- Patch 2.2.1 Live - Multiplayer / Terminal Support Added - 10 July 2026
Attention Captains,Patch 2.2 is now LIVE!The work on the multiplayer / terminal beta is now complete. This means that you can now assemble a crew of sorts and fly together to uncover the mystery of the Astra Protocol. Will it me a case of many hands make light work, or will it be too many cooks spoil the broth? Here's a summary of all the changes since the last major patch:New FeaturesTerminal SupportThis is the headline feature for this release. We've added in the ability to connect to Astra Protocol 2 via a remote terminal. This is some pretty simple tech at the root of it, so it can be a PC, mobile device, or even older tech. As long as you're able to connect through to an IP endpoint, and enter and receive text commands, it should work for you (though some network configuration may be required).Terminals offer an extra way to input text commands - including almost all of the regular…
- Multiplayer Beta Update #2 - 9 June 2026
Attention Captains,We've uploaded v2.1.4 of the Astra Protocol 2 multiplayer / terminal beta.We believe we're now at the stage where all major features and core functionality are in place. From here, our focus is on tracking down any remaining bugs and ensuring everything runs smoothly. We've even found time to fix another couple of extra issues along the way. Here's a brief summary of some of the changes:New Terminals - Engineering and DockingThese modes now display their intended readouts, giving crew members the information they need.Fixed Modes and CommandsTerminals in fixed modes no longer block command input. Text outside the mode readouts won't persist, but this change makes it easier for additional players to maintain a crew role, such as engineering or weaponry.Scan Mode ImprovementsIf no scan has been performed, the terminal will explicitly state this rather than showing a blank…
- Multiplayer Beta Update - 2 June 2026
Attention Captains,Work continues on the terminal based multiplayer for Astra Protocol 2. We've fixed several major issues, cleaned up a few things, and added some new improvements, which you'll find in version 2.1.3.The game should no longer crash after a failed mission. This was due to the terminal not initialising correctly, and has now been resolved. You can now connect multiple terminals at once. There's no hard limit, though performance will depend on your machine. In theory, you should be able to run a full crew with each member using their own terminal. We've also added fixed modes for terminals. These effectively turn a terminal into a second text-based display. The following modes are implemented:Diagnostics - displays the 'DISPLAY DIAGNOSTICS'.Weaponry - shows the status of the lasers, missiles, shields, and related cargo.Target - shows the basic scan details of ship's current t…
- Multiplayer in Astra Protocol 2? - 14 May 2026
Attention Captains,This is not an erroneous transmission. The current beta, Astra Protocol 2 (v2.1.1), contains an early prototype of multiplayer functionality - though not the kind you may be expecting. We are experimenting with remote terminal support, allowing a second user to connect to the pilot's machine and issue commands through a terminal interface. The remote player has access to a slightly reduced command set, whilst the primary player retains full control. This opens the door to cooperative roles - perhaps one captain handles weapons whilst the other focuses on evasive manoeuvres? How It Works?A remote user connects to the host machine using a terminal. At present, the system uses telnet on port 23, which opens automatically when the game launches. Port configuration is not yet available but planned before a full release. For example, on Windows you can connect by entering:telne…
- Patch 2.1 Live - 13 February 2026
Attention Captains,Patch 2.1 of Astra Protocol 2 is now live. This patch brings in a mix of new features and improvements alongside the usual bug fixes. We've added some new exploration options and a few ways of dealing with some tricky situations. Here's all the changes:New FeaturesAchievementsWe've added eighteen brand new achievements to the game - some simple to obtain, others not so much.Speed LimiterNew option to limit the max speed when under the autopilot. Once the ship reaches the desired speed, the engines will stop providing thrust until required to slow down. Controlled via the SET LIMITER, ENABLE LIMITER, and DISABLE LIMITER commands.EMPsThe ship comes equipped with a small amount of EMP projectiles which explode either on impact or after a short period of time. If a ship or missile is caught in the explosion, systems may be temporarily deactivated and target locks lost. Con…
- Patch 2.1 Beta - Update 2026/02/06 - 6 February 2026
