With this game's sequel, Frebbventure Alliance, planned to launch next Saturday, August 1st, I'm putting the Frebbster on his deepest discount yet: 85% off, for one week! That's like, basically $2! Buy it for all of your friends, acquaintances and enemies, and then get excited for next GEM!
- Frebbventure Alliance - Playable alpha demo! - 27 July 2024
Suffering from post-Frebbventure depression? It's been known to happen, but now you needn't suffer anymore! Go on, give it a look! What's new? What's different? Nothing, but also everything. It's the exact same formula you loved the first time, but faster, smoother, prettier... good music-ier, and even more jam packed than last time. More enemies, more bosses, more level variety, more platforming mechanics, and more playable characters with more customization. The biggest changes to the formula are that you now control a tag team of two characters at the same time (DKC style, there's no weird gimmicks or shoddy follower AI getting in the way,) and that the the bonus objective system has been replaced with slightly more standard collectable crystals and a style/ranking system based on avoiding damage and chaining together currency pickups and enemy KOs. (Don't worry if you get a C rank o…
- The madlad actually did it - 2 January 2024
Five months or so ago I claimed that I "might eventually add a fullscreen toggle in the graphics menu." I was sick today and didn't feel like working on any of my current projects, so I slapped it in real quick and patched it through. Requires DEmotivation to finish his game, ultimate SIGMA gamedev. 🍷 🗿
- Sequel in the Works - 6 December 2023
Amongst at least half a dozen prototypes for "my next big game" and beside a relative side-project or two Erma, a viable Frebbventure sequel is finally starting to take shape! "Frebbventure Alliance" is the working title. What's different this time around? Nothing but also everything. It's still a fast-paced, combat-focused action platformer with Kirby-style movesets. It's still heavy on story and especially atmosphere, and it's still playable at a base level with a nearly unlimited technical skill ceiling. There are, however, still a few major changes, beyond better level design and moveset flow and crisper art. First and most obviously, the tagteam character system. Wasn't it neat, being able to bring one of four completely unique characters with their own moves and gimmicks into any level you wanted? Well now you can bring TWO with you, and the overall tally isn't finalized, but ther…
- Save reformatting: the re-reformattening - 21 August 2023
Remember how I tried to change save formats before, to make files more transferable and set up the groundworks for Steam Cloud support? Remember how it broke stuff? Well this time it probably didn't! Let me know if it did.
- Savegame format change - 5 June 2023
I've finally got around to replacing the old encrypted save system with something that should allow you to transfer save files more easily. This new file format will automatically copy, but not replace, the data from your old files upon booting the game. If you navigate to the "Frebbventure" folder in AppData/local, you might see for example a file named "frebbventure_save1.sav" along with one named "frebb_save_1_newformat." In case the name doesn't make it obvious enough, the latter is your new, transferable save file. I should note, this is purely a futureproofing feature: if your old file has ALREADY been separated from its original machine, this process will, sadly, not recover it. You'll need to remove it from the folder, or the game will still crash at the file select screen. Once your new format file has been generated, feel free to remove your old files (but, just in case this a…
- The 'Rox Your World' patch - 5 April 2023
The point of this latest patch is to make Roxy a more fun character to play as based on user feedback, and absolutely not to fix yet another handful of crashes. The main changes to her are: - She now starts moving a BIT faster from a standstill. - Overall air control is more sensitive. - Her dodge covers significantly more ground. It's still nowhere near as good as Drinn's, but it's not quite borderline useless anymore. - Her aerial up attack has a slightly larger hitbox, and gives a stronger upward boost. - Her shoulder slam has received the most adjustment. It now grants more initial speed (especially when used midair,) but can also be slowed down faster by holding the opposite direction. Speaking of midair use, it now functions as a VERY weak double-jump, but can also be cancelled into her up-air at any time. While it has always been cancellable into a belly slam for precision landin…
- Next patch delayed because I bricked my PC trying to upgrade RAM - 25 March 2023
Disclaimer: DON'T PANIC! I already backed up the most recent development build. It is stored safely, soundly, and snuggly across multiple redundant devices. That being said, while attempting to install a pair of 8GB ram sticks early this afternoon, I may or may not have completely and utterly destroyed the only (relatively) powerful and up-to-date machine in my household. Best case scenario, I get it into a professional place next Monday, and they have it fixed by Tuesday, after which I can continue bug squashing. Likely case: I'll have to buy a new computer, probably a renewed or refurbished one, on the cheap. It could be more than a week before I get it, it might not be functional, and I might have to return it and wait another week or so to get another one. If you reach the true final boss, more specifically the true true final phase, which is an autoscrolling SHMUP (spoiler,) wait o…
- Feedback Patch 1 complete - 6 March 2023
Remember the good old days when games worked out of the box? I don't, I grew up with the GameCube, and if Sonic got absorbed by a solid stone wall and fell into the void, that was YOUR problem. Hallelujah to the digital age! A bit less than a week in, and already a ton more bugs have been found and patched (you don't want to read all of them... I don't want to admit all of them... ːsteamsadː ) but that's not all! Here're some neat little quality of life changes made at the behest of helpful players: - All characters (except Drinn) now start with 1 extra heart of HP - Because this game, and its bosses in particular, can be hard. Harder than I set out to make it, honestly. It's tough, balancing a game around the experience of yourself and a small group of dedicated testers. The game performed decently at previous SAGE outings, but indepth feedback was in fairly short supply. ...Drinn is a…
