  • Embracer close Volition, developer of Red Faction and Saints Row - 31 August 2023

Embracer Group have announced that they're closing down Volition, the Illinois, US-based developer best known today for Saints Row and Red Faction. The announcement - which coincided with the predictably uproarious lifting of Starfield's review embargo, though I'm sure the timing is purely accidental - comes as part of broader restructuring at Embracer Group following a multiple-year acquisition spree, which Alice0 reported on in June . • Do You Want To Own The Saints Row Series? Or Just Buy Red Faction? Bids For Parts of THQ Must Be In By January 22. - 8 January 2013

THQ, the troubled publisher of Saints Row, WWE games, Company of Heroes , Metro: Last Light , the new South Park role-playing game, Red Faction and more, may still be sold in its entirety to an investment group called Clearlake as part of a bankruptcy sale, according to a court ruling. But other interested parties may also bid on pieces of the company, which is why word has been making the rounds that Warner Brothers and possibly EA as well as other parties of interest might want to pick off some of THQ's franchises. All bids for THQ's stuff must be in by 9am ET on January 22, THQ reported this morning in an update regarding the bankruptcy court proceedings. There will be a hearing on the sale the day after. • Red Faction's Art Is Now Buried Beneath the Dust - 28 July 2011

Despite the guilty pleasures of Red Faction: Guerilla , all it took was one sub-par game in the series ( Red Faction: Armageddon ) for publisher THQ to, at least temporarily, pull the plug on the series . Which is a damn shame. In memory of a franchise (or at least its contemporary revival) that lived too fast and died too young, then, here's a collection of top-shelf concept art from the pariah itself, Red Faction: Armageddon . These character concepts and environment pieces were done by Massive Black , a creative studio based in San Francisco that not only breathes life into the world of video games but that of major motion pictures as well. To see the larger pics in all their glory, either click the "expand" icon on the gallery screen or right click and "open link in new tab". Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists. • THQ abandons Red Faction franchise - 27 July 2011

THQ has pulled the plug on its Red Faction franchise following poor sales of RF: Armageddon. Speaking at an investor call today, CEO Brian Farrell confirmed that "we do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way." He added that the development team at Volition has been moved onto Guillermo del Toro's inSane survival horror project. The series began back in 2001 as an FPS on PC and PlayStation 2, with a formal sequel following on a year later. Red Faction: Guerrilla switched to a third person perspective in 2009, picking up a sturdy 7/10 from Eurogamer. Red Faction: Armageddon, released last month, matched that score but, as revealed earlier today, failed to do the business at retail .

  • Adios, Red Faction - 27 July 2011

Poor sales of Red Faction: Armageddon this year means the end of the franchise, publisher THQ said in a conference call today. Brian Farrell, the THQ chief executive, told investors that "we do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way." Volition, the studio developing the series, has now been reassigned to Guillermo del Toro's inSane game project, a survival horror game. • Here's How To Get That Rainbow-Shitting Unicorn in Red Faction: Armageddon - 3 May 2011

Remember when we told you that Mr. Toots, a wee unicorn with a powerful, rainbow-spraying ass , would come to Red Faction: Armageddon ? Well, here's your official confirmation from THQ who also reveals how we'll get our hands on Mr. Toots incredibly destructive rectum. It's going to take a million downloads of the game's demo, according to the video released by THQ today. The demo for Red Faction: Armageddon was released today on Xbox Live and is supposed to come to the PlayStation Network whenever Sony's online service returns from its slumber. Given PS3's owners inability to grab said demo right now, Armageddon will have an uphill battle making it to a million. (There's no PC demo, sadly.) Might want to tell your friends if you want to unicorn fart things to death. Red Faction: Armageddon hits the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on June 7 in North America, June 10 internationally.

