  • End of the Month Review - April 2022 - 6 May 2022

Hello again, and welcome to our EotM Review for April 2022! As many may have noticed, Board Game Engine runs on Unreal Engine 4. Earlier in April, Epic released the first stable release of Unreal Engine 5, something we had been watching with great anticipation here at Omnibox. When we were building Board Game Engine, we attempted to ensure compatibility with the upcoming UE5 release, though at the time we did not know when that would be. This month we finally had the opportunity to port all of our work to Unreal Engine 5! This build currently lives on the test branch and should sport performance improvements and minor graphical changes over the UE4 versions. Also with UE5 came Epic's own Chaos Physics system, which allows much greater physics stability and precision. We are very pleased to be able to take advantage of this in Board Game Engine going forward, and in the newest test build…

  • End of the Month Review - March 2022 - 8 April 2022

Welcome to our second End of the Month Review! This March marked an important milestone in multiplayer development, with great success loading multiplayer games with minimal desync. With this successful test we move towards further bolstering multiplayer capabilities and preparing the user interface for additional multiplayer functionality. We have also determined that BGE documentation will be contained in a knowledge base online, this way it can be searched and archived easily and will be accessible ingame through Steam's web browser. We have also considered printing a little booklet for functions, but are forgoing this idea due to the speed at which such material would become outdated. Once again we would like to thank you, our community, for your patience with our development. You are always more than welcome to try out multiplayer on the test branch while we continue to update it!

  • End of the Month Review - Feb. 2022 - 2 March 2022

This marks the first of a continuous series of End of the Month Reviews. We will use these monthly posts to let everyone know what we've been up to and where we are going. These will be especially helpful during quieter months, when there may be little to announce on a daily or weekly scale. This February was a busy one here at Omnibox Games. We released five minor updates including various fixes to the editor, as well as updating grid support to work for both square and hex grids. As mentioned since launch, multiplayer has been our highest priority and we have continued to progress towards that goal. What we can say so far, is multiplayer will be highly Workshop based; usage of a save in multiplayer will require it being uploaded to the Workshop in some form. Multiplayer is coming soon, and with it, we plan to include a full user manual with that update. For all future major updates, w…

  • We are Live! - 22 January 2022

We are pleased to announce the release of Alpha 1.0 of Board Game Engine! As we are in Early Access and this is version 1.0, we anticipate bugs will quickly arise. We will do everything we can to squash bugs and smooth glitches. As promised, the editor is currently free while we work towards multiplayer, that is still our highest priority! We have a long road ahead of us, but we hope you'll join us for the journey. Thank you all for your continued support

  • Launch Status Update - 20 January 2022

It’s an exciting time here at Omnibox, but it's easy to get swept up in the moment as a small team launching our first major digital project. We want to remain as transparent as possible with our potential users. We have decided that it is in the best interest of our potential user and the overall health of the Board Game Engine at launch to delay multiplayer functionality until it is ready. To make up for this we have decided to launch the Board Game Engine Editor as free content until such a time that we can deliver a product worth your valuable time and money. Please note, that we are working diligently to meet our goals for the Board Game Engine and provide the best possible experience for our users; multiplayer is our highest priority. Again, we apologize for this delay but are still looking forward to launching the Board Game Engine on the 21st of January as intended. Keep a looko…

  • Board Game Engine Release - 14 January 2022

Board Game Engine releases on January 21! As per our planned monetization, all users will be able to download Workshop items and play with them for free. The editor itself is in a $9.99 DLC package. This was the easiest way to ensure a universal game Workshop while also keeping our free-to-play, pay-to-edit model. Workshop Support As we enter our initial launch, we want to encourage everyone to share their components, in addition to their games, on the Workshop. As more items are added, the Workshop will be able to not only be a place to find games to play but also function as a massive free library of game components for developers to use when prototyping. We plan on releasing many content packs of our own on the Workshop over time, but nothing beats community support! Grid Support By popular demand, we are pushing to have support for grids in the initial release! You will be able to e…
