in the campus pond with his usual sarcasm, and there are more characters to run into. You can now press Space to pause anywhere on the campus, not just during lessons. Fresh musical themes set the mood across the island and the lessons. MathAttack, reborn MathAttack is now a full tower-defense: solve calculations to earn Knowledge Points, then spend them on ammo to hold back the waves. A brand-new nocturnal arena, with cinematic moments where Prof'Fil, Kelhann and Cosinus comment on the action. The electronics lab — deeper and freer A new free-build sandbox to experiment with no objective. Refined thermal model: overload a bulb or resistor and it overheats and blows out — and the power supply now reads curren…
- SLF Reborn 3.7 — The World is Mathematical - 25 May 2026
The World is MathematicalThis release brings the long-promised decimals and fractions to the MathCorner, and extends Pythagor Hall to circles.— Math Corner — Decimals & Fractions —A full new wave of lessons and exams arrives in the Math Corner:8 new lessons covering decimal addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the introduction to fractions ("when a number breaks"),followed by simplifying fractions. 20 new Den exams give plenty ofpractice for each new notion.— Pythagor Hall — Circles —The PythaCercles lesson now extends to the disk's area — distinguishingthe circle (the boundary) from the disk (the interior), with concretecalculations using π ≈ 3.14.Two new Den exams on circles:• The system draws a circle; you measure its radius and diameter with your ruler, then compute the circumference and area.• You draw the circle yourself with a given radius, erase your construction…
- Decimals & Fractions: 8 new lessons, 20 new challenges - 17 May 2026
We've been hard at work on the next big content drop for SLF: 8 brand-new math lessons and 20 new challenges, all built around decimals and fractions — coming late May.Learners explore why a number breaks apart and how to tame it — through story, characters and hands-on challenges, never rote drilling.New here? SLF (Sur le Fil) is a narrative educational game for ages 8–15. Maths, electricity, writing, science, geometry and mechanics — taught through an adventure across a living campus, with Prof'Fil and his cast, not worksheets. It doesn't follow the school curriculum: it follows the logic that makes concepts click.📅 Landing in SLF late this month.➕ Wishlist or follow SLF so you don't miss it — a wishlist genuinely helps a solo dev. Thank you.
- v3.6.0 — May 8, 2026 — Polishing the Foundations - 8 May 2026
This release focuses on consolidating and refining what's already there rather than adding new buildings — making the existing experience cleaner, more pedagogical, and more reliable. Special attention was given to the geometry stack, which received a deep rework under the hood. Math Reworked the math courses to remove random number generation during lessons. The professor now demonstrates operations with concrete, fixed numbers, making explanations easier to follow and reproduce in a notebook. Pythagor Hall — Geometry Scenarios Major rework of the geometry scenes with new functionality and an additional parallelism level. Lesson scripts were rewritten to provide short, action-oriented on-screen objectives that the player can tick off progressively, rather than displaying full instructions in a single block. Compass Tool — Full Rewrite The compass has been rebuilt from scratch around a…

Scriptorium V1 beta — Update 28/04 Following early beta feedback, a few improvements: QR code is now bigger (300×300), easier to scan on smaller displays Scenario flow clarified: write your page first, then validate, then scan the QR — Prof'Fil explains the timing New "Original Image" button to see how the game processes your photo
- v3.5.0 — April 26, 2026 — The Scriptorium - 26 April 2026
a brand new building dedicated to handwriting practice, inspired by the medieval monastic tradition and patroned by Alcuin of York, the scholar who reformed European writing under Charlemagne in the 8th century. A complete handwriting recognition pipeline: Players print blank pages from SLF, write by hand, photograph them with a mobile device, and the system reads back what they wrote. Each player trains a personal neural network that learns their own handwriting style — the more they write, the better the recognition becomes. Key features: A custom CNN (200K parameters) trained per player, with active learning correction. Mobile capture pipeline: 3 QR finder patterns, homography correction, automatic character segmentation. Bootstrap with the Sassoon Primary font, then progressive learning of the player's own handwriting from a→z, A→Z, accents and punctuation. Recognition rates reach 9…
- Drawing the Words - 23 April 2026
Two new projects in developmentSLF continues to grow. Two major pieces are currently being built into the campus, and this trailer gives you a first glimpse of one of them — the Scriptorium. The Scriptorium & Historium — learning to write, by handA new building is rising at the edge of the campus: a stone scriptorium inspired by the medieval copy-houses, crowned with a golden quill. Inside, the player rediscovers something that digital natives rarely practice anymore — handwriting on paper. The principle is simple: the player prints a blank sheet from the game, writes on it, then photographs it with a mobile phone. The Scriptorium receives the image, straightens it, and reads each line. What makes it unique: a personal neural network, trained from the player's own hand. The more the player writes, the better the AI learns their writing style. It is not a generic OCR — it is a CNN that grow…
- Small Correction Patch for Build 3.4.0 - 14 March 2026
Small Correction Patch for Build 3.4.0 Thanks to Kastuk for the feedback.
- ]v3.4.0 — March 13, 2026 — Geometry, Music & Developer Messaging - 13 March 2026
v3.4.0 — March 13, 2026 — Geometry, Music & Developer Messaging Added the first playable geometry levels in the new Pythagor Hall, allowing players to construct and explore simple geometric shapes. New musical themes have been added to improve the atmosphere across several areas of the campus. Introduced an in-game developer reply system. Players can now receive responses directly inside the game after sending feedback during gameplay. This improves communication with early testers and helps refine the educational experience. Educational improvements based on player feedback: The bulb and resistor experiment now clearly explains why the resistor can be placed either before or after the bulb in a series circuit. Fixed a bug in the division algorithm that was returning a remainder of 0 when it should have been another value. Various mission flow improvements and minor UI adjustments. Comi…
