• Bug fixes and Nightmarish changes... - 5 August 2026

  Todays patch addresses a minor oversight in the previous one where the game would not save which CRT filter you had chosen and always defaulted to the curved one, as well as some more rebalancing and bug fixes. • The big bad brain ain't so tough anymore - 28 July 2026

  Todays patch addresses some of the complaints about the difficulty of a particular early game boss, "The Brain", as well as difficulty across the game with some minor re-balancing. Full patch notes are below: Brain re-balanced. 2nd phase telegraphs attack pattern better, 4th phase shoots slightly slower. Fixed major bug where player bullets would occasionally phase through enemies and bosses Extra life and "Bonus" award a shield as well in all game modes. This allows shields to be earned in Story Mode. High score Name Input now remembers your initials Wiped down CRT, it was looking blurry. Found flat panel CRT in the back and installed it as well. Fixed issue with Japanese translation using "song written year" value as "song name". The game is still NOT translated! But it at least will show the English song name now.

  Some of you may have noticed that trying to check the high scores crashed the game! That has now been fixed, sorry to everyone that was affected. Unfortunately in the meantime the online leaderboards seem to be down, we're looking in to it and that will be fixed soon. Once again, thank you to everyone who is playing on day one!

• Release Date and Platforms Announcement! - 20 June 2026

  After 6 long years of work, Viral Reload EX has been finished. Starting from a small prototype made in 2020 while we were all stuck inside and going crazy, it has evolved into the biggest project I (the programmer/pixel artist) have ever taken on. The final game contains 9 levels, 9 bosses, 19 cutscenes (plus an intro cutscene/animation), an Arcade Mode, Story Mode and Boss Rush Mode, as well as some fun stuff to unlock in the Rec Room. Before I announce the release date, I wanted to take a moment to reflect a bit on the development of the game, and to thank the people who helped make it a reality.I could not have made a game at this scale without the help of everyone else who has been working on it with me.
