  • Optimization Update For Lower-Tier GPUs! - 2 May 2026

Hey everyone still lurking round here! I'm still slaving away on Chapter 2 but decided to release a small optimization patch in the meantime for lower-tier GPUs! I realized during my performance profiling that a lot of the game is GPU bound due to Nanite, Virtual Shadow Maps, and Lumen GI. Also, the low preset and medium preset in the previous build are nearly identical in terms of performance which is unacceptable from an optimization perspective. The updated Low Quality Preset disables Lumen GI and switches the Global Illumination to Screen Space instead. Both the Medium and Low Quality Presets disable Nanite + Virtual Shadow Maps and switches to the traditional system of LODs. High, Ultra, etc. still utilize Nanite. I regenerated and configured LODs for 90% of the static meshes in the game and also reduced triangle count on a lot of oversaturated meshes to get a nice balance between…

  • Combat Overhaul Update! - 23 October 2025

Hey all y'all goofy goobers straight chillin around these parts of steam! I just released a huge combat overhaul update for Sophonce! You can check out a gameplay video here:This update encompasses all your feedback and suggestions and I am eternally grateful for all the constructive feedback! These are some of the major things I added:Crouch SlideGrenade Ammo Indicator added at the bottom right next to the ammo counterYou now have access to all powers that you can select with a Power Wheel. You can still switch between your previous power and your current power by tapping the "Cycle Powers" button.Aim down sights (only the sniper and rocket launcher that you will get in chapter 2 will have the zoom effect because they use scopes)Removed the advanced weapons and balanced all the weapons accordinglyChanged the system to true first person (minus seeing your own legs) to make the camera a…

  • Early Access Info for Next Month's Release! - 16 July 2025

Hey all y'all cool cats patiently waiting for the EA release! Sophonce (Version 0.310) is releasing next month on August 19th! There are a lot of updates and improvements to the game that have been made thanks to the community. I couldn't have been more grateful to you all for all the support and constructive criticism you have given me and I hope the improvements shown in Sophonce reflect my gratitude. The EA version will be released with just the Prologue and Chapter 1. This should take you around an hour or longer to complete depending on your skill level! You could always go back and replay the game with different choices to see different dialogue outcomes. The weight of your choices will become apparent in the later chapters though! The price will be 3.99 USD for the initial release and will increase as more content is added. There is around 1/3 of the content present in the EA ver…

  • Next Fest June 2024 - 26 May 2024

Hey y'all! The Sophonce Demo (Version 0.102) is back today for round two a little before Next Fest for the Press Preview and also to give everyone enough time to check out the demo. It will be live until June 18th so grab it while you can! I polished and made some optimizations / bug fixes that should make your experience with the demo a lot more pleasant. I decreased the size of the demo to around 13 GB as well. Some things to note: If you don't have a native 16:9 monitor you'll have to play windowed or fullscreen with black bars. Only 16:9 resolutions are officially supported now but for the EA release I should have 21:9 and 16:10 resolution support. This game requires an SSD (even an external one will work great), as an HDD causes some pretty hefty load stuttering. The game was designed with mouse + keyboard in mind so I would highly recommend you play using that combo. Controller me…

  • Sophonce - FPS FEST DEMO - 15 April 2024

Hey everyone lurking around the backrooms of Steam! Sophonce is participating in FPS Fest and will have a demo available to the public sometime in the next hour! This demo (version 0.10) is the demo for the early access release so its essentially a very early build of the game so expect to encounter some bugs but it will be greatly appreciated if you could report them to me! I tried my best to break the game so I can find some bugs that I could fix but there is so much only one man can break haha. The demo is only around 15 minutes long and takes place at the start of chapter 2. It doesn't include anything that could potentially spoil the story so don't worry at all! This demo's main focus is to showcase a snippet of the combat and the overall feel of the game. This demo will be deactivated at the end of FPS fest and reactivated at Steam Next Fest in June with the bug fixes that were fo…
