- Devlog From Behind The Bars #25 - Props & Objects - 15 January 2026
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! This devlog is all about the 3D objects you see around the prison. You might not notice them at first, but they were carefully crafted so you can notice them… and then immediately ignore them while running from guards. The Steel Locker It started in Blender as a cube. Then as another cube and then finally as a slightly shaped cube. We used classic box modeling, adding cuts, bevels, and details until it looked like something that could actually exist in a prison and not in a sci-fi movie. Here is how it looks in-game: Industrial Lamps The lamps hanging above the platforms were designed to look "industrial". They serve another purpose except lighting: players can hop on them and move away from threats. Here is how it looks in-game: Once props survive Blender, they’re sent i…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #24 - Meet the Gym Guy - 9 January 2026
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! Every great prison needs a legend. Ours started as “that guy who teaches you parkour in playtest” and ended up becoming the "Gym Guy", the most shredded inmate in Prison Survival. This is his story. 🏃 The Parkour Era During early playtests, we needed someone to teach players parkour. So we created one prisoner NPC and told him: “Teach a players some moves” In the full game, he now lives in the prison gym, where he helps you train, improve stats, and probably judges your form silently. He doesn’t talk much. He doesn’t need to. 🧍♂️ Built Different (Literally) Same guy. New job. Bigger muscles. He just stands there, flexing menacingly. We made him in Blender, starting from a normal human body… and then accidentally pressing scale one too many times ;) Also his head needed…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #23 - Characters and their funny stuff - 28 November 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! This week’s devlog is all about characters and funny stuff that we can make with them! Let’s begin. 🧑🎨 Making Characters in Blender - The Land of Infinite Undo So, character creation starts in Blender, where we sculpt humans who are supposed to look normal. Supposed to. 👗 Clothing System We’re working on clothes too! We model them in 3D, slap them onto the characters, and hope they don’t explode out of the mesh like they’re possessed. 🦴 Bones in Unity - Welcome to the BONE ZONE Once our characters survive Blender, we bring them into Unity. This is where we set up their bones - the skeletal structure that makes them move more like humans. Ye, you can make atrocities too! For example mix human with other objects. 🧍♂️ Pose Testing We test poses to make sure everything…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #22 - Ai and other tech stuff... - 21 November 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! Welcome back! Today we’ve got Addressables, experimental AI, and NPCs doing whatever they want (as always). Let’s dive in. 🎒 Addressables in Unity - AKA “Why Your Game Doesn’t Melt Your GPU We finally added Addressables! 🎉 For the non-nerds: Addressables help us load only the stuff the player actually sees. So if you’re staring at a wall (as many of you do), the game won’t bother loading the pack of angry guards behind you. They only materialize when you turn around, like badly timed horror jumpscares. This means fewer memory issues, smoother gameplay, and less crying from our programmer. Its actually in a lot of games... but no one will tell you this and how exactly they work in their projects ;) 🤖 AI Experiments We started testing the AI on a giant green-orange testi…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #21 - From Bars to Vents - 20 October 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! Today we’re crawling through the vents (literally) to talk about one of the most exciting - and risky -parts of prison life: sneaking around when you’re not supposed to. 🕳️ The Vent Life Every good prison story needs a bit of air circulation and a lot of bad ideas. That’s why we’ve added vent systems that players can actually use to sneak between areas. They’re tight, dark, and claustrophobic - perfect for late-night adventures or desperate escapes. 🌙 Night Moves But watch out: vents creak, metal echoes, and some guards have ears sharper than your courage. When the lights go out, the prison changes. Patrols tighten up, cameras sweep slower, and if you’re smart (and quiet), you might just find paths you’d never see during the day. 👮 The Snitches & The Watchers You can s…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #20 Life Behind polygons and behind bars - 2 October 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! 🧍 Life Behind Polygons Meet the Inmates We’ve started building our prisoners in 3D, complete with unique looks, animations, and a touch of personality. Some are tough, some are nervous wrecks, some… well, you wouldn’t trust them with your lunch tray. 🛠️ How We Made Them Our team’s been busy sculpting, rigging, and animating. Making sure they look gritty enough for prison life, but expressive enough to tell their own stories. You’ll notice scars, tattoos, and little details that hint at who they were before the bars closed in. I think he lost something in priosn riot... 🤝 More Than NPCs Prisoners and other NPCs aren’t just background extras. They’re allies, rivals, snitches, gang members… and sometimes your only friend when things get rough. Each one can change your sur…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #19 Concrete Nightmares: Mapping the Prison - 25 September 2025
