- Dev Brief 9 | A NEW ERA OF SURVIVAL GAMES - 30 June 2022
At Monday the 27th we announced that we will move our focus from Shattle to a brand new game - STRIDEN. Our main focus is to develop games in a close relationship with you. That’s why we released Shattle at an early playtest in November last year. In January we summarized your feedback, our road map and goals. Which led us to a new conclusion - a new game. A NEW ERA OF SURVIVAL GAMES The game mode in STRIDEN has got good results during closed playtest. We feel that we’re close to a new innovative Game Mode that we have always strived for. STRIDEN is a fast paced survival FPS, where your Rebel Army needs to unleash your inner spirit, loot and fight for survival. In a close combat environment, but with the feeling of Open World. THE BEST FROM SHATTLE TO A NEW IP We have taken the best from Shattle and the spirit of Shattle in to a totally new game where we can guarantee that you will find…

- Dev Brief #8 | Introducing Stronghold Mode - 25 March 2022
Hey everyone, For today’s devlog we’re going to be talking about a major change that we have been working on since our last playable build, our gameplay mode. If you’ve been following our journey along the way on our social channels, you may have seen us use phrases like “the game will never be the same again” or “You’ll hardly recognize it.” While they may be overused cliches in gaming marketing today, we want to convey that when we say everything will change, we mean it. Our previous mode, which featured three bombing runs that forced you into the shelters with the opportunity to go outside and scrounge for loot, is completely gone. It is now being replaced with what we call Stronghold mode. To start with, you are no longer fighting on your own. When you enter Stronghold mode, you’ll be placed in a lobby where you can pick your team, select one of five different classes with unique lo…
- Dev Brief #7 | New changes, bigger team and a new office - 18 March 2022

We have some really cool news to share with you on what’s going on with Shattle and how 5 Fortress as a company is growing. So without further ado, let’s get into it. You've probably seen glimpses of our new and upcoming assets and cover art if you’ve been following us on our social media channels. We’ve mentioned before that we’re getting a new look and feel, and our art department has really stepped it up. This new cover art you can see above, created by our talented Lead Game Artist Patrik, shows off our characters, what to expect from the game and even hints at some of our future features for those with a keen eye. We’ll go into more details on the changes down the line, but expect more of the same as development continues. Speaking of our teams, we have recently begun to scale up our dev t…
- Dev Brief #6 | Major Changes Coming - 4 March 2022

Before we get into exactly what those changes are, we want to thank everyone who has taken the time to take part in our playtests. All of your valuable feedback is what is driving our development team going into our next phase, and all of our changes are being made with you and your gameplay experience in mind. We’re not going to go into details on each change this week (though look forward to more feature deep-dives in the near future), but here is a list of what we are working on: Shattle is turning into an FPS Our current game modes are being built from the ground up to have a greater focus on teamwork Redesigning our…

- Dev Brief # 5 | New character designs and clothing system coming - 16 February 2022
Hey everyone, For today’s developer update, we wanted to talk about our in-game characters. To start off let’s go all the way back to who the game is about. War is looming in 1970’s Sweden and those that remain are people who have missed the last evacuation busses. These tend to be older men (many of them alcoholics) who would not even qualify to be in the army. Growing up in Boden, Sweden, many of us developers knew these kinds of men and they even scared us as kids. Everyone had that neighbour with a unique nickname and shady rumours attributed to them. We wanted to put the players in their shoes. Have you ever had a creepy neighbour like this? Our goal with Shattle was to create an environment where you can jump into a session and have a laugh with other players. At the same time, since they are based on real people we don’t want to make you forget about the characters or think they…

- Welcome to Vargen | First look at our newest map - 7 February 2022
Hi everyone! Long time no see. Sorry that we've been a bit quiet after our last playtest session. We've been keeping our heads down and getting to work on our latest build. Now that we've come up for air, we have a surprise for you all. We've teased a new map in the past, and now we want to tell you a little more about it. Welcome to Vargen (The Wolf). It's a much bigger map than Bergbyn, and it has a lot of secrets to share. From dense forests and a large storage facility to tight military tunnels dug into a mountain. Climb to the top of the mountain, and you'll even find an active flight radar. Perfect for taking in that picturesque nature view or long-range weapons... Check out our first look video below. We're hard at work on a player-ready build, but we can't give you a timeline just yet. Keep up to date with us here, and we'll announce our next playtest as soon as we can. Make sur…

