  All Backrooms employees, I'd like to update you on the current state of the game. Over the last 2 years I have been working on a total overhaul of the game. This is a complete rebuild from the ground up that was necessary to tell the story I wanted to tell. I know the game has suffered from a lack of updates due to this but it's finally in a place I think people can start testing it. • Update 7.5 - 7 April 2026

  This update makes improvements to the entity AI as well as some quality-of-life improvements like passages to the other parts of the map being exposed in the start area. We've also refined the door mechanics to make it more responsive: This is the last update before we push a major overhaul of the entire game. I understand updates have been slow but with the next major update we'll able to share all the work we've been doing on the last year. • Central Update 7: The Hallway and Quality fixes - 3 February 2025

  Dear Employees, This is a small patch addressing bugs and quality of life improvements. I figured I'd also unlock the current state of The Hallways for testing. In this patch: Intro to The Hallways. This is a tricky area that's easy to get mixed up in. Quality to life improvements which gives you a way to quickly get to different areas on the map if you die. Bug fix where inverting the controls wouldn't save. Bug fix where outpost 3 and 4 achievements were swapped. Significant optimizations with regards to lighting. Lastly, I want to thank everyone who has played the game and especially those that gave feedback. It's been a tough year but we've been able to increase the frequency of updates and I think that's only going to increase going forward. • Central Update 6: Expanded Areas and Bug fixes - 26 November 2024

  Major Update Dear Employees, We Apologize for the delay in communications. Please be aware: The area you're tasked with may have drastically increased in size. New rooms have been reported to us by numerous other employees and we are no longer accepting complaints. Fortunately, these seems to have decreased entity aggression. Additionally, we've adjusted our algorithms to recognize interactions with entities (should they occur). This ensures employees get awarded achievements and proper compensations to the families. As always, Do not communicate or interact with any government personnel including the military. This is grounds for immediate termination.

• Update 5.1 Intro and Priorities - 6 October 2023

  I want to break character for a moment and address a harsh but fair criticism we received claiming this game is an asset flip. This is actually a very real problem on Steam and a lot of good developers can get pushed into obscurity by the volume of games getting released daily. This however is not an asset flip I'd like to take a moment to explain some of the work I've done, why it matters, and let you all decide for yourselves. As a solo developer that primarily codes I am very much dependent of assets for things like models, animations, and textures. I do however put a lot of effort into modifying the assets for my specific use case and optimizations. The asset pack referenced is the Backrooms Horror Template.   Welcome to The Backrooms! Thank you everyone for giving this game a chance. The latest update addresses a number on bugs and optimizations including: Lighting complexity on intro environment - apparently some of the equipment was causing the breakers to overload. This normally isn’t a problem but since the door to the real world unexpectedly shut we need to make sure everyone on our end it working. Transition to the undefined environments - from the bodies we’ve found already, it seems to be random when victims noclip into the Backrooms but we still need to be sure to document anomalies we encounter.