Hello Prisoners! Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! This week, we’re zooming out - way out - to talk not about cells or guards, but about the prison itself. The walls, the corridors, the hidden corners where trouble brews… that’s the stage where all your survival stories unfold. 🏛️ Inspired by the "Real Thing" We didn’t just throw some walls together and call it a prison. Nope - we studied real layouts of correctional facilities. From cell blocks to cafeteria lines, our design is rooted in reality. it’s about how the space shapes your choices. A long corridor means you’re exposed. A blind corner means opportunity. And that giant yard? It’s either your playground… or your battlefield. 🏗️ Concrete Nightmares We’re excited to show you some early engine shots of the prison layout. Think of it as a blueprint come to life – blocky, raw, but full of potential. You’ll see how…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #18 Guards - friend or foe? - 3 September 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! This time we’re shining the spotlight on the people who make sure your prison “staycation” doesn’t get too comfy… the guards. Guards They patrol the halls, they break up fights, they yell at you for no reason (or at least it feels that way). But in Prison Survival, guards aren’t just background - they’re a whole faction in the prison ecosystem. We’ve added different types of guards, each with their own quirks, routines. Some are strict, some are lazy, and some might even look the other way if you’ve got the right connections. Friend or Foe? Here’s the twist: guards aren’t just enemies. They can be allies too. Sure, they’re the 4th “gang” in our little prison world, and yeah, they’ll happily bust you if you’re up to trouble… …but bribe the right one, run errands, or simply…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #17 Prison Cells - 29 August 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! Time for another update straight from the cell block! In this devlog, we’re going behind bars (literally) to talk about… prison cells. Yep, the cozy little rooms you’ll be calling home in Prison Survival. 🛏️ Beds, Desks & More We’ve been working hard on building the furniture you’ll find in your cell. Beds, desks, lockers – all the essential “I-live-here-now” items (no gaming consoles, sorry) And yes… the bed is technically for sleeping, but let’s be honest: it’s mostly for plotting your next great escape. 😏 🧻 The Legendary Toilet Paper It’s not just hygiene - it’s sometimes a currency, it’s treasure, it’s a symbol of hope. Collect it, hoard it, trade it… just don’t ask how it got so valuable. 🎨 How We Made It We put extra love into creating the assets for your prison…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #16 Prison Gangs - 21 August 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! Gangs Here’s the deal with the gans in prison: you’ll need to work with other gangs… and sometimes fight them. Maybe you’ll trade protection for favors, maybe you’ll get double-crossed in the cafeteria - but hey, that’s prison life. The balance of power shifts every day, so you’ll need strategy, charm, and a little chaos to make it out on top!! Do you want your own gang? You got it! Wanna take over another gang? That’s on the table too-though we’re still figuring out if it’ll be a feature. Hidden BOSS And speaking of bosses… meet one of our standout characters: Don’t let the silver hair and slick glasses fool you. This guy is the definition of a gangster. He can plan a twisted plan while sipping coffee and making the entire prison think he’s harmless. More screens of how…

- Devlog From Behind The Bars #15 - Contraband and trade - 1 August 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! First of all – HUGE thanks to everyone who's currently participating in the playtests! You're helping us a ton, and your feedback is pure gold! Prison trading So yes – in our game, survival isn’t just about keeping your head down and avoiding bad looks. It’s also about making connections. Trading snacks for favors. Swapping meds for smokes. Smuggling in that “very illegal but very needed” item past the guards without getting your face reintroduced to the floor. Trade in real prisons is a whole ecosystem, and we’re building our little prison system too! BUT! In the current playtest, this system is only lightly represented. Think of it as a little teaser - just a taste. The real dirty deals are coming in the demo and the full release, where we’ll be introducing deeper trade…

- Devlog From Behind The Bars #14 "Free-man" in prison?! - 3 July 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! We’ve been cooking up some new inmates for Prison Survival, and today we want to share a behind-the-scenes look at one of our most unexpected creations... The Birth of Morgan Jailman So, one of our talented artists was sculpting a new inmate in Blender. Things were going fine - until we zoomed out and realized... HE LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE. The resemblance was uncanny - calm expression, wise eyes, and that unmistakable character. Naturally, we did the only logical thing: We named him “Jailman.” Sculpting In the process, we experimented with different hair options - fully bald? Short curls? Gray sideburns? We even made a before and after comparison image we call. 3D Details On the technical side: -Facial rigging for realistic expressions -Blendshapes for aging effects (wrinkles…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #13 - Built to Intimidate: Guards and Inmates - 27 June 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! Today we’re taking you behind the scenes - into the dark art of making mean faces in Prison Survival. “Ugly face? That’s by design!” We spent the last few weeks refining the look of our prison population -adding more grit, more personality, and more attitude. And the guards? Well, some of them really enjoy their job a little too much. Maybe they should switch places? (ever heard of DAS EXPERIMENT?) Our goal was simple: Make every inmate instantly memorable. Make every guard either feared… or mockable. Here are some progress and inspirations. "Speed and weight" Ah yes. Officer "Fatty". Wide shoulders. WIde range of INTERACTIONS. The kind of guy who chews gum like it owes him money. He’s not the final boss. But he can (and want to) get to your a$$. He is a bit slow, you can…
- Devlog From Behind The Bars #12 - Traversal shenanigans - 11 June 2025
Hello Prisoners! Stand up! Be quiet! Your fav CO is speaking! ;) Welcome back to another devlog for Prison Survival! Eyes up! No, seriously - look up! Because you're gonna need those reflexes sharpened! We've been busy upgrading the ledge-grabbing and pipe-movement mechanics. You can now grip onto narrow ledges like a true escape artist, swing across pipes He’s climbing WHAT now? We’ve reworked the climbing code and polished transitions between movement states. Basically it is: Ledge >> Pipe >> Ledge transitions We even implemented smarter auto-grabs but don't worry: all hard work in moving aroudn priosner is still on YOUR side! "Hands where I can see ‘em!" Fluid jumps between pipes and ledges Jumping from one pipe to another, or from pipe to ledge, now feels much more natural and responsive. In the game ingine environment Well-aimed "prison parkour" move ! How it looks in-game Thanks f…
