- Another little update for you all - now you can jump through time in NG+! - 14 September 2026
Hey all! Another little update for you all - now you can jump through time in NG+!By accessing the planner you can choose a day and time to warp to, if you want to speed around the game to access specific moments. Because of how our flag system works, you can't go back in time, only forward. But still, pretty nice? This is only accessible after you've beaten the game once, of course. Here's some video of the planner in action. Also, we've made a minor ending change, which is only relevant to new players. Now, regardless of how many relationships you've built, a new player's first ending will always be Namako's. This is what we view as the canon ending, and it has the most emotional impact. Frankly, it should've been this way at launch, to avoid someone accidentally choosing a "goofy" ending to the game, which can cheapen the experience. Once you've gone through her ending, all the others b…
- The Steam-specific update, and Summer Sale! - 25 June 2026
Hey all! It's summer sale time, so the game is 20% off for two weeks - to celebrate, we've added another small update. This one is specific to Steam, and contains two small updates: rich presence and Steam Timeline/Game Recording. Let's get into it. Rich Presence. This is the little thing that appears by your name when you're playing a game. So now, if you're sharing that information with friends on Steam, it will give more specifics than "playing Demonschool." Friends will be able to see exactly where you are in the game. It also makes it easier to find other people who are playing the game.Steam Timeline & Game Recording. This gives greater granularity to Steam's game recording feature. In the recording Timeline Steam now shows marker pins at the start of all main story and sidequests for easy clipping. Some special events get also get special pins, like combos, special attacks, and st…
- Demonschool DLC is coming this year! - 9 June 2026
This DLC is focused on "puzzle battles," which present you with specific setups that must be solved within one turn. You are given a certain set of characters in specific positions, with a certain set of enemies in specific positions, and you have to essentially "solve" the board. This is for the players that enjoy the puzzle-y nature of Demonschool's battles - it will make you feel smart when you figure things out!Two new items will help you in these battles - one which charges any character's special instantly, and another which instantly confers a specific technique. Another trick to these is touching them takes no action points! There are 50 main puzzles plus a new boss which offers even MORE puzzles. This is of course surrounded by a new sidequest story which takes place across the length of the game, starting with week 9. Players who have already beaten Demonschool will have a conc…
- The BIG free update - 23 May 2026
Hello all! Thanks for all the support you've given Demonschool so far. It's been lovely to hear from folks who see themselves in these characters, people who vibe with the battle mechanics, and folks who just like hanging out in this world. As we hinted in our last update, there were a few more things we had wanted to do with the game if we had extra time. So we decided to reward everyone with a nice update. We want to be clear about what this is and isn't - this is a quality of life update with a bunch of extra interactive details, not a major story update. But there's enough here that we hope folks will get something out of it.Here's what you'll find.New game plusYou can now start a New Game+ from your completed save file. This allows you to play through the game from the start with all abilities, opals, credits, relationships, clubhouse styles, clubhouse upgrades and fish gained thro…
- Last day of Spring sale, and update soon!? - 24 March 2026
Hello all! We forgot to alert you when the sale started, but there's still more than a full day left. So don't forget to grab Demonschool (or that art book DLC!?) for 20% off. You've still got time! We've also continued to work on the game over here, finding a lot of improvements we could make along the way. And that means - yes - we have an update coming soon. It's weighted toward quality of life, but there's some game content in there too. Mostly a lot of little things, but things which we believe will impact play quite a bit, especially for those of you who may have missed a sidequest or two. That's the only hint you're getting! We should have more information on all of this pretty soon. We're going to keep the details quiet for now, but please anticipate! Thanks for playing Demonschool, and as always, please leave a review if you liked the game! As a reward for reading this, please enj…
- Demonschool fan art extravaganza - 4 February 2026
Hello, friends! The response to Demonschool has been great, and we've heard from a lot of folks who see themselves in some of these characters (nobody really sees themselves as Jem, for some reason), or enjoy their friendships, or their activism, or simply beating up demons. One side effect of all this is we've gotten the most fan art of any game we've ever released. We thought we'd share some of the art we've gotten across the last couple of months (with permission from the artists, of course). If you've made any fan art, please tag us on Bluesky or similar, and maybe we'll be able to feature it in a future roundup. And stay tuned to the end for a small update!Faye/mercy having "very straight thoughts" according to author E.B. Hutchins. By E.B. - Behind the scenes with Demonschool. We've got devlogs! - 23 January 2026
Hey folks! Long ago we promised you devlogs, and we've finally made good! We went a bit extra on it and turned them all into videos. Tonally, we tried to split the difference and make something accessible that game developers might also find interesting. We did five of them, each around 3 minutes long, and hopefully they give you a nice window into the creative processes behind Demonschool.Devlog #1: The battle systemIn this video we share our approach to battles without leveling or experience points, and our aim to make them quick to play once you have a handle on the systems.Devlog #2: world buildingIn this one we discuss our approach to keeping a lively world while hopefully not overwhelming players. We really thought people would be playing the game more piecemeal over time, so we designed the game around that. It turns out a lot of folks are just playing straight through! Interesti…