Attention Captains,We've updated the beta branch to v2.0.5.0. This build should contain all the new features and bug fixes for the v2.1 patch, it just needs further testing and refinement before we release the final version. Here is a summary of the changes in the beta since the last build:New FeaturesAutopilot LimiterYou can activate / deactivate a limiter to set a top speed. Once you reach this speed, the autopilot will stop providing forward thrust, but may still provide lateral or reverse thrust.ImprovementsResupplySpace stations can resupply fighters if you have any that have been destroyed and they have one in their inventory.Additionally, space stations can also hold a supply of EMPs for restocking.RepairSpace stations can repair a torpedo tube or fighter bay if they have one in their inventory. This is triggered by the usual command.Warp JumpThe warp jump is much more punishing o…
- Patch 2.1 Beta Update - 30 January 2026
Attention Captains,For those of you trying out the Astra Protocol 2 v2.1 beta, we've just uploaded a new build to it.We've still got a couple more features to implement, as well as all the tweaking and refinement.Key features of the update include:All achievements have been certified as collectable.Fighters, fighter bays, and torpedo tubes can be replaced when destroyed if the space station holds them - this is a resupply action rather than a repair action. The option to toggle 'Safe Havens' around space stations, meaning that enemy ships won't spawn if you are close to a space station - it won't stop them hunting you if they are already present however.Adjusted transmission logic, cleaning, and how it ties into the win condition for the story.Adjusted the crystalline entity spawn rate and reduced the number required for the related science mission.Fixed some crashes when using ship scal…
- Patch 2.1 Beta - 23 January 2026
Hi all,We're working on some new features for the v2.1 update and would appreciate some user feedback. As part of this work, we've also updated the executable to be 64-bit, so there might be some knock on compatibility issues, so user feedback is even more vital for us.To allow for this, we've updated the main 'beta' branch to the newest build, v2.0.3. We've not updated any of the documentation yet, but here's a summary of what's included:AchievementsWe've added in 18 player achievements. Most of these have already been checked as being achievable, but we have a couple that we're yet to confirm.EMPsYour ship will come equipped with a few EMP charges. You can specify how long they take to detonate, but will default to 5 seconds. Upon detonation, ships within range will lose their target lock and ship functionality, and missiles may explode. Only the player can launch these at the moment,…
- Proton Fix - 16 January 2026
Attention Captains,We've just pushed out a minor patch to Astra Protocol 2 that should fix the issue causing the game to crash for some Proton users.
- Three Year Anniversary Patch - 1 December 2025
Attention Captains,We are in a celebratory mood as Astra Protocol 2 has just turned three years old!To celebrate this occasion, we have brought a gift - a new patch! This patch makes some major changes to Astra Protocol 2 as we've brought in a new renderer and framework (those eagle eyed of you might recognise it as the one we've implemented on the Astra Protocol Remake). These changes mean that we can implement visuals that look more like the CRT monitor effect we intended for the original release of the game, allows us to implement some fancy effects, such as distortion from radiation, and run the game at a much smoother speed. But don't just take our word for it, take a look at this trailer we made for the occasion:A new renderer and framework aren't the only changes however, we've improved collisions, refreshed the user manual, and a whole host of other bits and pieces. Here's the full…
- Experimental Beta - v1.8.2.0 - 10 October 2025
Ahoy Captains,We've just uploaded a new build to the beta branch. This update makes a small tweak to how the logging works (which should be invisible to the users) and adds a new experimental feature: Telemetry.Telemetry outputs data for your ship and discovered planets. Users can specify how often the data is outputted and where it sent - so those of you with a dot matrix setup could even output to a printer! This is separate from regular logging, so you send data to different locations simultaneously. The intention behind this feature is to give players more ways to interact with Astra Protocol 2. Its fairly experimental, which is why it is in the experimental branch for now. We’d love to hear your feedback! Let us know if you find this functionality useful, if there’s anything else you’d like to see added to the telemetry system, and especially how you’re using it — your input will hel…
- Patch 1.8.1 Live - 12 September 2025
Ahoy Captains,Patch 1.8.1 is now live! This patch is a relatively small one which focuses mainly on bug fixes:ImprovementsMaintenance craft slow down sooner, which should limit how often they crash into space stations.Bug FixesFixed issue where player could immediately spawn within a planet.Fixed issue where bad characters in the Captain's Log would crash the game on load. The cursor character no longer gets stored in the Captain's Log (partially responsible for the above crash).Fixed an issue with meshes not displaying properly. We hope that fixing these issues improve your experiences with Astra Protocol 2.As usual, if you have any comments, feedback, or suggestions, please let us know.
