Steam's "Best of British Indie Bundle" features six games from across the pond, while Indie Royale's "Getaway Bundle" is so named for its variety of exotic settings--and not for The Getaway . Angry Birds creator Rovio Entertainment has bought the gaming arm of Futuremark. Futuremark specialises in PC performance benchmarking, but its game development arm, Futuremark Games Studio, has released Unstoppable Gorg, The Shattered Horizon and Hungribles. It retains its IPs as part of the deal. "They are an incredibly talented and experienced team, and we are thrilled to have them on board," said Mikael Hed, Rovio Entertainment's CEO. "Rovio's success is founded on the excellence of our team, and Futuremark Games Studio is going to be a superb addition." - Angry Birds dev Rovio acquires Futuremark Games Studio - 27 March 2012
In 2008, 3DMark maker Futuremark launched Futuremark Games Studio, a new wing focused on making games rather than benchmarks, which went on to release space FPS Shattered Horizon , mobile puzzler Hungribles , and tower defense Unstoppable Gorg . Now, it's lopped that wing off and sold it to fellow Finnish company Rovio, the creator of Angry Birds . The acquisition will see Futuremark Games Studio join Rovio, but Shattered Horizon, Gorg, and Hungribles will remain the property of the main Futuremark body. It could still make sequels to these, then, if it wants to and can find a third-party developer. Rovio describes the acquisition as part of "its rapid expansion in entertainment, publishing, animation, and retail." It's keeping quiet on how much, or what, it paid for FGS, though. - Shattered Horizon gets Last Stand singleplayer mode - 4 April 2011
Shattered Horizon is a first person multiplayer shooter set in space. Each player is locked into a space suit, and participate in zero-G combat across sprawling interstellar maps like space stations and shattered asteroids high above the Earth's surface. Until now, Shattered Horizon has been a multiplayer only game. The challenge of mastering the suit's propulsion systems and the innovative weapons like the vision-obscuring ice grenade means a steep learning curve for newcomers. The latest update adds bots to Shattered Horizon, giving new players a way to get plenty of practice before hitting live servers. The patch also adds a Last Stand mode, in which four players must co-operate to fend off waves of attackers. UPDATE: This is now available on the Steam version of the game, and will update automatically. The next update for zeg-G astro-manshooter Shattered Horizon is called Last Stand , and it’s going to add bot support to all the multiplayer modes. It’s also got one of those co-op “fight waves of bots” modes added to it, “which pits a team of four against waves of increasingly difficult bot enemies.” No exact launch date for this yet, but “before the end of the month”. It’s turning out to be quite a rounded shooter. If they have another one of those free weekends we’ll have to organise an RPS pile-on.

We have just updated the bots running on the open bot beta servers. The update happens on our side so you won't need to download anything from Steam in order to play against the new bots. The new bots are live now on EU beta servers. The US beta servers will be updated this evening. Bot version 0.3 The most noticeable changes include: * Bots now have individual aggression levels. Some will take cover when shot at and some will charge. ;* Each bot now has its own difficulty level parameter which affects its reaction time and accuracy. ;* Difficulty levels vary from 0: easy to 10: very hard and can also be set to Dynamic. The default is Dynamic which changes the difficulty based on the K/D ratio of the targeted enemy. ;* Bots can now use machinegun and railgun. Well, only two multiplayer games, but they are games. One is zero-G astronaut battler (with excellent space furniture), Shattered Horizon , and the other is slightly wonky Wild West shoot ‘em up Lead & Gold: Gangs Of The Wild West . They’re temporarily free to play on Steam over the weekend, with a large discount for actual permanent purchase if the freeness persuades you of long-term appeal. Hmm. That – Shattered Horizon, I mean – would have made a good game club outing. As Phill pointed out , it’s benefited great from its updates. Oh well, maybe we squeeze in some astronaut deathmatchery between the Arma II exploits . Hell, I bet Notch goes and makes SMP work properly before the weekend and then I will have to play that too.
