Devlog for Skykipelago – A Chill Building Strategy Game in the Sky Hello, Sky Builders! Long time no see! While we were away, we were hard at work to finally bring you a playable Skykipelago demo. When? Pretty soon! Steam Next Fest starts on October 14th, with Press Preview on October 4th. We plan to have the demo live by then. What's in the demo? The demo will contain two modes: Points Mode, where your goal is to collect as many points as possible. Some buildings like to have neighbors, some prefer... well... no neighbors (I'm looking at you, Hermit Hut). Pay attention to the needs of individual buildings to maximize your points. Happiness Mode, where your goal is to make as many buildings happy as possible. Every building has a specific happiness threshold. Once it meets that threshold, a building becomes happy. Let's get into it! Recently, we've been working hard on our particle system. It has two main purposes: to look beautiful; to highlight important info for the player. It's still WIP but you can see the results below: These particles highlight the 'moar buildingsss' button. Your commitment is invaluable and it only makes us more determined to deliver you the best quality possible. Now, onto the UI... Our hard-working QA testers noted that buildings that are meant for the cliffsides are not clearly visible on the Buildings List. So we added a small arrow indicating that hey, this Skyfishing Station is a Cliffside Building and therefore can't be placed on the ground. Kudos to our talented QA Testers, who once again saved the day! Without that indicator, many players could have been easily confused during gameplay. ...Aand that's all for today. Devlog for Skykipelago - A Chill Building Strategy Game in the Sky Hello, sky builders! In our last devlog, we unveiled our latest addition: the Evolution and Happiness Tower. This week, we were working extra hard to make sure that islands' procedural generation wouldn't mess it up. Like on the screen below... So we're taking steps to ensure that the towers have their place and don't collide with the islands. And that no bridge ends in the void between islands... Fortunately, we've already tackled this challenge! Additionally, we've implemented tooltips to display the progress of the towers. As they level up, they grow in size. This week, our focus has been on refining the models for two pivotal structures: the Evolution Tower and the Happiness Tower. Now, you might be wondering: 'wait, you can place towers in Skykipelago?'. Well, you can place plenty other buildings. The towers, however, serve a unique function. Both the Evolution Tower and the Happiness Tower grow as you skillfully expand your city. By reaching higher tower levels, you'll be rewarded with platforms to expand your city, more buildings, and a hefty points bonus. Initially, our efforts were centered on simply updating the tower models... However, as development progressed, it became apparent that something was missing. Thus, we made the decision to incorporate dedicated platforms for these towers, ensuring they wouldn't encroach upon valuable island space. A…