- Demonschool Devlogs! - 15 December 2025
At long last, we're continuing our devlog series! We're doing short-form videos now, and we'll be releasing one per week for the next 4 weeks - the first two episodes are out now! The first one is about how we went about constructing our battle system, including our decision not to use levels or experience points. In episode 2, we explain how we broke up the story of demonschool into digestible chunks, while also trying to make a world that is full of things to do without being overwhelming or daunting. We want to be more transparent about our process, and this is one step toward that! Stay tuned for another one next week!

- Bundles galore! - 28 November 2025
Hello everyone - First of all, thanks for playing Demonschool and sending positive vibes and bug reports. Don't forget to review the game if you liked it, since it does help us a lot! We also wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the games we're doing bundles with during launch. Each of these games are 10% off if you already own Demonschool! First is our bundle with the survival horror RPG Look Outside, published by Devolver Digital. This Francis Coulombe game takes the horror a lot more seriously than we do, but you can certainly see the parallels. Look Outside x Demonschool bundleNext we have a bundle with Into the Breach, a tactics game that you should definitely get if you don't already have it. Many have felt our battle systems have some similarities, so we figured why not bundle together in weird tiny tactics solidarity! Into The Breach X Demonschool bundleThen there's the…

- Demonschool (PC) Review - 18 November 2025
Hindsight is kinda funny when you think about it. I was pretty bummed when Demonschool pushed back its initial September launch date for fear of being overshadowed by Hollow Knight: Silksong , but then the conversation around that game got so weird , and it felt like people moved on pretty quickly. Had it come out when it was meant to, it might’ve been held aloft as the hidden gem deserving of the real attention. I’m being humorous for dramatic purposes, obviously, since I’ve said before , while I think games should be able to stand on their own and a single one shouldn’t dominate the conversation, that just isn’t the reality we live in. Truthfully, I’m glad Demonschool decided to release when it would have eyes on it because, holy moly, does it deserve it. I genuinely can’t think of a single aspect of Demonschool that I don’t like. Right from the get-go, the game throws you into its st…

- Demonschool launch delayed to November 19th - 25 August 2025
Hey folks, this is Brian from Ysbryd Games, the publisher of Demonschool.Demonschool was set to launch on Sept. 3, but after much anguished consideration (and screaming, and teeth gnashing etc) on our part, we’ve made the decision to move the game’s release to Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025.(In case you're wondering why the store page doesn't reflect this change yet as of this writing: To change the release date this close to launch, Valve needs to have it requested and approved manually!)With 11 years under our belt as an indie publisher, we at Ysbryd Games are reasonably qualified to say that any point of 2025, on balance, has been or will be as brutal as market conditions can get when it comes to releasing a game. The joke got more cruel when we found out with such short notice that Hollow Knight: Silksong will launch just one day after our planned release for Demonschool. We have to remind…

- Demonschool Devlog #0: Burn status - 27 August 2024
Like many tactics games, Demonschool has a number of status effects. Some of them are old standards. There's Poison, which reduces a character's HP by 1 per turn, or Stun, which keeps a character frozen in place until they are healed. Others are tweaks on effects we've seen elsewhere. Doomed, for example, kills the inflicted character within three turns unless they're healed, regardless of how much HP they have. Tethered is a Stun-like status that's only inflicted as long as a character is grabbed by an enemy. We also have the Possessed status, in which a demon rides your characters like a jockey, trying to move them into places where they'll take damage. But today I want to talk to you about Burn. This effect came to be when looking at the firey enemies we had already created. They should have something special to them, right? So our first stab was this: A character with burn status sl…
