Hi heroes 👋 Chronicles of 2 Heroes is one month old! We have received loads of support during this time. And some constructive criticism, too. Thankfully, most of our player base values the tough challenge we offer. But there is a significant amount of people who struggle with some bosses and platforming segments. While we consider the game fair overall, we always wanted as many players as possible to enjoy it. Consequently, in the spirit of games like Celeste, we have updated Chronicles of 2 Heroes with a brand-new assist mode. It provides the following benefits: Ayame becomes Kirby. The assist mode allows our kunoichi to jump endlessly while you keep pressing the jump button. She also regains five kunai every 30 seconds. Kensei got hands. - How Japanese mythos inspired us - The Three Sacred Treasures - 16 May 2023
Hi heroes! Ayame's and Kensei's main quest during the game is to retrieve the Three Sacred Treasures to defeat Himiko and Amaterasu. You might be asking what these treasures are: ⚔️ The Sword - Kusanagi no Tsurugi (草薙劍) 🪞 The Mirror - Yata no Kagami (八咫鏡) 💎 The Jewell - Yasakani no Magatama (八尺瓊勾玉) Each relic represents one of the three primary virtues: courage, wisdom, and benevolence. According to legend, Ninigi-no-Mikoto brought them to Earth. He is a legendary ancestor of Japan's imperial line sent by his grandmother Amaterasu to pacify Japan. Ninigi eventually passed down the treasures to Emperor Jimmu, so you could say there is divinity to the ruler of Japan. In fact, these three treasures are a central element of the enthronement ceremony since 690. It makes sense that you will need god-like powers to face divine antagonists like Amaterasu herself. Hi heroes! 👋 Chronicles of 2 Heroes is almost here (May 26th). During the last weeks of development, we've been tweaking some things to improve the game. And one of the things we have changed is how some traps work. The previously lethal traps have been replaced with mysterious and captivating purple flames, called "Honō no Yūrei" (炎の幽霊), or "Flame Specters." Here are the old traps: And here are the new, purple flames: These traps, inspired by the mystical atmosphere of Japan, will no longer instantly kill players. Instead, the Flame Specters will send players back to the beginning of the room, allowing them to learn from their mistakes and face challenges again. The elusive and unpredictable nature of these traps demands increased cooperation between the two heroes, as players must work together to overcome obstacles and progress through the game. Hi heroes! 👋 You may be reading this because you think Chronicles of 2 Heroes has appealing pixel art and fluid animations. However, our game's visuals and mechanics have changed a lot before they look like they do now. Take Kensei's parry, for instance. It's one of his signature moves along with his dash, so we put a lot of effort into making it smooth yet powerful. We thought slow motion could add more intensity to the parry, so that became a staple from the very beginning. The same happens with the sparks from the first two versions. Nevertheless, many testers pointed out that this effect didn't fit with the pixelated graphics. It looked a bit too realistic and disconnected from the overall aesthetic. That's why we replaced it with two handmade effects. When Kensei parries, his sword slashes from bottom to top. A tiny, yellow, curved line appears near the arrow when you hit it. Then…