  • Red Faction: Origins Trailer Transports Us to Made-For-TV Mars - 2 May 2011

THQ and SyFy have teamed up to produce Red Faction: Origins , a made for television movie that spans the time period between 2009's Red Faction: Guerrilla and 2011's Red Faction: Armageddon . No longer do you have to settle for simple stills of this Red Faction origin story, as THQ released the trailer for the June-due Origins today. Here's the plot, if it's hard to gather from the above video. Jake Mason (Brian J. Smith), Alec's last surviving son and an officer in the Red Faction Militia, has his world turned inside out when he discovers that now, 12 years after her kidnapping, his sister is still alive. As a powerful new enemy swarms across the planet, Jake goes out to find her, only to learn that his lost sister is one of them...a cold-blooded soldier sworn to destroy the Red Faction. Jake must now battle the relentless regime and somehow reunite a family torn apart by war. Furtherm…

  • Ten Years of Red Faction Coalesce in Armageddon - 2 May 2011

Ten years ago the original Red Faction gave PlayStation 2, PC, and Mac gamers their first taste of the future of humanity on Mars. Developer Volition explains how the three games before led up to next month's Red Faction: Armageddon . We've come a long way since Red Faction came out back in 2001, haven't we? Back then the PlayStation 2 version of the game was either the bee's knees or the shit, depending on your praise of choice. Nowadays the original doesn't hold up quite as well, but playing through it does convey a strong feeling of how we've gotten from the fledgling franchise of a decade ago to what we're getting next month. Red Faction: Armageddon hits the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on June 7.

  • Get A Taste of Red Faction Armageddon On May 3 - 26 April 2011

Get your ass to a limited portion of Mars with the Red Faction Armageddon demo, currently slated to come to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on May 3. Sorry, PC gamers, but there won't be a demo for you.

  • Get A Look At The Red Faction Movie In These Production Photos - 25 April 2011

Syfy's live-action take on the Red Faction universe, Origins, will make its debut on June 4 . If you were wondering what the thing looks like, well, wonder no more. It's hard to make out what's going on, other than the fact there are people on Mars and some of them are wearing clothes that are just bound to need cleaning twice a day. One thing you can clearly make out, though, is that this film stars Robert Patrick. Otherwise known as the T -"Have You Seen This Boy" 1000.

  • The Complete History Of An Under-Appreciated Games Developer - 1 April 2011

You may know Volition as the developers behind the Saints Row and Red Faction games. But its history is actually a lot longer, and more illustrious, than that. A film crew from Game Informer has, during the course of some studio visits, got a little sidetracked and catalogued the entire history of the developer, from the present-day hits all the way back to titles like Descent (when it was still known as Parallax Software) and Freespace, names which still give PC gamers a case of the tingles. Your mileage on these will vary depending on how much love you have for each series, but if you're like me and have enjoyed most of the stuff that's come out of Volition over the years, they're a great watch. You can see them at the link below. The Secret History of Volition

  • Red Faction SyFi Movie Releasing May, Not March - 4 December 2010

The Red Faction movie to air on SyFi will begin shooting in January and air in May, concurrent with the release of Red Faction: Armageddon, says the publisher. THQ's Danny Bilson, the company's president for core games publishing spread the word over his Twitter account . The one-shot TV movie, originally scheduled to air in March, could end up as the basis for a future series. Red Faction:Origins film to be released in May instead of March

  • Three Weapons That (Sadly) Aren't In Red Faction: Battlegrounds - 19 September 2010

Well, not too much more beyond what was featured in the downloadable game's debut trailer . Red Faction: Battlegrounds is a frantic, competitive arcade action game, a top-down perspective take on Twisted Metal-style car combat. Vehicles, mechs, tanks and weapons lifted from the Red Faction franchise will make an appearance in the game, like the mini-black hole spawning singularity gun. But some Red Faction standbys—and some of the series' not so common weapons—won't be making an appearance in Battlegrounds. Here's a quick rundown of what won't be available in the game's arsenal. Believe me, I asked. 1. Cars with hammers attached to them 2. A gun that shoots hammers 3. A giant ostrich mech Fortunately, the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network game doesn't appear to suffer for those absences. The hands-off demo we saw at TGS looked like a fun arcade experience, one on par…

  • Guillermo Del Toro Working With Red Faction Developers? - 19 August 2010

Guillermo Del Toro, the man behind movies like Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone, has said he wants to make video games . Could he be making them with THQ? That's the impression you get reading an interview over on Eurogamer with THQ's Danny Bilson, where he says: We're not announcing anything but I can tell you Guillermo del Toro and I are very close friends. He lives about two miles from our office. I'm not confirming anything, but we have a lot of shared vision. We both spent a lot of time in the film business. Now my PR person is about to smack me upside the head. If we were to do a game with Guillermo and Volition, I would really support that in a big way, personally. But we're not announcing anything yet. I'm not telling you what type of game it is or anything like that, if we were to do something. But I can tell you... . ...But he and I are good friends. We get al…

