- Developer profile update - 22 October 2025
Greetings Scavengers!Following last weeks Unity engine update (scroll down to see recent news posts), I wanted to drop a quick note to let you know we have updated our Steam developer profile. This is the hub on Steam that shows what games me and Sarah (SquarePlay Games) have made, but also what games we will be working on in the future. As a small indie studio its not always the easiest to gain an audience, to put it mildly, and we'd love to take you with us on our gamedev journey. Personally, I tend to enjoy making a variety of game types, but there is always a chance we will return to a genre, or make a spiritual successor or even sequel to one of our games. So if you're interested to see what's next, click through here and have a look, and consider following us there! Thanks!Al and Sarah (SquarePlay Games) Discord: https://discord.com/invite/squareplaygames

- Optimisation, bug fixes and better balance - 10 December 2024
Greetings Scavengers, For myself (who coded it) and Sarah (who did the art) making Space Trash Scavenger has been quite a journey over the last four years, and I wanted to take the chance to again thank everyone who helped test the game out during development. It has been really appreciated! Also, a big thank you to everyone who has left us a positive review on Steam. This really makes a big difference to a two person indie team like us. If you want to support us as a developer, please do think about dropping us a review if you like the game. And if you want to discuss anything, give feedback, or help in the future, consider dropping by our discord. So what's new in the build? Mainly this update brings more optimisations, some bug fixes and some improvements to balance. The optimisation is quite significant if you have a large rig with a lot of power sources. In these cases especially,…
- Hotfix 1.3 - 25 November 2024
Hi all, Based on your feedback in the forums and discord, I have made a hotfix with some balance improvements and fixes. Build 1.3: -Further increase in lithium spawn amounts and sources (now found in mushrooms). -Increased phosphorous spawn. -Reduce lithium requirment in thruster 3. -Reduce crop watered sound volume. -Fixed nanolattice tooltip to show produced by Chemforge correctly. -Entity no longer picked up by conveyors. -Reduce stack trace on debug for smaller logs and better performance. For those interested to help test the game for more advanced changes to the build, I have a beta branch on Steam. I am currently testing the next build 1.4 there which has following changes: Build 1.4: -reasonably significant optimisation on power network and UI optimisation which should further improve performance especially on larger rigs Thanks Al.
- Hotfix 1.2 - 23 November 2024
Just a note, you should disable g-sync while playing, if you have that running, at least on some systems, for better performance. Build 1.2: -fixed tool tip recipe for autoseller to match actual recipe
- Performance Fix - 19 November 2024
Greetings Scavengers, I wanted to give a fuller explanation and an update to the most recent hotfix. I've seen some reports and bad reviews based on poor performance which are very unfortunate and I want to address. I want to have the game run as well as I can. It honestly surprised me because the game has been testing pretty well for a year in Early Access. I can only apologise for these issues, I totally understand the frustration to have unexpected frame drops in a new game which looks like it should be fine. The fix After some testing i think I can now be sure the problem was related to a bug that crept in in final 1.0 update. After 4 years work it's unfortunate that this happened, but that is game dev and sometimes issues like this can crop up at launch. The upshot of the error was the game was set to a very high render scale. Additionally there seemed to be some sort of issue in h…
- Hotfix 1.02 - performance and balance - 18 November 2024
Greetings Scavengers, I've got a hotfix to address a few things that have come up since launch. Please do let me know anything you find in discord. I've seen a few reports of poor performance so made a change to address this, as well as some other balances. If you have low FPS try going into Options > Graphics and reducing Render Scale to around 0.5. There may be an error in how this setting is implemented. The change is not really visually perceptible and should improve your FPS on lower spec systems or laptops. In addition, when you open the game in Steam, you are presented with a choice of two builds, do try running the Lower Spec build with reduced texture memory as well if you have any problems. You should also check you have your latest GPU drivers installed and updated. I worked hard to include other graphical options too, so I suggest checking them out too. For example, you can…
- Satisfactory meets Starfield in Space Trash Scavenger, as it hits Steam 1.0 - 17 November 2024
What's the job market going to look like in a thousand years? Will we be cramped on dimly lit spaceships drifting through the abyss, doing our part in a utopia, or will the human race even be around? Out now in Steam 1.0, Space Trash Scavenger has an answer. It turns out we'll be traveling the stars, turning old other-worldly junk into something salvageable and automating the process as we go. With a dash of Factorio, Satisfactory, and myriad Steam survival crafting games like Rust and Valheim, you can play the full launch of Space Trash Scavenger right now. Read the rest of the story...
