Latest Steam announcements
- It was fun using Unity - 9 October 2023
MidnightKing is made with Unity, I've learned and worked on this game for the past 2 years. It was fun but I had to stop since there was a lot of spaghetti code and no overall substance in the game. I do not expect this game to do good commercially, it represents my persistence to continue learning even if the first scripts I made were 2 years old. I learned a lot, but since the controversy with Unity, I decided I needed to switch to Godot. Even if the decision is reverted, I've afraid for their future decisions. I'll release my game after SteamFest and continue making games on itch.io for a while. Thanks for all the support.
- SteamFest Is Almost Here - 25 September 2023
Since my last announcement I've learned Godot and stopped using Unity (for reasons) and I've made another game during the GBJam11 on itch.io. I'm really enjoying the engine and I hope that I can make my next game great. A lot happened for the last 2 years of my life and MidnightKing didn't turn out like I thought it would. But that's okay, I learned a lot and it was in no way a waste. This is my first commercial game so I don't expect it to do well. I'm not going to stop making games because of some obstacles or inconveniences, those are proof that I'm progressing and to keep pushing. It's been a journey but I'll release it for all this see this piece of shit.
- An Announcement After A Week - 11 August 2023
So I completed the introduction to the game, I'm working on adding more enemies and finally adding the improved mechanics for the boss. I may be able to get the second area done (no promises). At the end of August I will push a live update of the game.
- I Got Up From My Bed - 4 August 2023
I further worked on the beginning to tell the player who Jesse is and what happened all those centuries ago. I still need to make some more art and add more scenes but it's progressing pretty smoothly. As long as I stay on track I should be able to get a good demo out when Steam Fest starts.
- No Work Done Today - 2 August 2023
Sorry, no work done today. Been playing BattleBit.
- Further Work - 1 August 2023
I've worked on the beginning scene of the story. It explains why you're trying to find this Jesse kid, and what happened to him. I've made art and I've been trying to figure out how to make cutscenes. I don't want to spoil the story so no pictures.
- Art for Brigit and new creatures called the Wilds. - 30 July 2023
Some art that I worked on. The 2nd phase of Brigit. Some creatures called the Wilds, they are one of the many things the elves left behind. Body of bush, legs of oak; their legs stretch when frightened to try and imitate a tree.
- The Small Step Toward Changing The Spells - 28 July 2023
I didn't do much today, I only changed the look for one of the spells and did more planning for future changes. The sigil spins but I can't add videos in announcements, so you'll have to take my word for it.
- Meow? - 27 July 2023
I worked on better explaining the controls of spells and weapons. I also made the combat more smooth to transition into and not push every mechanic onto the player all at once. I also redrew the cat companion so it doesn't look so creepy. (I kept the thiccc chubby wubby part) I'm still working on redoing the visuals of the spells and reworking some, but I had life responsibilities to take care of.
- Preparing For Steam Fest - 26 July 2023
2 months before Steam Fest starts. Drawing, programming, and composing music. I hope I can get my demo in order by that time. I received lots of feedback and I hope to get more when Steam Fest starts. I want to let you all know that I will be posting a daily devlog until October. It will either be something small like some artwork or something more like a new or altered feature. If I miss a day I will post 2 devlogs the following day. So, I hope you look forward to daily posts about my progress. Now that's out of the way, I want to redesign the first boss since I didn't like how it looked. I'm no artist, I rather consider myself "The Programmer", but I wanted to make it look more slender and look a bit more arrogant. Her same is Brigit, "The Flame of Gaia" (I know, I'm very clever). This is one of the many changes that I have listed for changes. Keep flying high.
- Continued Development of MidnightKing - 2 May 2023
Over the past couple months, I've been redesigning the whole of the game because I realized it was kind of a mess. I've been studying music theory and overall game design so I could make the best possible experience for the players. This was my first game and I was too ambitious, I wanted to make the combat experience that I wanted but I still need to make the music and overall aesthetic to MidnightKing. I'm currently working on a trailer showcasing a little of everything I've done, I just picked up video editing so that should make things easier. Hope you will continue supporting me, it's been a journey to get to this point.
- Where'd I go - 25 February 2023
Hey, I know it's been a while since I last updated the demo, I'm very sorry for that. I've been trying to get all my classes done early so I can have more time to work on my game. I've been designing new things in the mean time for bosses and new areas. I'm learning about sound design and music while I'm in class so I can provide the best experience for everyone. Again, I'm sorry for the delay but things take priority so I can continue working in game development. Thank you for all the feedback you gave me, I need constructive hard criticism or I won't know how I could make my game better.
- Working on Demo - 8 December 2022
I don't want to spoil too much, but I aim for a lot of exploration and combat. Nothing big or spectacular though. Please be patient