  • Your First Look At Red Faction: Battlegrounds - 16 August 2010

The first downloadable Red Faction game was officially named and detailed earlier today, but publisher THQ is making its latest game announcement officially official with new Red Faction: Battlegrounds media. The Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network game is coming in 2011, courtesy of developer THQ Digital Studios UK and Volition. Four players can go head to head in vehicular based Martian combat, pitting tanks versus mechs versus "fast-attack vehicles" in a handful of game modes. The requisite Red Faction demolition is also included at no additional charge. Red Faction: Battlegrounds will be playable at Gamescom 2010 this week, so we'll let you know what we think soon enough.

Price History Overview

USD uses SteamPulse's own locally recorded daily store snapshots, so this overview reflects the exact regional price history that SteamPulse has captured for this currency.

Coverage And Tracking Window

  • Snapshots: 1
  • Coverage: Oct 8, 2026 to Oct 8, 2026
  • Lowest observed: $1.99
  • Highest observed: $1.99

Red Faction's USD price history spans from Oct 8, 2026 to Oct 8, 2026, with 1 recorded snapshot across 1 calendar day. Each row records the available final price, listed base price, and discount metadata for that observation. Within this coverage the lowest recorded price is $1.99, the highest is $1.99, and the first visible tracked price is $1.99. These comparisons apply only to the snapshots SteamPulse holds; missing observations can contain changes that are not represented here.

For USD, SteamPulse uses locally captured regional storefront snapshots and does not reconstruct older prices with exchange-rate conversion. The chart and table show the values recorded for this exact currency from the stated coverage start. Additional snapshots extend that record, but they do not fill unobserved days or prove what the storefront displayed between observations.

Discount Windows And Sale Timing

  • Discount windows: 1
  • Discounted days: 1 day
  • Deepest markdown: -80%
  • Latest sale window: Oct 8, 2026 to Oct 8, 2026

SteamPulse has grouped rows carrying discount metadata into 1 recorded discount window, covering 1 calendar day and 1 discounted snapshot. The deepest recorded markdown is -80%, with a lowest recorded final price of $1.99 during rows named Steam sale. The latest recorded window starts Oct 8, 2026 and ends Oct 8, 2026, spanning 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking. Window boundaries follow the available snapshots, so gaps in coverage can make an actual sale shorter or longer than the recorded span.

Recorded sale names include Steam sale. The table reports the observed markdown, final price, snapshot dates, and any sale name supplied with the row. It can show whether similar discounts recur in the retained record, but it does not infer publisher intent, demand, or the reason a price changed.

Observed Price Changes And Stable Runs

  • Observed price drops: 0
  • Observed price rises: 0
  • Longest stable run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking
  • Current run: 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking

Outside rows carrying discount metadata, the tracked price has not recorded a separate price rise or drop yet. That means the observed undiscounted level has stayed stable across the snapshots SteamPulse currently holds. This is a statement about the recorded coverage only; it does not prove that an older or missing price change never happened.

The longest unchanged price stretch in the current record lasts 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking at $1.99, from Oct 8, 2026 through Oct 8, 2026. The latest run records $1.99 for 1 day of uninterrupted daily tracking with a listed discount from $9.99. Run lengths describe consecutive stored observations only and do not establish that a price is permanent.

Latest Snapshot And Sales Context

  • Current price: $1.99
  • Current list price: $9.99
  • Distinct observed prices: 1
  • Source mode: SteamPulse local tracking

The latest tracked snapshot records Red Faction at $1.99 in USD, with a listed base price of $9.99 and a -80% markdown. Across the available history SteamPulse has recorded 1 distinct final price in this currency. This supports comparisons with the lowest, highest, and most common values present in the retained record, subject to the stated coverage limits.

The live sales view and Steam sales record provide calendar context for these dates. A date overlap can be compared with a named Steam event, but it does not prove why a publisher changed a price. As new daily rows arrive, this overview recalculates its observed prices, discount windows, and run lengths automatically.
