  • On Writing Pixel Pulps - III - 22 December 2023

https://i.imgur.com/6jyuGT9.jpg Welcome to the latest installment from the Bahnsen Knights News Channel on writing Pixel Pulps... There is something about the idea of 'accumulation' in writing that has always appealed to me. It's not just about the day-to-day stubbornness of the craft—writing two or three pages a day—where, in a short time, you have a novel. Rather, it's the notion that accumulation can be used to justify anything. I've never been attracted to the elegance of simplicity. Given a choice between minimalist industrial designs and complicated Goldberg machines, I don't hesitate for a second. Exacerbated complexity, redundancy, and gratuitousness are pillars of the kind of art I like the most. https://i.imgur.com/54by70S.gif In computer systems development, there is this concept of "refactoring," a procedure by which a developer optimizes code so that it does the same thing…

  • On Writing Pixel Pulps - II - 5 December 2023

Here is our next installment from the Bahnsen Knights News Channel on writing Pixel Pulps... Francis Ponge is a French poet who among many other things wrote a book I read twenty years ago: Le Parti pris des choses (translated into English as Partisan of Things). His procedure is simple: Ponge looks for the extraordinary in the ordinary. He's not interested in exhausting the object in language, he doesn't seek definition by extension. For Ponge the "cigarette" is not a cylindrical roll of paper filled with shredded tobacco, designed to be lit at one end for smoking, but "a small torch much less luminous than aromatic". Ponge does not define an object, he seems to search for something more like an incantation! While developing Bahnsen Knights, Francis Ponge never crossed my mind. However, upon reviewing my notes, his writing procedure came to mind. Something about pulp fiction has always…

  • On Writing Pixel Pulps - I - 27 November 2023

In case you missed these posts on the Bahnsen Knights News channel, we'll post them here too for you to enjoy. Are you familiar with the "Marvel Method", a process in which Stan Lee would define a synopsis, receive pencilled artwork from the artist and add words over it? https://i.imgur.com/dMvjMZo.png Stan Lee by Fer. Really cool piece, right? Pixel Pulps writing is somehow similar to the Marvel Method: from a story outline I write, Fer puts together a storyboard in pencil and then I write over it. The iterative aspect is there. But there are at least two fundamental differences in our own process, two things that although they are not interrelated by definition, they do so by our own work logic: Stretching and Wildcards. In the Marvel Method, Stan Lee cannot stretch ad infinitum the text of a panel. Space is finite. But we? We can! We can keep a single image on screen and render as mu…

  • Pulp fiction and retro gaming in the 21st Century - 8 August 2023

Hello! We are Nico Saraintaris and Fernando Martinez Ruppel, co-creators of LCB Game Studio from Argentina. As we have Mothmen 1966 and Varney Lake in the Visual Novel Fest sale we thought this would be a good time to share with you this insight into how we approach creating our games. We have now released two games that belong in to a subgenre that we call Pixel Pulps, Mothmen 1966 and Varney Lake, with a third title, Bahhsen Knights, coming soon. So, what are Pixel Pulps? PIXEL PULPS Pixel Pulps are text adventure games in which we combine a type of narrative from the first half of the 20th century - the so-called 'Pulps', cheap paper magazines with large print runs that published stories in genres such as horror, crime, or science fiction - with home computer graphics and adventure game interface from the '80s. THE PULPS The relationship of our games with the Pulps is not only themat…

  • Varney Lake is available now! - 29 April 2023

Hello Everyone, We are really pleased to announce that Varney Lake, the next Pixel Pulps story, is out now! Want to find out a little more about the game? Then here's the trailer: Still want to know more? Well then, if you are a fan of storytelling, engaging puzzles, vampires and mysteries, this is the game for you! Varney Lake is the second Pixel Pulps story, following on from Mothmen 1966. The Pixel Pulps series is thematically inspired by 1950s pulp fiction magazines, with graphical inspiration from 1980s home computing. This combination leads to a very distinctive text adventure game... one we are sure will be quite different to anything you have played before (except Mothmen 1966). The story unravels one mystery across two timelines. In 1954, you will meet Jimmy, Doug and Christine. Three kids enjoying their summer vacation at Varney Lake, inventing games, dodging bullies... and ha…

Short description

Mothmen 1966 is a 'Pixel Pulp' - a visual novel fusing exceptional writing and stunning illustration, inspired by mid-20th century pulp fiction and 80s home computer graphics - set amongst the strange occurrences of the Leonid meteor shower of 1966.