The next time you will play Shattle it’ll be a completely new experience. - Patchnote 0.0.3.0 - 19 January 2022
New patch update with animations and also new weapons. Last week we showed our new animations that we're currently working on. So far we don't have a professional animator in our team. But with this new update we feel that you will have a more joy of playing Shattle than before. The new movement system (work in progress) gives a way better feeling and after the testing. We just could't wait and wanted to update the game immediately to share it with you. As always, give us your feedback of what you think with the new update and we will bring that in to the development process. ● New Movement system ( Work in progress ) Faster locomotion, strafe run, jump higher + some new animations. ● Head bobbing movement added ( It's too extreme now but we will change this next patch) ● New idle animation for standing still. ● New melee animation and overhaul on all melee damages. ● New animation for…
- Dev Brief #4 | Let go for a new year! - 14 January 2022
A new year with lots of new exciting elements in Shattle. Many thanks to all of you who have been on our journey during the autumn and played Shattle during Christmas. Now starts a new year where we are happy to continue to give Shattle more love and updates as you wish. Our dear co-founder Johan tells more about the new animations and movements thats been developing last weeks. So far we don't have a professional animator in our team, that why we try the best we can to solve the animations by our selves. Enjoy our video and see you all at Bergbyn.
- Patch Update 0.0.2.0 - 22 December 2021
Patch Update 0.0.2.0 After months of work, we are finally live with our latest patch. The Invasion has Started update includes a lot of changes that have been suggested by you the players. It's been six weeks since we revealed Shattle to the world and so far we have gotten some great feedback from you all. The game is being created but just us three developers, and we're pleased to see how your feedback has helped shape and evolve Shattle into what is it today. We hope that you will enjoy the new changes! And as a special gift to you all this holiday season, we are keeping our servers running 24/7 until January 2, 2022. Happy Holidays! Gameplay/Features New AI system implemented. AI enemies are now lootable. Now you only need one player to start a match. Added an instant re-spawn button if you get killed. - Dev Brief #3 - 17 December 2021
Christmas is almost upon us, and that means our newest patch is almost out - The invasion has started. We have previously talked about how we have added our new AI system and made major changes to the map. This time we want to talk about our next biggest challenge: our new weapons system. Previously, there was a lot to juggle. You needed a weapon, a suitable magazine, specific ammunition to fit that weapon and the ability to put it all together. It was complicated, messy and a bit too hectic for players, especially in close combat situations. It made it a more frustrating experience and took you out of the immersion, according to testers. So we went back to our tried and tested method - If you don't like it, we change it as fast as possible. We want you to have a great time with the games we are developing. The solution was to rewrite the entire weapon code for ammunition and magazines.…
- Dev Brief #2 - 10 December 2021
When we started developing Shattle, the idea was to create the happy 70's in Sweden. Hippies, nice colours and constant sunshine. We wanted to move away from classic game environments with broken objects, dirt and mould. After the recent changes that have been made, we felt that the identity of Shattle was lacking. We saw that those of you who tested the game had difficulty really feeling the story through gameplay. So we decided to change that and move the war from being just beyond the horizon to your front door. We call it - The invasion has started. This allows us to expand upon the story and make it more concrete. Through clips, we will explain why unidentified soldiers have invaded the streets and why Air-Raid signals keep going off. The Rescue bus It will become more apparent why you have to catch the bus. For one example: You will not get any points or a chance to win if you don…
- Dev Briefing #1 - 3 December 2021
Hey everyone! Welcome to our first devlog. We here at 5 Fortress believe that for a PVP game to really reach its true potential, you have to make sure it's enjoyable every time you start a game. We knew from our very first reveal that building a great multiplayer experience would not be easy, but now thanks to your feedback we hope to address some issues we have been seeing. The biggest problem at the moment is that it's been hard to fill the server with players at the same time. We believe you can't get an honest view of the game when there are less than 8 players in a 25 players server. So today we are introducing you to the "No More Empty Servers" priority patch (As coined by our Lead Designer Jonah). So now even if you play by yourself or want to try it out and nobody is available, the server will be filled and you will get a real taste for the game and its mechanics. Introducing ne…
- December Update | Message from the Devs and New December Playtest Times - 30 November 2021
Hey everyone! Once again thank you for signing up for our playlets! You probably don’t know how much we appreciate your feedback and engagement in the game that just three of us developers have made so far. We have learned so much and one of those lessons that we learned - get players collected at the same time during playtesting, so all of you can get an honest perspective of Shattle. So with that said we have decided to close servers in between scheduled playtest times. This way we will not only save on server costs during this stage of development, but we can provide a much better experience for you with 25-players at the same time. We’re also working on a new patch to create a better experience and an early Christmas gift. 😉 With that said, we are also including new time zones for December to include more of you around the world! Dec 4 @ 3 pm PST/ 6 pm EST Dec 8 @ 10 am PST/ 1 pm E…