- Space Trash Scavenger 1.0 is OUT NOW! - 14 November 2024
Please note: While existing saves will work in 1.0, we recommend starting a new game to get the full and intended experience. Greetings Scavengers, Today I’m super excited to announce that Space Trash Scavenger is launching into full release! It’s been a fun time working on this in Early Access for the past year during which Sarah and I have been updating and adding to the game, very often based on your feedback. So thanks to everyone who took the time to submit ideas and file bugs, chat in Discord, it’s been a huge help. Quick recap: Space Trash Scavenger is a fully featured Factory and Automation game set in a semi open world with Survival mechanics, Building and Crafting. Pilot and build your Space Rig to scavenge and repurpose Space Trash to sell at a stock market with dynamic prices. The unique twist is that you do all this in a fully 3D microgravity environment, in a series of toy…
- Space Trash Scavenger launches this Thursday 14th November - 11 November 2024
Greetings Scavengers, I’ve got some exciting news to share. This week we’ll be launching version 1.0 of Space Trash Scavenger on Steam! It’s been almost exactly a year since we went into Early Access, and in that time we’ve been working hard to tweak, balance and improve the game, based both on your feedback and our own ideas. Now we’re ready to hit the launch button on the full release! Like other updates, the 1.0 build will bring a bunch of new stuff, including a new biome, new characters, new stories, new stock items and plenty of fixes and balance too. We’ve also added a Creative Mode so that you can build the Space Rig of your dreams without worrying about resources or money. Thanks to everyone who has picked up the game, helped test it, or just submitted feedback - it’s been a huge help. I'll see you on Thursday with more details, the full changelog, and the finished game! Al.
- There's a big update in the beta branch to test - 29 October 2024
Greetings Scavengers, Hope everyone is well. There's been a bunch of work going on here as we move towards 1.0, and I just wanted to drop a note that I have a big update along those lines in the beta branch. I'm looking for help playtesting this before launching it on the main branch. You can opt into the beta/experimental branch by right clicking the game in your library > properties > Beta and select it in the drop down. This is a very significant update. Ideally I'm looking for feedback from complete playthroughs from start to finish - yes there is an (optional) end now, as well as numerous other changes which I won't spoil here! So if you are interested, you should start a fresh save. However feedback on behaviour with existing saves wouldn't hurt too, of course. As usual, you can hit f1 to file any bugs you find, or drop by Discord to discuss. Thanks Al.
- Hotfix 0.78 - 7 September 2024
-Show correct HUD notifcations when receiving rewards from NPCs
- Hotfix 0.77 - 6 September 2024
-Re-implement Drone Pads. These can be used to locate Water drones on your rig. Apologies, these were removed in error in the prior update. If you started a run in build 0.76 I recommend a restart if you wish to specifically locate water drones on your rig. They will otherise centre on the player (in some cases may be acceptable, it depends how you want to play).
- Grenade and Rubble update - 5 September 2024
Greetings Scavengers, It has been a busy week here, so I decided to post another update in addition to the Flashlight Update! Lets get into it. Grenade countdown Grenades now have a visible 3 second countdown showing their area of effect. This makes it easier to get out of their damage radius and to better target enemies. They now also cause any mineable rocks in their area of effect to be destroyed! Shotgun shatter As well as blasting Entity, the shotgun will now also have a chance to shatter any mineable rocks you hit with it. Level 3 shotguns could be a time saver. Here's a Scavenger blasting some rock with a shotty before blowing some more up with a nade: Fetch Drones discontinued ScavCorp Fetch drones were an early tech designed to assist Scavengers by retrieving nearby trash. However, since the introduction of Trash-tor Beams (like tractor beams!) and pilotable rigs, they are no l…
- Build 0.70 - 2 September 2024
Greetings Scavengers, Just a small but important update this time. I've had a lot of request for this so I've added a flashlight toggle key! This defaults to "Y", but you can change the binding along with any other controls in Options > Controls. Make sure you remember to toggle it on when exploring those freight ships and deep mines in the later sectors! There were also a couple of other fixes. Here is the full changelog: Build 0.70 -Updated scanned asteroid entity base labelling behaviour to prevent mislabelling in various scenarios. -Update labelling of "Mods" to be "Suit Mods" to avoid confusing some people. -Added flashlight toggle options to Key Y -Updated controls labelling for telescanner and flashlight to be clearer in rebind menu.