About this game

More Pixel Pulps! More Pixel Pulps! Buzz About the Game At the edge of reality, where nightmare creatures lurk... November, 1966. The Leonid Meteor Shower. A young couple, a gas station owner, and a paranormal investigator get caught up in a terrifying conspiracy taking place at the edge of their reality, where nightmare creatures lurk, and the mysterious men in black lie in wait... Mothmen 1966 is the first in a new series of interactive adventures: Pixel Pulps. Created by novelist Nico Saraintaris and artist Fernando Martinez Ruppel, Pixel Pulps are a fusion of exceptional writing and stunning illustration, inspired by mid-20th century pulp fiction and 80s home computer graphics. The first volume comprises three games: Mothmen 1966, Varney Lake, and Bahnsen Knights. Mothmen 1966 , like all the Pixel Pulps, is made to be played by anyone who enjoys fine storytelling: Unfurl the dark wings of the rich, branching narrative Immerse yourself in the story with its rich, evocative illustrations Decide the fate of Mothmen 1966’s characters in ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ style gameplay Solve accessible brain-tickling puzzles throughout the story

Price History Overview

USD uses SteamPulse's own locally recorded daily store snapshots, so this overview reflects the exact regional price history that SteamPulse has captured for this currency.

Coverage And Tracking Window

  • Snapshots: 1
  • Coverage: Sep 22, 2026 to Sep 22, 2026
  • Lowest observed: $3.05
  • Highest observed: $3.05

Mothmen 1966's USD price history spans from Sep 22, 2026 to Sep 22, 2026, with 1 recorded snapshot across 1 calendar day. Each row records the available final price, listed base price, and discount metadata for that observation. Within this coverage the lowest recorded price is $3.05, the highest is $3.05, and the first visible tracked price is $3.05. These comparisons apply only to the snapshots SteamPulse holds; missing observations can contain changes that are not represented here.

For USD, SteamPulse uses locally captured regional storefront snapshots and does not reconstruct older prices with exchange-rate conversion. The chart and table show the values recorded for this exact currency from the stated coverage start. Additional snapshots extend that record, but they do not fill unobserved days or prove what the storefront displayed between observations.

Discount Windows And Sale Timing

  • Discount windows: 1
  • Discounted days: 1 day
  • Deepest markdown: -66%
  • Latest sale window: Sep 22, 2026 to Sep 22, 2026

SteamPulse has grouped rows carrying discount metadata into 1 recorded discount window, covering 1 calendar day and 1 discounted snapshot. The deepest recorded markdown is -66%, with a lowest recorded final price of $3.05 during rows named Steam sale. The latest recorded window starts Sep 22, 2026 and ends Sep 22, 2026, spanning 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking. Window boundaries follow the available snapshots, so gaps in coverage can make an actual sale shorter or longer than the recorded span.

Recorded sale names include Steam sale. The table reports the observed markdown, final price, snapshot dates, and any sale name supplied with the row. It can show whether similar discounts recur in the retained record, but it does not infer publisher intent, demand, or the reason a price changed.

Observed Price Changes And Stable Runs

  • Observed price drops: 0
  • Observed price rises: 0
  • Longest stable run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking
  • Current run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking

Outside rows carrying discount metadata, the tracked price has not recorded a separate price rise or drop yet. That means the observed undiscounted level has stayed stable across the snapshots SteamPulse currently holds. This is a statement about the recorded coverage only; it does not prove that an older or missing price change never happened.

The longest unchanged price stretch in the current record lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $3.05, from Sep 22, 2026 through Sep 22, 2026. The latest run records $3.05 for 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking with a listed discount from $8.99. Run lengths describe consecutive stored observations only and do not establish that a price is permanent.

Latest Snapshot And Sales Context

  • Current price: $3.05
  • Current list price: $8.99
  • Distinct observed prices: 1
  • Source mode: SteamPulse local tracking

The latest tracked snapshot records Mothmen 1966 at $3.05 in USD, with a listed base price of $8.99 and a -66% markdown. Across the available history SteamPulse has recorded 1 distinct final price in this currency. This supports comparisons with the lowest, highest, and most common values present in the retained record, subject to the stated coverage limits.

The live sales view and Steam sales record provide calendar context for these dates. A date overlap can be compared with a named Steam event, but it does not prove why a publisher changed a price. As new daily rows arrive, this overview recalculates its observed prices, discount windows, and run lengths automatically.