- Gamepad Controls Beta - 19 November 2024
Attention Captains, We have uploaded a new beta branch that focuses on controlling Astra Protocol 2 using a gamepad. Whilst Astra Protocol 2 controls best via a keyboard, there are some circumstances where it might not be practical, or possible to use one. This beta intends to get the proposed control system into users' hands so they can help us work out if it is a control system worth pursuing. If all goes well, there's the possibility that it could open the door to a Steam Deck build. If you're still interested, read on. Having a game designed around inputting commands meant that it was a challenge to come up with a system that supported a limited form of input like a gamepad. There is the possibility of an on-screen keyboard, but navigating that with a controller can be clunky in real time, and pausing the game each time the keyboard was required wouldn't lead to a very slick system.…
- Patch 1.7 Live! - 17 October 2024
Ahoy Captains, Patch 1.7 is now live! This patch was influenced by feedback from the Astra Protocol 2 community, and includes additional player information, and more options to control the players’ experience. This patch brings a mix of new features, improvements, and bug fixes: New Features DISABLE ALL command to cut power to all systems in a pinch ALIAS command to allow for user remapping of commands Ability to save and load ALIAS mappings CONTINUE command as a variant to the UNPAUSE command New Configuration Options Ability to select feature sets of what game content does and doesn’t appear Can remap the SECOND SCREEN and EXTERNAL LOG keys Option to save EXTERNAL LOG to disk rather than sending to a printer Improvements Bearing towards locked on object shown in SCIENCE and ORDNANCE modules Current LASER mode shown in ORDNANCE module Current FIGHTER mode shown in OPERATIONS module Bug…
- Upcoming Patch 1.7 - 12 October 2024
Attention Captains, The upcoming v1.7 patch is currently available in the beta branch. This patch is mainly focusing on some quality of life improvements based on user feedback, featuring new commands, information, and configuration options. Its a relatively small patch compared to some of our other patches, so it may not be too long until it goes live. As usual, please feel free to leave comments here or in the Community Feedback thread - https://steamcommunity.com/app/2026750/discussions/0/5789982181540189847/ Watch this space for further updates
- Patch 1.6.1.0 - 18 August 2024
Attention Captains, Patch 1.6.1.0 is now live. This patch focuses on improving the rendering times and bugfixes. The changes are as follows: If not running in a window, the game will ask the user on launch whether they want to run in 800x600 mode. This lowers the resolution of the screen that the game is running on to fix issues when running at higher resolutions. Closing the game will return the resolution to normal. Planet type (terrestrial / gas giant) added to scientific readouts for planets. Fixed minor graphical issue with render modes 1 and 3 where the CRT shutdown effect didn't render properly. Shield mites can no longer be targeted by the lasers when out of range. Fixed issue where enemy ship shields could be set to NaN making them indestructible. Fighters will only target ships near the player and not fly off if the nearest target is too far away. Launching fighters when none…
- Patch 1.6 Live - 12 July 2024
Attention Captains, The Patch 1.6 for Astra Protocol 2 is now live! Star-fighters have been overhauled and new features have been programmed into the terminal. This patch brings a mix of new features, improvements, and bug fixes: New Features Overhauled fighters Battleships and destroyers launch fighters Hardcore mode - type a syntax error and the ship explodes Ships can drop chaff Pause / unpause command New Configuration Options Toggle to view assists which provide extra information to aid the player Toggle to remove the radiation jitter Toggle to automatically stabilise the ship if engines / thrusters / rudder set to zero Three different render modes for potentially improved rendering speeds Improvements AI follow behaviour matches that of the autopilot Bug Fixes Fixed crash when loading some space-time anomalies Fixed issue where distress beacon would always spawn at maximum range F…
- Upcoming Patch 1.6 - 16 June 2024
Attention Captains, Work has begun on the v1.6 patch for Astra Protocol 2. Alongside a few bug fixes and improvements, there will be some new features added. The biggest update in this patch however is that we're looking at overhauling the fighters. Fighters will now be distinct from ships, allowing a separation of their logic and behaviour, allowing them to be much more reliable in their usage. Additionally, enemies will react to fighters, which may be targeting them with their lasers, firing on them with their missiles, or even launching fighters of their own. For those of you who are interested in seeing how they work and behave, we've updated the Beta branch accordingly. There's still a load of tweaks to do to them, but already they work much better - jump on the Beta branch and try them out for yourself. As usual, please feel free to leave comments here or in the Community Feedback…
- Minor Patch 1.5.1 - 30 April 2024
Attention Captains, Minor Patch 1.5.1 has been released for Astra Protocol 2. This patch enables music to be played in game, set up using the config screen. Whilst intended for use with the upcoming Audio Pack DLC, it can be adjusted to play your own music. We're planning to have the free Audio Pack DLC release in the next few days. There was also a fix regarding a missing transmission for a science mission.
- Audio Pack DLC and Soundtrack - 24 April 2024
Attention Captains, Just to let you know that we have two sets of downloadable content planning to be launched in a week or two (pending the approvals process) - an Audio Pack DLC and game soundtrack. The Audio Pack DLC is a collection of six ambient tracks that have been created to play in the background whilst playing Astra Protocol 2, and will tie in with the upcoming v1.5.1.0 minor patch. This patch will simply allow users to turn on music and select a directory for it to play from. We'll be launching this music free of charge, but as a DLC rather than as a patch due to its size and that some players may prefer to play without a soundtrack. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2947680/Astra_Protocol_2__Audio_Pack Additionally, we'll be making the tracks available for purchase separately, featuring the addition of the track used in the game's trailer. https://store.steampowered.com/app…
